Team Digital Storytelling created a visually rich booklet to help ambassadors digest how to make the most of their digital stories.
Team TikTok hosted a session in the evening with 3 intergenerational ambassadors. We coached them on how to create a tiktok, what makes tiktoks go viral, and watched a few examples. We handed over the reigns and Destiny and Daniel jumped right in! Daniel had the technical skills and Destiny had some big ideas. Tamara was super flexible and wanted to learn. They landed on the “Mission Impossible” theme and sketched out a plan for their video. The collaboration was so fun! Daniel says he’ll bring up more collaboration opportunities in the next Youth Ambassador meeting, and Destiny and Tamara both seem enthusiastic about future opportunities.
Team Vax Activity Book took 40 copies to a clinic hosted at Patterson Park Public Charter School and distributed them as children came in for vaccines. Each child immediately engaged with the material, though we realized we had designed more for general outreach to prepare kids for the vaccination, the 15 minute post vax observation time was a great time for kids to have the material. In further iterations of this prototype, we might have accounted for some post-vax activities.
Several Ambassadors have submitted forms for the directory, it’s coming along! The Latinx group gave us some feedback that many from their group will need a Spanish version. We discusses what that would look like for other languages as well.
We limbered up for our last day of prototyping together and hit the ground running securing plans, printing, and checking progress with prototypes already out for testing!
We got into our prototype preps! We distributed the four ideas into two groups -
1. Vax activity book for kids - Emily + Hannah We got into detailing the activity book further, making it print appropriate and addressing further details that include activities. 2. Ambassador Directory - Emily + Kennedy We looked into the most tech appropriate options and opportunity for this solution. We considered the viability of the same on parameters like scalability. 3. Digital storytelling - Kennedy + Rhea We looked further into the toolkit and decided to create a visual heavy booklet. 4. Intergenerational Tiktok - Hanna + Rhea We evaluated the best situation to host this - virtual or in person? We took the decision to host the same in studio, and invite our peer ambassadors to participate in person! We created a testing plan for each of the prototype to detail out how the prototype will be put to test, we looked at roles and responsibilities of each person and decided measures of success. We then decided the most suited peer ambassadors for each of these activities, and reached out to them to facilitate the testing. Looking forward to share out next week!

VALUE Co-Design: Prototype Recap
Last week, we had our third co-design session with VALUE Peer Ambassadors. We showed them preliminary prototypes based on ideas we brainstormed together in previous sessions. Our goal is still to answer the following design challenge: "How might we support peer ambassadors in their engagement and outreach around COVAX?" We presented five prototypes and received truly valuable feedback from the ambassadors. Our prototypes were:
1. Intergenerational Social Media Campaign: Utilizing social media like Tik Tok, VALUE peer ambassadors of all ages can learn from one another and create content around COVAX engagement and outreach.
Feedback from PAs: Will this be effective in promoting vaccine in kids? Or is it more of a fun activity? The audience is definitely young people. This could be a fun activity for everyone involved.
2. Engagement for Kids: An interactive coloring book that addresses the concerns of children prior to being vaccinated. This book could be distributed at events, in schools, or in vaccine settings. An optional parent information page can be included.
Feedback from PAs: Children with disabilities use ‘social stories,’ in their development - may be a good idea to connect with the disability group. Teachers have asked for materials before, so this will definitely be helpful and utilized. A word search or crossword puzzle could be added for older youth, or it could be a kit with play-doh and other sensory tools for kids.
3. Increasing Collaboration Amongst Ambassadors: This ambassador directory celebrates individual ambassadors and recognizes their strengths and accomplishments. It's a way for ambassadors to connect with the general public and connect with one another.
Feedback from PAs: This will be helpful for PAs, but there was some discussion around what contact information is preferred or appropriate. Google phone numbers were suggested. A major source that people trust (like CDC) should be referred to in these materials to build trust.
4. Providing Updated and Accurate Information: An online space where ambassadors easily have access to updated and accurate COVAX information. They can access this information in the field and share with interested individuals.
Feedback from PAs: PAs need accurate info at their fingertips, so this has potential to be helpful. But it needs to be effective, and different from what they already have access to.
5. Digital Storytelling Toolkit: Building on the idea that everyone has a COVID story, this digital storytelling toolkit will enable peer ambassadors to capture and tell stories and important messaging around COVAX through digital methods, like personal and public social media accounts.
Feedback from PAs: People already have strong stories, and are excited to have the tools to share stories they create. This kit needs to be translated to Spanish. They were hesitant about which social media accounts to use: personal, VALUE, BCHD.....
We also brought up the idea of collaborating with schools more generally, since youth ages 5-11 are eligible to be vaccinated. At the end of the session, peer ambassadors voted for their two favorite prototypes, which will guide our next iterations in addition to the feedback they provided.
PBS recap Co-design session #2 and the big day for prototyping
Last week we had a great co-design with peer ambassadors, shared and inspired by numerous ideas.
The team has been hard at work designing & bringing the ideas to life with prototyping. Each had three ideas to prototype and share with the whole team, like "schools are a community - using to our advantage for outreach," "coloring books were vaccine centered to engaged kids," and "Ambassador directory." Brainstorming feedbacks like "I like...", "I wish...", and "What if..." for each prototype give us a more transparent vision to further iterate showcase prototyping to co-designer peer ambassadors.
We prototype several ideas, such as the Ambassador directory to increase collaboration amongst ambassadors, an intergenerational social media campaign to collaborate with older adults to help them reach social media, child-friendly materials to Address Vax engagement for kids, etc.
Between session 1 and 2, we simplified our approach to presenting themes and it seemed to go much more smoothly the second time. Again, providing accurate information was a draw, but unlike session 1, this team was more focused on connecting with anti-vexers and addressing vaccine engagement for kids. Is is just me or do they all need accurate information! I think we’re on to something here with designing for elements shared in multiple themes. I think the MASD team was surprised to find lack of interest in social media engagement and having physical materials - from the feedback we’ve gotten previously, we thought those would be at the top of the list! This speaks to how important it is to have ambassadors engage with the process every step of the way.
It was a bit of a bumpy start with our first session - some technical difficulties that got us a little hung up for time, but we ironed it out and moved onto a positive brainstorm session! Our first time was focused primarily on providing accurate information, but a key insight shared was the link between the major themes. It seems possible we can encompass many themes, even if we primarily focus on one or two.
This week we were joined by Estella for our Brainstorming Sessions with the Ambassadors! Estella helped us to ideate and provided excellent insight and feedback between and after our two sessions.

Design Principles + Personas
Dipping our toes into some essentials!
In groups of two, we worked on some essentials of the synthesis process:
1. Design Principles - Hannah + Rhea - After a collective brainstorming session, we narrowed down on 6 principles to guide us as we move through the project.
2. Personas - Emily + Kennedy - After a quick round of personas in class, Emily and Kennedy detailed out four more personas that are going to be used to further our discussion with peer ambassadors.
Opportunities!
After identifying themes and insights, we moved into creating opportunities.
How do we do that? We use ‘How Might We’ statements that stem from our insights to create prompts for ideation. These statements are direct translations of our insights into questions we as designers as ourselves in order to brainstorm on solutions. Some examples of what we came up with are:
1. How might we address medical trauma with acknowledge and education to communities?
2. How might we directly engage parents to increase child vax uptake?
3. How might we create connection with those starkly against the vax?
4. How might we create a more efficient access system?
