"How about Jason Todd vs. Reader, and Reader is a healer? Something fluffy, like the reader, always worrying about Jason after patrol when he comes back injured. :)"
Jason Todd x Healer Reader
Hi! This is my first fic so I'm still getting used to writing and posting but hopefully you like it! Please let me know if you like it/don't like it and anything I can do to improve or that you want to see!
Warnings: Fluff, references to injury, no use of y/n
a/n: I was contemplating doing this scenario with some of the other bat boys but it got a bit longer than I thought. Lmk if you'd like that!
You lay on the stained sofa in your and Jason's crappy apartment, watching some brain numbing TV show in hopes of curing your boredom whilst you wait for him (which it inevitably didn't).
Jason had moved out the Manor because he "needed his own space", away from Bruce, away from the heroes; he needed a space where he could just be Jason, no expectations. A few months after you two started seeing eachother you moved in, and although the apartment was cramped and in a permanent state of "I'll fix that later", it still managed to feel so homely and comforting to you. Maybe that was just Jason's presence though.
As the mumbled voices from the TV drone on there's a creak followed by a soft click from the hallway. Your heart rate spikes but it only lasts a moment when you realise he's home. Living in Gotham meant being in a constant state of alertness, something Jason had engraved into you since you moved in. It could be dangerous, especially when he was out in patrol and he always wanted to ensure you could look out for yourself if anything happened.
Thump of boots on the hardwood floors and the soft padding of footsteps towards the living room brought you out of your thoughts and straight back to who had just walked through your door, anxiety rising in your chest despite seeing the man you loved instead of a fictional intruder.
Jason was holding his helmet under his arm, his hair fluffed up and shaggy with that bright white patch making his green eyes even more striking as they looked down at you. He mumbled a small hi and leaned over the back of the sofa to kiss your forehead before trudging off to the kitchen and swinging open the fridge door.
Your face twists in concern as you watch his posture - the way he slumps against the frame of the fridge, how his left shoulder hunches, the dark mark on the back of his suit. You swiftly move around the sofa and up to him, just behind where the fridge door is left open whilst Jason searches the contents, contemplating whether to risk the pizza that has definitely been sat there for far too long.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt? What happened Jay? Did something-"
You bombard him with rushed, anxious questions, something he had become familiar with after so many late nights back from patrol.
"I'm fine baby" Jason cuts you off, a soft, weary chuckle escaping his tired lips as his hands come to rest on your cheeks
"Just a few cuts, it's fine, don't worry about me."
Your concerned frown only deepens as he shrugs off your worries and your own hands move up to hold onto his forearms. You knew from the way he walked in that something had happened, and you hated when he brushed it off like that - you knew it was an attempt to make you feel better but it never did.
"Jay you're limping.." You sigh, your voice heavy with worry as your lips turn downwards.
"And clearly your shoulder's messed up"
"It's fi-" He tries to argue but you cut him off with a small glare. "... okay, fine, I'm a little hurt. But it's nothing I can't handle, you don't need to worry sweetheart"
That's all you need to hear before your holding onto his shoulders and maneuvering Jason over to the sofa. He doesn't even try to fight it, knowing there's no use. You sit him down and sink to your knees in front of him, reaching under the peeling sofa for where you keep a first aid kit, exactly for these types of moments. He gently starts unzipping and removing his suit, a habit formed from so many of these late nights where you patch him up - he's entirely familiar with the ritual now.
Once undressed your able to scan his injuries; they're more severe than he implied but far better than some you've had to address before - a long but shallow cut on his back, a small gash on his shin, a large bruise blooming on his shoulder. The sight makes your heart twist in your chest painfully, you truly hated seeing Jason so injured all the time, it tore you apart but you had come to terms with the fact that the cuts and bruises were all part of the man you loved, so now you focused less on how much it hurt and more on patching him up.
As you work, so familiar with this practice by now, Jason stares at your face with lovesick eyes. He truly adored you so much and whilst he hated worrying you like this, he loved watching you so attentive and concentrated, taking care of him like no one else ever had. One of his hands comes down to play with your hair lazily, a goofy smile spreading across his lips. As you glance up you catch his eye and feel your cheeks flush, a smirk tugging at your lips.
"Nothing.. you're just so beautiful"
Your cheeks flush pink and you roll you eyes but can't help the smile taking over your face.
"Shut up" You giggle and he gently tugs a strand of you hair with a soft chuckle, exhaling and closing his eyes momentarily from exhaustion and contentment.
"You're so good to me doll" He whispers, making your heart flutter and your smile soften.
"I'm just being a good girlfriend" You mumble in response.
"Mmm.." Jason hums in agreement, eyes still closed as you gently bandage up his wounds.
After you clean and bandage him up he pulls you up onto the sofa and wraps his arms around you, burying his face in your neck, his limbs heavy against yours. His warm breath tickles your neck and your hand moves to gently comb through his dark waves, allowing yourself to relax fully for the first time since he left.
"I'm sorry I worry you baby."
You hear him mumble against your skin, a small breath escaping your lips.
"It's not your fault, I just hate seeing you hurt like that. It worries me"
"I know" He hums, nuzzling further into you, not really knowing how else to comfort you and your anxiety.
Eventually you end up lay on the sofa, cuddling eachother closely so neither of you fall off but you're not complaining. You pick up on the slight change in Jason's breathing, signalling that he's likely exhausted and about to fall asleep.
"Shall we go to bed hun?" You hum softly, massaging his scalp with your finger tips. He just shakes his head and presses even closer to you, clearly too tired to entertain the thought of moving, even if it is just to bed. You let out a small sigh that quickly turns into a yawn and realise you can't really be bothered to get up either so you settle against him and close your eyes.
The final thing you hear is Jason's sleepy voice whispering "I love you so much" before you're both fully blanketed by sleep, all worries soothed now you're back in his arms.
