Her father is not her father and she’s actually half Puerto Rican rather than Mexican, but she has no idea of this. She grew up with Javi as a full sibling and that’s all she is aware of.
She’s always had an outgoing personality, loving partying and spending time with her friends.
Her relationship with Jade was pretty good in high school, the two of them having many common interests but things went South when they started working together due to Jade’s shift in personality.
Her mother went to prison when she was a year old but to this day, she remains incredibly close with her. She actually let her move in with her recently.
She’s pretty goofy as a person, she loves to make a joke out of herself and would’ve taken a career in comedy if she felt she could’ve been successful.
She has a four year old golden retriever named Honey that she rescued three years ago from a bad home. She is truly her best friend and she treats her like an actual baby most of the time.
Her only time outside of Hidehill was when she went to the University of Georgia to study Mathematics. She then went on to be AP certified and teaches AP Calculus at Hidehill High.
She pledged Delta Phi Elipson and is still an active alumni board member of the sisterhood. She treats them like family.
As a person, she is supportive, dynamic and thoughtful. She has moments where she can stress herself out over small things, but she is an advocate for therapy and would rather hash her internal problems out there than anywhere else.
The Southern charm is strong within her in every aspect. Her favorite pastime is horseback riding, which she took up as a child on a friend’s family farm in Hagfield.
She plays the acoustic guitar but she cannot sing to save her life, so she often plays it for her students while they sing instead.
Her favorite time of year is autumn because she gets to do pumpkin patching, enjoy her pumpkin spice lattes and take those group photos with her friends where they all wear variations of that iconic fall Southern girl outfit.
She was engaged after university but they separated on amicable terms, deciding they made better friends than lovers.
Whenever him and Val were at the same event, his eyes were constantly looking for her in the crowd. He noticed that her and Ronnie were a thing in the forum but seeing it in person was different. He couldn’t remember the last time Val really looked at someone like that and given their family background, it wasn’t something he planned on digging too much into even though his protective instincts were screaming at him. There was just something about Ronnie that bugged him. Ever since those text messages he got while he was in jail. He turns his head as Val walks over to the bar and stands next to him. “So, you and Ronnie?” He gestures his chin in the other man’s direction. “How serious is it?”
...
Val had left Ronnie for a moment while she went off to speak to her friends and look for her brother. The brother who had been placed in jail for something he didn’t do. The brother who looked at for her at all times. The brother she was now having to tell that she was moving in with Ronnie. How, though? With a cheerful pep in her step, she approached her brother with a wide grin, a grin that almost immediately fell when he started asking questions about her boyfriend. “Uh...” she was at a loss for words. How in the hell was she going to disclose the fact that they’d been moving so fast? “Well... he asked me to move in?” that was a way to approach it. Just blurt it out. Good job, Valeria. “And I said yes...” mentally preparing herself to be called stupid for such hasty decisions. She was falling in love with, Ronnie. She wasn’t sure why, but he had some sort of hold on her and he wasn’t letting to anytime soon.
“Babe, you look really cute tonight.” Ronnie smiled at Val as he placed his hand on her hip pulling her towards him lightly. He thought their matching costumes were fun and a nice little idea and he figured they’d be the only ones out there dressed like that. There was nothing worse than showing up to something and somebody else was the exact same, he hated it. “You want me to buy you a drink? Make sure you’re not putting your drink down at any point okay? I don’t want anyone to try anything.” He looked at her with concern. Everything going on with the shadow right now he didn’t want Val taking any risks.
...
Valeria smiled at the compliment from Ronnie, placing a hand on his upper arm and leaning in to press a gentle kiss to his lips. She was never a major fan of the horror genre and had only seen Scream probably once in her life, but when Ronnie made the suggestion of Billy and Sidney, she re-watched the film at least seven separate times in order to really get Sidney’s style down. She was smitten, clearly. “Babe, I think you’re worrying yourself too much. I would love a drink, though. Surprise me...” she then scratched the back of her neck awkwardly, wanting to bring up the fact that she’d spoken to her brother earlier about him but not completely sure how to approach that conversation. “Um... so I told Javi about.. you asking me to move in..”
“Do you feel like everyone can be at peace now that the killer has been captured?” Draven didn’t know a lot about the people here, or the town for that matter, so he had found himself trying his best to ask a bunch of questions to get to know things a little more. So, as he made his way around the party, trying his best to just get to know anyone he could, he was striking up conversations left and right. “I don’t know much about that Danny kid, personally, but what do you think his motive was?”
...
Valeria was truly baffled by anyone coming up to her to discuss that of all things on a night that was meant to be fun for everyone. She’d spent the last week comforting her boyfriend who was distraught about his best friend being a maniac and now she was having to answer questions from a stranger. “Quite frankly... I don’t give a fuck..” she stated with her lips pressed in a thin line, shoulders lifting into a shrug. “Can we talk about literally anything else, hon? Like.. maybe how well the Titans been kicking ass?”
Javier: I feel like shit. Someone framed me. I didn't think I was going to get out of there all because I beat that stupid fuckers face in when I was 18. My apartment was ransacked and there's caution tape instead of a door. [unsent]
Javier: It's nothing I haven't done before, I'm seriously fine, Val. I just need a hot shower and my own bed.
Val: Well... before the Wicked Witch of the Whores tells you..
Val: She went into the forum to proclaim your innocence and I let her know I thought it was inappropriate.
Val: But never once did I think that you did this.
Val: But let me know if you need anything at all. I'll take off of work next week.
Valeria had been sickened by all of the news. Knowing full-well that she could have helped, put an end to whatever happened to Sofia, but instead she’d lost track of time on one of her many dates with Ronnie. Fucking Ronnie. Ever since the two of them had gotten together, she seemed to be so smitten by his actions, she was slowly forgetting about the things and people who mattered to her the most.
Boots sounding as she entered the room, she looked at Sofia with a sadness in her eyes that could only be described as guilt. “Hey, chica...” she let out softly, reaching out to move a few strands of stray hair from her friend’s face. “I’m.. so fucking sorry I let you down. I was supposed to be there.. like we promised... and instead I was.. with Ronnie...” the same Ronnie who was shocked to hear what his best friend had done. The same Ronnie who remembered all of her favorite foods, color and recalled the childhood memories she told him. She trusted him.. for now. But With Danny’s arrest, she needed to be more careful with her time.
“I understand... if you fuckin’ hate me. But know I’m going to make this shit up to you. I promise that.. even if it means I gotta shank the asshole who did this himself.” And if it was Danny, she would do her best to get a visit with that man and let him know exactly how she felt.
