Clayâs golden eyes settled on the female as she seemed almost in awe of the sight of him. He was used to it to some degree, seeing a wolf out in the open was very rare and he was a fine specimen for his species, huge, powerfully built with thick red and grey fur. He chuckled, the sound coming out as a rumbling growl at her words before Clay really took her in.Â
Something about her was so familiar, and her scent, he knew heâd smelt it before, but not for a long while. She was a witch, that was clear from the thick layer of magic to her scent, just like his KenziâŠAnd then it hit him. âLacey.â He said her name, remembering it. Sheâd been young then, back in the Coven and Clay had only had minor dealings with the witches of the area. Adam had dealt with them more, being the Alpha, but he remembered them, and he remembered how fond Kenzi had been of her. âLong time no see.âÂ
Lacey was used to knowing the wolves she came by, know them and be friends with them so it was strange for her not to be able to just walk up to this wolf and bury her hands in its fur. It made her long for home, something she hadnât thought about in a long time, years even. Then the wolf said her name and Lacey could her in his tone how it wasnât a name he was remembering from them having recently met, but rather a name from a long time ago. So she had been right about knowing the wolf from before this island.
She had to think for a moment, recall the wolves she had known back when she had been part of a coven. Her jaw dropped slightly in surprise when she realized it. âClay... right?â She hadnât spoken much to him back then and she remembered another wolf more clearly when she thought about this one. âYouâre Adamâs mate.â As soon as she had said it, she could tell that something was off, though. She frowned, glancing around as if she expected to see something - or someone. âOr... were?â It was unlike wolves to leave their mate and Lacey knew what it meant, she just wasnât quite ready to take it in yet.
