Someone: Fuck Belikov
Rose: I’m trying to
Adrian:You are just shredded. How do you do it?
Dimitri: Exercise and diet. It’s not that hard.
Adrian: Eh, seems pretty hard to me. I don’t think I’m gonna do that.
Rose: So, I was thinking…
Dimitri: What? Tell me, I would do anything for you-
Rose: Wait, let me finish. You could…
Dimitri: You want me to give you the world? No problem, I’ll do it for you.
Rose: NO DIMITRI WAIT-
Dimitri: Anything, Roza.
Rose: You could let me drive.
Dimitri: Oh no, no way.
hey remember when rose hathaway was literally accused of murder and her best defense was that the murder was so poorly done that it couldnt possibly be her work
Lissa and Jill end up bonding over something unexpected; the trashy, dramatic reality TV shows that Lissa picks up from college.
Christian understood the running, at least he thought he did. Then came the day that he understood the running.
**
It was finals time for Lissa and Rose, meaning they had been staying on campus. But a crisis at Court needed Lissa’s immediate attention. It was late in the day when the news came in, meaning it would be a race against the sun to get back within the Court wards. Dimitri and Christian accompanied them on the trip.
The sun won. Traffic out of the city delayed them, leaving them in the dark despite Dimitri’s loose interpretation of traffic laws. They were close to Court, but not close enough
The group was smart. They laid a strip of spikes on the road, causing the cars to swerve out of control, useless. Lissa was knocked unconscious by the crash, having had her head against the window to rest.
Surrounded, knowing they would have to fight their queen out of danger and some of them might die trying, Dimitri looked at Christian.Â
“Run. Take her and run.” Christian sees this for what it is; an extreme show of faith and trust.Â
He slings Lissa’s limp body over his shoulders and brings up a ring of fire around the two of them. A Strigoi that was converging on them immediately flinched away, allowing Christian to start to sprint.Â
When he looks up again, he can see the guard outposts of the Court ahead. He adjusts Lissa and lets the flames grow a little more, knowing how close to safety they are and not wanting to risk anything now.Â
The guardians’ on the outpost recognise the sight of Christian running in his circle of flames and rush out to help him. He automatically adjusts for them, their eyes widening at suddenly being surrounded by fire. He runs Lissa across the ward lines and nearly collapses with relief.
That relief is short lived, as he remembers who he left behind. He waits by the ward line after being assured that Lissa is just fine.
An agonising hour later, the guardians’ who had been with them cross into the Court, with one of their number draped between the shoulders of two of them. It looks like he’s injured pretty badly, but-
His thoughts are interrupted by Rose bowling into him, hugging him close and whispering over and over “thank you, you did it, thank you.” Christian held onto her, letting himself deflate after the ordeal and rest on her strength. When she let him go to rush off to the medical bay and her charge, it was time for Christian to give his own thanks.
He finds Dimitri conferring with Hans, but he steps away when he sees Christian approaching. Much like Rose had, Christian wraps his arms around Dimitri, pouring all of his relief and gratitude into the embrace. When he steps back, he grasps Dimitri’s forearm and looks into his eyes.Â
“Thank you.”Â
**
Three days later, Lissa joins them on their morning run.
Christian eventually adjusts to the weight of a whole other person on his back and feels proud. Gets complacent. He shouldn’t have.
“Christian, can you keep a ring of fire around you? Just a smallish one, doesn’t have to be full body,” Dimitri asks, knowing full well he could. Christian gets the ring around himself and his bag of literal weights. Dimitri smiles. Not his sweet smile after a joke. Not his Rose-is-the-sun smile. No, his I’ve had an idea that is brilliant but will make you miserable smile.
“Well done. Now run.”
Months go by and the guards around the edge of the Court become familiar with the sight of their Queen’s fiance being chased by one of the most famous guardians in the early hours of the mornings. A few of them start keeping an extra water bottle with them to throw to their Prince Consort as he runs past, especially once Belikov gives him a heavily weighted backpack to run with.
Christian asking for Dimitri to train him as he would a dhampir, not realising what lesson number one would be; running.
Eddie starts a group chat where he chronicles Adrian’s parenting fails.
He also occasionally sends tear-jerkingly cute moments, but 3 of the hardest of core guardians will never admit to being moved.
Except Dimitri. He’d just melt and look at Rose pleadingly.
“I’m not broody yet, Comrade.”Â
That was okay, he’d wait.

With Lissa and Rose away a Lehigh and being queenly, Christian would get pretty bored, pretty quick. Especially in that period before defense lessons for Moroi are actually legalised and going. Post High School, there’s Not a Lot Going On at the Moment for Christian and by extension, Dimitri. The only hobby we see him have other than learning to be a magical badass is cooking...
Christian decides to do an human evening (early morning for them) cooking class, with Dimitri in it as his partner. Dimitri’s knife skills come in handy and he not so secretly loves it. They get super pumped up about classes every week, and start practicing at home. The unable-to-boil-water Rose and so-busy-it’s-exhausting-just-watching-her-please-get-that-girl-a-pillow Lissa are not even a little mad.Â
As the class goes on, it becomes clear that everyone in their class thinks they are an adorable couple doing date night, which they can’t even deny because it explains Dimitri being there far better than 2 dudes being bros. The other Court guardians who watch Christian and Lissa made a few jokes until that one week Christian and Dimitri didn’t share. Their beautiful love was respected there on out.
