Lord of Decay, Wielder of Baleful Dreadfire, The Dark Psion, Servant of Thay, The Lich King... Vader is known by many names and many songs, all of them deserved. He is a cautionary tale on the dangers of meddling with Red Wizards, the pursuit of dark necromancy, and how vengeance requires that you must dig two graves.
Driven by power and haunted by visions of his wife's death in childbirth, the young sorcerer sought the council of his long time friend, a kindly wizard elder. Hearing of his plight, he promised to teach him forbidden magic. Unbeknownst to Vader for years, this kindly old man was a Red Wizard of Thay exiled by Szass Tam who sought to wield the aasimar in a Thayan Resurrection against the lich ruler.
Darkness consumed Vader, pledging himself to Thayan dark arts in the pursuit of power, and in so doing so, estranged his dear wife. She pleaded with him to return to her, to leave Faerûn with her and leave his past behind him, to raise their children together in the far corners of Toril where nobody could hurt them. Vader refused.
The rest, as they say, is history. Vader's undead armies slaughtered indiscriminately, adding endlessly to their ranks as they swept across Faerûn. It was only with the combined efforts of Selûne's chosen, Aylin, and The Earthmother Chauntea that the Lord of Decay was sealed away in his frozen, fetid kingdom under magical lock and key for near 100 years.
That was until Aylin mysteriously disappeared...
