âThey donât.â Caroline thought back to the last day she had spoken to Tom, remembering what he had said. âI mean, kind of â he said, âyou know, vampires, werewolves, witches, things like that.â So I guess that could be three possibilities, or just what came to mind first,â the mundane sighed. âThe one thing there is that he said witches instead of warlocks. Could he have been thinking of a female warlock in particular, or mundanes that dabble in magic? Or did he just say that because âwarlockâ isnât a particularly common term in the mundane world.â Shaking her head, Caroline gave him an apologetic look. âIâve been going in circles like this since he went missing. The one hope I have is that my uncle is a member of the Praetor Lupus.â
Theon sighed although important none of what his roommateâs brotherâs words really helped narrow anything down, still he wasnât surprised to find out the cops had no information this area really was beyond them. âHm. Either of the three is possible but to me it would be strange werewolf behaviour, to steal someone away like that. Vampires are more proud, private and their destain for mundanes endless, I can easily imagine them doing this. Witches is the commonly used term so it make senses he would use it for that purpose but I would rule out mundanes dabbling in magic. Why then try to convince you of vampires and werewolves as well?â Thoughts tumbled in the Theonâs mind wondering what had been going on in the missing mundaneâs head, if they had been just words or clues left to uncover. As he realised what Caroline said Theon became confused and slightly frustrated. âYour uncle is a member of the Praetor Lupus and neither you nor your brother knew of the Shadow world. Why havenât you rung him already?â

ââIt was a mistake,â you said. But the cruel thing was, it felt like the mistake was mine, for trusting you.â
alice-whelan:
Alice looked down at the chopping board and her messed up carrots. ââYeah..I am making some kind of stew. Thanks for the reassurance. Are you speaking from experience? Itâs not being safe Iâm worried about, I can take care of myself.ââ She somewhat calmly stated, however, him mentioning the safety of this place made her frown for a second if there was something sheâd missed. Alice raised an surprised eyebrow at that but couldnât help but see the humor in it. ââEven though I just pointed a knife at you?ââ
âI havenât had stew in a while, though God knows itâs one of the easier things to cook. And yes, I am speaking from experience. The knife tells me you can look after yourself.â Theon smiled amused before continuing âI just mean unless you really piss someone off itâs unlikely theyâll hurt you in the Claveâs house.â Theon moved forward to lean on the kitchen table thinking a moment, deciding how to answer. âThat only tells me that youâre hyper-vigilant and you donât like being it people enter a room without your knowing. Neither of those things mean youâre a bad person.â
haileymacauley:
âHey what can i say? may aswell be a little quirky rather than the same as every other vampire people meet?â sheâd chuckle softly. âSo tell me Theon, what brings you to this hellish institute?â
âItâs definitely a change from other vampires and you wonât find me complaining about it.â Theon joked, always glad to meet a vampire who wasnât embittered by their old age or trying to suck the life out of him. The mundane shrugged replying âSame thing as you I assume. End of the world and all that jazz.âÂ
carolinexday:
âYeah, right away. He often didnât come home at night, so his roommate didnât get suspicious until it had been a second day and his wallet and things had been left behind,â she sighed. âAnd he was gone without a trace.â Caroline ran her fingers through her hair. âI donât know what to do.â
âDid the police say anything? I going to guess with they didnât have any leads.â Theon sympathised for his room mate though he had been an only child he was sure that Carolineâs brotherâs disappearance was hard for her. âI suppose itâs always likely that he was taken by demons though why I couldnât guess. Was there any species in particular he talked about when he asked you about the supernatural? That might be a clue but either way you want to find him, right? So find him.â
alice-whelan:
Alice blinked a few times before realizing sheâd actually been pointing the knife at him. For a second, she composed herself, before answering the man who apparently was called Theon. ââOriginally to cut carrots with, but truthfully? This new environment.ââ At least thinking about it had stopped her break down and the guy didnât come across as aggressive or threatening at the moment. ââSorry, my name is Alice by the way.ââ She replied, lowering the knife in her confusion.
Theon was glad to see the knife being lowered, he might be immortal but being stabbed with a knife would still be deadly. âCarrots? Are you cooking something? Youâll get used to the environment, and you should be safe here, no one should be out to harm you.â He doubted anyone would but Institute had been infiltrated before and there were many older Downworlders who wouldnât hesitate to harm another even if they were fighting for the Shadowhunters. âNice to meet you.â
clarissaxromanoff:
âI guess thatâs more than fair, thatâs why there is something for everyone. Or at least, in my experience there is.â Clarissa sighed to herself, tilting her head as she observed the mundane. Tapping her fingers on the arm of her chair, biting on her lip. âSo, what brings someone like you to the Institute? Not that Iâm not glad for your presence, you bring some levity to this place.â
âVery true, there was a time I worried about classical music it seemed no one was interested. Now it seems to be coming back into fashion, as things tend to do.â Theon wondered for a second if he had given too much of himself away then, if he seemed older then his appearance suggested but either way it was too late now. He only hoped the warlock didnât think his words strange.  âIâm a mundane with knowledge of the Shadow world when I heard wind of the situation I thought I would come and check it out and yourself?â

Williamsburg didnât look too much different from when he had last visited but that didnât settle the nerves that were building inside him. âRising levels of activity? Really ⊠everything seems pretty normal but then I guess that would be the whole point of this,â he said slowly, eyes continuously looking around him. He hadnât felt this on edge for a very long time and it was starting to tell, his fingers tapping the side of his leg anxiously. âI really hate not being able to trust my surroundings.âÂ
âI canât see anything wrong either, but as we said unusual activity levels could mean anything. It could be a while before anything weird actually happens.â Theon replied keeping his eyes on the crowd looking out for anomalies. âIâm sure every one feels a little like that at first but youâll adjust soon enough. Even I felt similar when I found out about the Shadow world.â The mundane admitted, as a young vampire Matt felt it more than Theon did but discovering the Shadow world had thrown off Theonâs world view.Â
haileymacauley:
A smile crossed the blondes face. âYeah, sorry about bumping into you, for a vampire iâm a bit of a clutz.â sheâd let a chuckle escape her lips. âIâm Hailey by the way!â
Theon mirrored the vampireâs smile âA klutzy vampire is a first for me I have to say but itâs nice to meet you either. Theon.â

Alice had been at the Institute for over a week now, but still couldnât seem to get over the fact that monsters, real monsters, not just bad human beings, were real. At the moment, the best thing for her to do right now was to get back into a normal daily routine to keep herself busy, a routine that happened to involve cooking of course. However, the loneliness of having to cook and eat alone quickly got to her as her hands began to shake when sheâd started cutting up the carrots. ââGod damnit!ââ cursing to herself, she had the urge to just throw the whole thing in the trash, but a sound to her left startled her, instinctively increasing her hold on the kitchen knife. ââWho are you?ââ
Led to the kitchen by a rumbling stomach Theon hadnât bat an eyelid at the other person in the kitchen - it was hardly a shock to find someone there considering the time - but he didnât appreciate the waving knife. âTheon. Can I ask why the knife?â The mundane asked his right hand whirling in the air in a circular motion as if to imitate the knife.
Hailey would wander into the institute aimlessly looking around clearly bored senseless. Sheâd be rather distracted in her thoughts, only being snapped back to reality when she crashed unexpectedly into a innocent bystander. âCrap iâm so sorry!â
âThatâs okay.â Theon replied slightly distracted as he got over the shock of having bumped into the other person. He didnât recognised her but there were quite a few people in the Institute, and more arriving by the day so that wasnât particularly unusual. âAre you alright?â
clarissaxromanoff:
âOh, you can count on that,â Clarissa grinned back at him, brushing her hair away from her face. Watching him as he lowered the fall board, she shifted in her seat a little and crossed her legs and tapped the ash from her cigarette out. She placed the cigarette on her lips, her eyes following him closely as he faced her properly. âNot opposed to the Classical or the Romance era but there something about Bach that I find quite astounding.â
âIâm sure I can.â Theon doubted he would forget it either, or if he did Clarissa would be quick to remind him. âYes I can understand that and of course some of his pieces are amazing but I have never felt the same draw to him as others.â
carolinexday:
âFair Enough,â Caroline mirrored his small smile. âSo, my twin brother and I were born with the Sight â but other than some stuff when we were really little, we both pretty much managed to rationalize and ignore it,â she paused, shrugging. âBut last July, out of the blue, Tom asked me if I believe in the supernatural. At the time â abso-fucking-lutely not! I thought he was joking, and then he laughed it off, so it was business as usual. Until â,â she took a deep breath. âA week later I had a run in with a demon. And suddenly I didnât think heâd been kidding. But when I called him, it turned out heâd been missing for two days and that his roommate was about to call the police.â Caroline sat back, collecting her thoughts. âAnd I donât think he vanished because of mundane causes.â
Theon was intrigued by Carolineâs story, he didnât think he had heard of twins both born of the sight. Of course the disappearance of her twin wasnât a shock but it would be hard to ascertain the perpetrator with little other information. âWell itâs only natural that you wouldnât believe him, in this day and age would few people would. Two days can be a while in a missing case, did you inform the police in the end? But I agree itâs unlikely after talking to you about the supernatural that mundanes were the cause of his disappearance. Of course the big question is who took him?â
open starter for @valberg-theon
It had been a while since heâd visited Williamsburg, the last heâd done so was to visit one of his friends from the army when they had been given leave. Looking around at the crowded streets, Matt found himself holding his breath as he walked amongst the mundanes â his eyes looking around as they walked along the street. Everything so far seemed normal enough, mundane enough as they carried on down the street slowly while he lit a cigarette but that didnât mean that his nerves were on edge.Â
âWhat do you suppose weâre meant to be looking out for?â
Theon couldnât remember if he had ever been to Williamsburg before but it was a nice area, full of people and it was clearly an eclectic mix. In a way it saddened Theon to watch everyone going about their daily business oblivious to the turmoil that was brewing. Knowing that he would never be able to regain that innocence, donât get him wrong he loved his long life and had met some great people on the way but a sense of nostalgia was hit him watching people in crowds. âAnything unusual I suppose. They said there were rising activity levels around here, but they didnât specify the cause though itâs most likely they meant demons.â
carolinexday:
âItâs kind of an odd story,â she hesitated, not sure if Theon would want to hear it. âYeah? I wasnât sure if that would accomplish anything, but I guess Iâll give that a try.â
âIâve probably heard odder.â Theon replied lips curling into a teasing smile, he might not be the oldest person in the building but he had heard some interesting stories over the years. Still he didnât want to force the girl to tell him her story so he told her as much before adding âItâs always worth it, and if they canât help no doubt they can help point you in the right direction.â
