Ephialtes was organizing a ball for an holiday of their world, discussing the details with Lilya, Rosedust(both working on the flower decoration) and Maven(working on clothes). In the middle of their meeting, Athira(the library guardian) enters the room announcing there is a demon thief that stole a grimoire. Exactly in that moment, kane flies inside and bursts open the windows exiting the building, followed by Olivia and Folly. Outside Umbra and Beau, that were talking about the incoming party, see Kane and all the little fairies try to slow him down. At the same time that Ephialtes bursts outside running after kane, Ae’thyrr falls and lands on the balcony from up, also her hunting down Kane. Everyone else watching in disbelief the scene.

It was so fun drawing every one of the characters, and god, i poured my own soul in this.
I also made a slightly lighter version of the drawing, but i personally prefer this one. Gonna put it below if someone is curious. Also, if you want to tell me which one you prefer feel free!

So, I have done quite a bit of refining since I asked this. So, here's more lore:
Fae in my world are described by other species as "Copycat spirits". Fae are spirits with bodies. There are many, many types and species of Fae. Most Fae are animal, bird, or insect-based. Some are more humanoid and do possess intelligence, while others are more like very powerful magic animals. It is a spectrum to be navigated.
Crystal Fae are a subsection of Golems. Golems are fae based on nature: trees, grass, dirt, rock, ore, etc. Nymths are also a subsection of golems, as an example. Natural fae ("Natural" in the sense they were born of magic, not a union) are "born" when magic collects on something densely enough and long enough for a spirit to be created. This is how "Fae circles" come into play, since magic is an essential nutrient, plants will grow around these blooming spirits, making a fae circle.
Natural Crystal Fae are born when magic collects in ores for long enough; their "Fairy circles" create lush caves, sprouting moss, vines, and other cave plants. Crystal Fae are more humanoid in nature, though their forms are very malleable. If a Crystal Fae is strong enough/has enough magic, when they die(usually of physical damage since Fae are long living), they can come back without a physical form, being magic and their crystals. (Kind of like the Gems from Steven Universe)(If their soul crystal is badly damaged, there is no hope; they will just be dead.)
Crystal fae are a bit more durable; they are usually bigger as well (or smaller), they're surprisingly flexible, and they're built stronger than other fae. They tend to be rougher around the edges, culture-wise, than most fae(they usually gather with each other in the cave systems they were born in). In Fae society, if they were to leave their Family system, they would be the guards or laborers in regular fae society.

i love how you've expanded on your idea! you've put a lot of thought into it and it really shows ^^ i love the lush cave concept, it's very evocative. my question would be do crystal fae have any cultural naming conventions?
So, I finally finished this fanart! I’m still going strong with the faeu fixation, and it’s giving me a ton of inspo for things.
I have a little story for them in mind, but my time is being sucked up by exams period and university stuff. So, long story short, i want to draw and write a ton of things, but i cant.
Anyway, the little fae Night is holding is my oc Humm. The story of this art is, to make it brief, that they have a bet going on and she is losing. So, she tried to pull a little prank thinking of outsmarting him, and obviously failed. I dont want to spoil to much of this given that i want to write a little oneshot of them, but that’s a good summary.

I had to finally jump in and create a Fae au Umbra, Yapping + character stuff + Extra art below the cut!

He's a veil dragon- A small group of draconic magic users who create, produce and take care of The Veil that keeps the fae world and the human world 'seperate'. They also keep an eye on the entrances to the Fae world, though if they actually chase off invaders or simply let them pass is up to the dragon. They have both a larger fully dragon form and a smaller bipedal form they can take at will! Historically they are not seen in the Fae courts (their actual origins are unknown, but they are not Fae, they are something entirely Other) The war forced them to take sides and scramble for a place of safety.
Umbra joins Nightmare and his winter court, his offical title is 'envoy' bewteen the court and the Veil dragons. However the winter court only has Umbra, so his place is largely symbolic. His main 'duties' are ones he would carry out as a Veil dragon anyway, the official title is more there so he doesn't get bothered while he does his work. Rarely, he also advises the king as his knowledge of the enterances and magics of the fae realm are expansive.
As veil dragons are not known to live among Fae little is known about them, Umbra is one of the first and he often gets mistaken as a fae- with that assumption also coming with the assumption that he cannot lie, or touch iron etc- Which isnt true! Umbra won't correct anyone with this assumption, and he's happy to use it to his advantage if needed. (Just because he isn't a fae doesn't mean he can't be tricky!)
When Umbra isn't tending to the upkeep of the veil he can be found tutoring young Fae in illusion and fog magic, his specialties! Otherwise he lounges around Nightmares court, as serious and cold as he tries to appear- Umbra is a big fan of gossip and often makes the rounds to get any new knews that's popped up.
When Umbra isn't feeling as sociable he can be found exploring the woods of the winter court (Don't tell anyone but....he really likes hunting squirrels in dragon form....how embarrassing...) The one and only 'deal' Umbra has made for a humans freedom was made through this. An old man who had gotten lost in the fae realms, who had nothing to his name to trade, looking for a way home. Normally Umbra doesn't give such humans a way out, preferring to send them to the king but. the man had a house sprite with him, Umbra couldn't resist the trade- This tricky fox demon for his escape.
(A house sprite is created when an ordinary fox steals too many chickens from coops- It grows chicken legs and turns into a devil. If you manage to catch one and tie a peice of cloth around its neck, it is then bound to you and forced to do your bidding) (Design and Lore originally by 2lainn on toyhouse!)
Umbra's house sprite is named Twee, and shes extremely spoiled, has never picked up a broom or a sponge her entire time under Umbras care. He insults her all the time for being sneaky and bad, but he's the one spoiling her so~
In the last weeks i got heavily in a Faeu fixation, and this is the result of it.

Ngl, i love all the worldbuilding around the au. Also the design and lore are so captivating and beautiful. Nightmare is a fave of mine, but all of the skellies are really well made!
And obviously, i cant live through an hyperfixation without creating an oc, so here i present to yall Humm!
I'll make a character sheet of her with all the infos and lore i have. Also, i am planning on making a lil oneshot regarding their dialog that they are having in the drawing, but University is taking up all my time.
