Can I talk about this movie for a sec?? Zac efron was so good at playing ted bundy’s sick and charismatic ass that I legit doubted for a second whether or not ted bundy actually killed those girls. I know the history. I even know some of the girls names. But I was still following his stupid story!!! Like I used to scoff at how ted bundy had fangirls supporting him because who could be that dumb but damn I get it now.

The movie also reaffirmed my fear of guys that don’t show their true colors until you’re dead so yeah

The portrayal of a talented sociopath was SO GOOD. Storytellers usually make it so there is a chink in their facade - you know - where there is emptiness behind their eyes when no one is looking, where they are plotting ruining everything for everyone, and the viewers get to feel like they are seeing through this clever disguise, but that’s not how it works.

Guys, I’m really sorry to bring it up but I’m really not doing well. I’m not okay. I’m a nervous wreck, and I’m questioning everything. I’m sick to my stomach and I really don’t know what to do or think. I found out last night that Devon Erickson was one of the shooters at STEM High School, and… Fuck. 

I knew him. I was friends with him. I had done a musical with him a few years back. That’s over 4 weeks of up to 3 hours spending time with him. For a month, I laughed and goofed around and shared one of the best experiences of my life with a sweet, shy, creative kid who had a bright soul and who was smart, funny, charismatic, and the absolute last person I would ever expect to go down this path. I lost touch with him, and well, now we’re here. But during that month, we became extremely close friends. I’d even say I had a crush on him. But now, I don’t know what to think because I’m having such a fucking hard time processing what happened and I’m just so angry at the fact that another one of these situations had to happen and we’re still not doing anything. 

We’re letting kids grow up in unsafe environments and we’re letting them become school shooters by not acting and instead just “giving our condolences” or “praying for the victims.” 

Praying isn’t going to solve shit. 

Please, if you can, vote. Participate in your community. Listen to your kids. Get involved. Teach them coping skills and lay the foundation for a relationship with them based off of total confidence and communication. Let them know that they can come to you. Reach out to people if you’re worried. Get them help if there’s a problem. Reach out to your friends and let them know you’re there for them.

And stop fucking running away from mental illness. 

Needless to say, I’m thoroughly disgusted by the way people are treating this case and what they’re saying about Devon. Unless we can shift our perspective into realizing that no matter how horrific an act they committed, they’re still human, we’re going to be stuck in the same vicious cycle of seeing children get massacred and not be able to do anything to prevent it. Mental illness is just as serious as physical illness and we need to learn how to accept that and act on it. Just because we can’t see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. In no way, shape or form am I excusing Devon’s behavior nor the second shooter’s, but what I am saying is that instead of trying to find evidence through his search history, his backpack, his car, in his room or in his textbooks to fit your agenda of calling him a “disgusting monster who deserves the death penalty,” why don’t you sit down with him and listen to what he has to say about what led him to commit these acts. Stop projecting your ideas about “good and evil” onto human beings and instead start listening to the stories of psychologically impaired, ill individuals of whom we can learn from. This is a learning opportunity for all of us in the community. For everyone.

He was a student at Columbine and a star basketball player at the school. Greg was 17 at the time of the shooting. His best friend, Matthew Kechter died in the shooting. Greg also witnessed coach Dave Sanders die. He took his life two weeks after the first anniversary of Columbine.

Choices

I have a long history with the tcc and everything it’s about. I have a personal history with it, personal experiences that make my reaction to things a little different. 

There was a point in my life that I did condone. I was everything I’m against now (wasn’t a tcc thot, but ya know). I was an angry kid. I struggled. I know what it’s like to want to watch the world burn, and I also know what it’s like to realize it’s better if it doesn’t. 

I turned around at nearly the last minute. I got lucky. I dodged a bullet I’d intended for myself. And I came out the other end. So yeah, I don’t like the part of the tcc that condones or thirsts or has lost sight of what really happened. I don’t like the part of the tcc that differentiates between Eric and Reb, or between Ted and the person he was when he went out at night. They’re the same guy. 

Nobody forced their hands. No matter what happens to you in life, you have choices. There were kids at Columbine who were bullied worse that Eric and Dylan, and there were kids whose parents paid less attention to them than Jeffrey Dahmer. They chose to do what they did. There were millions of moments that they could have turned around, and they didn’t. Even up to the end, Eric and Dylan could have shot two people and given up. 

They chose not to. At every point in these people’s lives there were forks in the road and they continually chose the wrong ones. They were fully in control and at any time they could have taken their fingers off of the trigger or dropped the crowbar and said “Never mind”. They didn’t. 

They chose to do the things they did. Our choices make us who we are, and they shape the course of our life. Everyone the tcc talks about made repeated choices- once, twice, thirty times- to kill. They made millions of little decisions, and each one of those decisions is something to judge.
