"There’s an old Lithuanian writer, Jurgis Savickis? He’s hard to look up if you don’t know Lithuanian sadly, but he wrote lots of short stories that I just love. I think I remember reading a few Goethe poems in school actually, I might have to revisit a few!"
Toris blinked and offhandedly wondered if Gilbert was lying a little. Why would he though? He didn’t seem the type to care much about impressions. He most likely fumbled a little with his words, no harm done.
Toris began to seriously wonder, though, with Gilbert’s next question.
"Are you…cool?"
He thought for a moment; Gilbert obviously needed validation for some reason. Toris wasn’t sure why (had he said something wrong?) but he smiled honestly and nodded.
"I think you’re incredibly cool! You’re very friendly and interesting and you hold such intelligent conversation!"
There was relief in his face. Validation was good. It seemed honest, too. It was a relief, honestly. To be told he was in fact ‘cool’. Perhaps it was silly, crazy even to be so worried about what others viewed him as. After all, perhaps validation was silly.
He relaxed, “You’re cool, too.” He responded, and he was. Toris was interesting, unique, he broke the mold most seemed to fit around here, and it was refreshing.

”So, so you have a favorite poem? Mine is ‘Gefunden’ by Goethe.”
Gilbert's instant satisfaction at the compliment was a wonderful thing and Toris smiled. It was nice to know the people you talked to liked you, he knew. It was a freeing thought.
Toris fought back the urge to preen at the response and merely smiled wider as his face got warmer. "Thank you," (Compliments always had made him feel especially nice)
"I can't say I read much poetry, honestly. Sorry. I don't think I've ever read 'Gefunden' either? What is it about?"
