“In Mueller’s junior year, he was cast in a school play with Liz Gumble, a student one grade behind him. The two began dating, in March 1981, and became, by all accounts, inseparable. When Gumble went away for a brief vacation with her family, Mueller expressed his grief with typical theatricality. “He wore her scarf wrapped around his neck every day till she came back,” says a classmate. Friends recall that Vedder was inconsolable after the breakup. “Things fell apart for him in senior year.”After the breakup with his girlfriend Liz Gumble, he quit school and moved to Chicago, where his mother and brothers had relocated.”

Oh. I wondered what had hurt Eddie so badly and wow. Eddie feels things really deeply it seems. Like, he carried that with him for a long time. The pain of the breakup, I mean. So even when he had another girlfriend he still felt it. Oh my god. And to this day he sings that song. Different meaning now though. But. That means he remembers her all the time and that’s. Dude. That’s. Wow.

Walls of hovering clouds. Slashes of lightning. Brush fires voraciously consuming the landscape. As a storm chaser for Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald, Nick Moir (@nampix) is accustomed to showing his audience the world as they’ve never seen it, but he also enjoys highlighting nature’s gentler moments. “People have the idea that photojournalists, that we’re all hard-nosed, that we don’t care about anything but war and destruction, but it’s not the case at all,” Nick says. “We all have a deep love of the world around us.”

On Instagram, Nick experiments in a way that isn’t possible inside mainstream media. “I can put stuff out there and it’s a great way to judge what’s worth pursuing.” The newspaper may not put a seal basking under a rainbow or an insect’s-eye view of a tree on its front page, but it’s an image Nick’s fans wouldn’t want to miss.
