About 3 years ago, we got the extreme honour to meet Barbara Wheaton when she came in for a Toronto Blue Jays tattoo and a fix on an existing Cardinal tattoo. This was also when we met her daughter, Kelli Cooper. (Kelli and her spectacular family have since become great friends of the shop.) Sadly, Barbara passed away on Halloween after a few months of dealing with a double lung transplant. Kelli wanted a tattoo for her mum and so it was decided that a Blue Jay and Cardinal would be the ideal tattoo to honour Barbara and how she was the catalyst to this friendship. A fedora is a hat. The name of the hat comes from a play called Fédora by Victorien Sardou, named after the main character. Popular in the early 20th century, it has become a stereotype for gangsters or private investigators. They mainly come in black, sometimes with a band of coloured fabric around the rim. While both male and female mosquitoes feed on nectar and plant sap, only female mosquitoes bite because they need the protein from blood to produce their eggs. Haku first appears as a boy of about sixteen, but he is actually a lost river spirit that also can take the form of a white dragon. In his guise as a white dragon his appearance suggests a river: flowing and graceful. As Haku, however, he is not always so composed, and he exhibits both bravery and real sadness. The river he once represented, the Kohaku River, was drained and paved over to build an apartment complex, and Haku is truly a lost soul. Though he has made a home of sorts at the bathhouse, he knows he once had another home, and the loss of it haunts him.
