We've been messing around in tiny glade recently, so I thought I'd try and design the main "castle" for the Summer Court. A lot of the structures in the Summer and Spring Courts are inspired by the art nouveau style.

(context: masquerade balls hosted by Nightmare)
It's a common and recognized practice to swap masks with a person if you've romantically connected during the party! It's an easy excuse to find them later, but also can be cause for scandal if people notice! Fae love to gossip
A common game for masquerades in Winter is that you must search for the person that invited you amongst all the guests. You arrive separately, dressed up and wearing a mask, and must mingle with other guests until you find your partner-- the twist is that you can't directly ask if they're your partner! You have to figure it out through conversation and mannerisms. It's a nice way to meet new people and socialize without too much pressure. Since everyone is trying to find someone else you're free to exit the conversation quickly (and politely) whenever you desire
Usually the masquerade has a theme; birds, blue, celestial, etc. Guests will often put incredible amounts of effort into their outfits to match the theme and each other
Shockingly, Nightmare is quite social at these events and is often found mingling amongst the guests. It's a recent development (in the last few centuries). He doesn't often get the chance to socialize in a casual setting with his constituents, so a masquerade is a good excuse for him to engage in more casual conversation without people asking things of him. Some still try, of course, but he lightly shuts them down, directing them to his scheduled hearings, and moves onto someone else
Invitations to one of Nightmare's masquerades are highly sought after. Normal galas are popular, of course, but the masquerades are considered highly exclusive and special events. Nightmare hosts them at random and only when the mood strikes him, so they are always a surprise.
facts about other galas/parties can be read about here
what kinds of magic are the different skeletons adept at?
Nightmare, Dream, Ink, and Error are capable of using most kinds of magic, while the others are more limited in their skills. this is due to those four being Aspects and being older so they've had more time to learn. Nightmare and Error have the strongest foundations due to both being studious, though Error is far more focused on a niche.
that being said, they all have magic that they excel at or prefer:
Nightmare-- Shadow, Celestial, Ice, Cloud/Fog, Alchemy Killer-- Blood, Alchemy Dust-- Cloud/Fog, Curses Horror-- Earth, Crystal Cross-- Shapeshifting, Lightning
Dream-- Light, Celestial, Plant, Water, Fire Ink-- Spacial, Enchanting, Illusions, Summoning/Banishment, Shapeshifting Blue-- Water, Crystal Error-- Chaos, Illusions, Enchanting, Alchemy, Curses
more info about the different kinds of magic [here]
Dream is also a natural talent at healing and is occasionally called upon to handle injuries/illnesses that other healers cannot, but he doesn't consider it one of his favourite subjects. Nightmare is also very skilled at healing, but it's due to many years of study to be better than Dream and, by contrast, he doesn't utilise the skill nearly as often as his brother. in addition, Nightmare and Dream are both naturally talented in Psychic/Mental magic due to being Aspects of Positive and Negative Emotions, though it's a specialised form of that magic; they are both capable of sensing and influencing the emotions of others around them.
Error's specialisation in, and Aspect of, Chaos isn't related to mischievousness or disorder but rather to Chaos Theory; he is very in-tune with the state of the magic and realm and capable of recognising the complex patterns, interconnectedness, deterioration of states of matter, the butterfly effect, etc of everything around him. it's kind of like his version of seeing "code". if you have a problem with fate, curses, or luck he is the one capable of seeing the problem and (for the right payment) fixing it for you.
so, there are different types of magic associated with the spring/summer and autumn/winter courts, but i was wondering what kinds of magic would be associated with each court. for example: fire-based magic. fire season lasts from may-november, so i sort of associate it with both summer and autumn. do the broader categories of magic like elemental magic have overlap with both courts? or does it depend on the magics present in that specific area of court territory? i.e. nobody's gonna do water or ice magic in a desert
In the Courts you can do all types of magic, but some magics are weaker in certain Courts and specialties in others.

when it comes to new fae, at what point after joining a Court are they likely to start manifesting magic? are there classes that can help encourage fae to figure out their abilities?
magic is very personal and depends on the fae; it can manifest anywhere from the first day to years later. it depends on many factors such as general magic affinity, what magics the fae will be adept at (some are harder to tap into than others), their learning environment, confidence, etc.
both Courts have a fully established education system for young fae to learn magic, history, etc. while humans-turned-fae aren't common enough to have their own study path or classes established, there are fae (such as tutors) that will assist new fae in learning magic in a one-on-one environment. it's important to find one that will either teach you out of love for teaching or that doesn't ask a steep price; Cross and Blue are examples of such fae. they are usually the ones tasked with helping new fae in either Court and love to do so.
how does iron hurt fae? is it a burn or sickness?
it's a very bad burn if they touch it, but being in close proximity for extended periods of time would also make them ill! (like if they were in a small cell with iron bars)
Hi! I want to say I love all of the characters and story, it became my hyper fixation for a while recently. I wanted to ask what is all of the fae boy’s height? tallest to shortest if you don’t mind.(I don’t know if somebody already asked this or not.)
we're so happy to hear that you're enjoying it!! we have a height list on the pinned post, but it's a little outdated so here's the updated version ^^
Nightmare - 6'11 / 210cm Dream - 6'5 / 195cm Horror - 6'4 / 193cm Dust - 5'9 / 175cm Cross - 5'6 / 167cm Blue - 5'4 / 162cm Killer - 5'3.5 / 161cm Error - 5'1 / 155cm Ink - 4'9 / 145cm
Hello! I have read through the whole blog! It's incredible! The world-building and everything is amazing!
What is the average LV for regular citizens of each court? Do you use the LV system for your AU? How much LV do the kings have?
(I perceive the fae people as a group where murder(of humans/monsters who get too close) to be normal to an extent, if not expected(you gotta protect your family/land.))
thank you so much!!
we do use LV! the average LV is low, though in Winter the average is a bit higher. most fae don't have any LV but it's not unheard of for some of the older fae, particularly those who were involved in the war. i think anything below LV 5 is seen as understandable, and anything above that is where they start squinting and wondering what your deal is.
fae don't usually fight to kill since they have so many other ways to solve or prevent conflict, and many find the concept of solving issues with violence distasteful. it's far more impressive to solve an issue with clever wordplay-- especially if your solution ends with you gaining something. curses, deals, and general trickery are the preferred methods for fae, but if push comes to shove they can be ruthless.
Dream is LV 4 and Nightmare is LV 13.
