Rafael heard the words and forgot how to breathe for just a few seconds. She sounded terrifying, the kind of anger that was covered in both fire and ice. He moved away from the wall and began to walk, trying to remain quiet as he pushed deeper into the caves. He couldn’t see, not wanting to turn on the light so he ran his fingers over the walls to guide him. He needed to see if it was here. The desire pushed past his typical common sense.

Valera moved deeper into the underground then paused and listened. She smiled when she heard footsteps. Not wasting another second, Val took off in the direction of the intruder. “You can’t hide from me, human.”

Personality: Alaric is quiet and usually level headed. Very much the strong silent type but will not hesitate to speak up when he feels he needs to. I see him being a big gambler but that’s simply a suggestion. Not a fan of the human race in general and very cautious of witches. Background: Alaric was hatched in the arctic. He spent much of his life shuttling between communities, trading and dealing whatever and wherever needed to maintain a comfortable life for himself. Unfortunately as technology has evolved traders like Alaric are going extinct. The things being sent to and from the frozen North are most often supplies for new pipelines, instruments used to further stress the environment or humans looking for an adventure in the up north but not caring about the cost their intrusion has on the ecosystem. Alaric is simply too principled to be part in any small way of the destruction of his home, so he has come to the Institute to find another way. How are the characters connected? If Valera is the sun then Alaric is the moon. The two dragons have known each other for ages and Alaric proudly boasts to being Val’s right hand man. Anything else: They come from a Matriarchal society so Alaric is also respectful of Valera’s opinions and will allow her to take the lead in most situations, at least publicly. I see them as having a kind of respectful back and forth behind closed doors. Val would honor and respect his opinion as much as he does hers, the only difference being she cannot afford to appear weak in public due to the dragon’s societal structure. As for a romantic relationship I’ll leave that up to chemistry.

I do see hope for the film industry, and believe change is coming in waves. It’s starts with more gratifying, intelligent and complex women roles being written and showcased. I feel the more that we demand to see women portrayed in positive, intelligent and leadership roles, the more it will be the norm. I love knowing there are young women watching “The 100” and connecting to a character like ass-kicking, mechanical engineer, space whiz Raven Reyes. Who knows, maybe they are being inspired to become our next future female astronauts.

If you could change the entire world in one tiny but pervasive way, what would it be?

Easy. I’d enact global restrictions on carbon emissions effective immediately and brutally enforce them even to the point of first world genocide. The world needs to be held accountable.

Rafael tread lightly and then heard something again. He clicked off his light and flattened himself against the wall, breathing shallowly. Dios. This was not good. He thought he would have more time. Why was she back so soon? 

Val could smell the intruder. It made her fume that someone was bold enough to enter her home without her permission. “Fe, fi, fo, fum, I smell your blood, stranger.” She licked her lips letting her voice bounce off the walls and carry through the tunnels.
