There sat a small basket of freshly baked cookies and slices of cake. It smelt like a piece of heaven.

He finishes reading the little note with his fingers, snickering to himself and putting the note in his pocket before grabbing the basket, placing it on top of his desk. The intense and delicious scent coming out of it tempted him far too much, uncovering the basket and stealing a cookie, pulling his phone out of his pocket and asking the phone to call Sienna, a smile on his face from how good the cookie was.

Sienna was chopping up ingredients for her stew. She hums a bit as she picked up, "Sienna speaking." She didn't check who called her. Simply distracted with her task.

“Hey, Sienna.” He puts the phone to his ear, resting both of his legs on his desk. “It’s Matt. Just wanted to hear your voice.” Matt snorts, shaking his head at what he just said. “And give you my thanks for the basket you left. You sure I have to share?”

Sienna clicks her tongue at how cheesy he sounded. A small blush crept to her face. "Hiya Matt... That's cute actually. And well, it's an option. You don't have to share I suppose."

She tossed in her vegetables as she began to saute the mix.

“Don’t click your tongue at me.” He scoffs, trying to brush off his cheesiness as if nothing happened, but a subtle blush appeared on his face from the embarrassment. “Nah, just kidding. I’ll definitely share some of this with Foggy. Anyway, uh, are you busy later tonight?” He could hear the noise of the cooking coming through the phone, feeling somewhat afraid that she’d turn him down tonight.

Zoë booped him, then snickered as if she pulled the most elaborate stunt.

May I ask where your parents are, dear? You shouldn’t be around here alone.

She groaned. This again? Everyone treated her like some toddler.

“‘M close enough t’ bein’ an adult. I don’ need deir protection 24/7. I can protect myself.”

“Close enough, but not yet.” Matt lets out a soft chuckle, holding the top of his cane with his two hands, tilting his head. “Seriously though, what are you doing here? Please, don’t tell me you need a lawyer.”

“Hm, non. Haven’t been caught t’ need one. ‘M jus’ bored, n boredom comes wit’ bot’erin’ people ‘round New York!” She smiled.

“You know, if I were non the wiser, I’d 100% mistake your voice for your mama’s.” He teases her, a soft smile on his face. “Well, I’m kind of working right now but you’re free to stay here if you don’t have any place better to be in. There’s a diner nearby, if you’d like me to place an order.”

Zoë blinked, then tilted her head. “Woah, hold on, ya know Rogue? I get dat some man time by people who know my parents, but I got dis mix o’ Cajun, Southern, ‘n Nee York accent.”

She crossed her arms, deciding she could be useful. “Can I help? I could make a good lawyer if I actually studied. ‘M de daughter o’ de King o’ T’ieves. I know my way ‘round plaintiffs ‘n de accused.”

“I know her, not personally. I’m pretty sure I fought alongside your dad a long time ago, though.” Matt lets out a chuckle and shakes his head at her words, pinching the bridge of his nose. “If you study and pass the bar exam, you could help me. But I don’t think studying law is something that truly interests you, does it?” He tilts his head slightly at his question, taking a few steps back and opening the door for her. “In the meanwhile, I think I don’t need any help. Thank you, though.”

“Oh! Fightin’ wit’ papa is fun!” Zoë gave a sheepish smiled. “Er, no. My life style is a contradiction. Underage gamblin’, larceny, de works. ‘M more crafty dan anyt’in’. Plus ‘m in de infirmary too often fo’ gettin’ int’ fights. Dey ain’t my fault t’ough.”

She stepped through the door, thinking about what she just said. Yeah, great things to say to a person you didn’t know personally.

“You didn’t hear none o’ dat.”

He just stares at her direction blankly, clearing his throat and nodding at her words. “You know, maybe you should give me five bucks before you say something like that. For attorney-client privileges.”

Zoë smiled sheepishly. “Is it really breakin’ de law if de government don’ know ya exist? Or if most, it not all, o’ it takes place at home? I never said I did dose t’ings publicly.”

“Anyway, may I stay ‘n watch ya work? ‘M bored. How do ya do stuff if yo’ blind? Is dat question invasive?”

“Well, I’m just gonna have to act as if I’ve heard nothing.” He walks towards his work desk, folding his white cane and placing it on the desk before looking back up at her direction, smiling. “Nah, you’re good. Not invasive at all. I use braille, screen readers and other audio stuff.” He grabs one of his many documents piled up on his desk, sliding it towards her so she could see the braille. “That’s how I read.”

I do wonder, how do you manage to stay grounded with your senses when you're that close to people in the act? I would imagine it's really overstimulating for you..

The erratic heartbeats, the breathing patterns... Especially when you're that close to a person? It sends a heat to my face just thinking about it.

How does the build-up start, typically? How aware are you if someone is.. "in the mood" like that towards you? How often does it happen?

It’s been a long process, but I’ve managed to learn how to handle everything. I’ve become less prone to getting overwhelmed by my senses, unless my partner is full on screaming or something like that.

The build-up? I can always sense it, it’s pretty easy for me to tell. I’d say it happens often, yeah. I usually make the first move after that, after taking some moments to just focus on their heartbeat and how they’re feeling.
