Will x Sister!reader - fighting chance
You knew Rhodes and Will were up to something, they way they were sneaking about between themselves, whispering and looking over your file constantly.
You wanted to ask one of them about it, but you just didnโt have the effort.
You were exhausted and everything was slowly becoming harder to do.
Laying on your back, you were trying to sleep but the aches all over your body was making it impossible.
Hearing a light knock on the door, you opened your eyes and looked over.
โItโs been a few days, do you want to get out?โ Rhodes asked.
You shook your head and slowly turned to lay on your side, turning yourself away from him.
Rhodes sighed and walked over, crouching down in front of your bed.
โYou havenโt left the bed in a few days, itโll be good for you.โ
โIโm.. Iโm tiredโฆโ
He sighed and nodded head head, grabbing the spare blanket from the chair, he covered you up with it.
Rhodes headed to the door before stopping, he turned to face you before he left the room. Closing the door behind you.
โHow is she?โ Will asked.
โNot good, she doesnโt want to get out of bed. Sheโs looking even worse.โ
Will nodded his head and made his way over to your room, quietly making his way in and over to the chair.
He sat down and looked at you.
You were so pale, so exhausted.
Running a hand down his face, Will buried his head in his arms as he bounced his leg up and down nervously.
Lifting his head up, he looked at the machines you were hooked up to.
Looking up at the door he watched as Charles came in.
Charles looked at you before turning back to your brother.
โIโve been asked to come talk to you, do you have a minute?โ
Will looked at your sleeping form before nodding his head.
He left the room and took a walk with the psychiatrist, leaving you to rest peacefully.
You were woken up to someone shaking you lightly, and when you finally had woken up enough to register who was stood in front of you.
โDr manningโฆ?โ You yawned out.
โI know itโs not my place to say, and Iโm sorry if Iโm pushing my boundaries but please reconsider the transplant.โ She said softly.
You sighed, bringing your hand up, you ran it through your hair before shuffling up a little so you could face her properly.
โBecause your brotherโฆ heโs tearing himself apart in order to try and help you, Rhodes it too. We all are even if you donโt see most of us. Butโฆ Will.. heโsโฆ heโs scared.โ She sighed.
โI knowโฆ butโฆ I want to be at peaceโฆ I canโt keep fighting anymoreโฆโ
โI know, but can you hold on a little longer?โ
You chuckled softly, shaking your head at her as you shuffled over, patting the small space on your bed.
โDo youโฆ know about my illness?โ
โI donโt know much about it, Will never specified anything about it only Goodwin, Rhodes and he knew about it.โ
โItโsโฆ rareโฆ no treatment. My only option is transplantโฆโ
โHow long have you been waiting?โ
โSo you havenโt always had it?โ
โIt developed when she was five.โ
Both of you looked to the door, and you watched as your brother came over, sitting next to you.
Rhodes, April and Charles followed behind him and all stood around to listen.
โWe were swimming, and (Y/N) was playing by the lake with Jay when she suddenly collapsed. We donโt know what caused it, so we took her to the hospital and they found the cells in her lungs slowly destroying themselves.โ
You looked at Will, he was starting to cry a little and you reached your hand out.
He took it and gave you a small smile.
โWe were told they didnโt know how long she would have left, but eventually her lungs would eventually just give out. Because of this they couldnโt give her the transplant until it did.โ
โWhat were you doing when it gave out?โ April asked.
โIโฆ was walking across the streetโฆโ
โThis is why you need that transplant, please. We can get you in today or tomorrow.โ Will said.
You shook your head, taking your hand from his you placed it on his shoulder, giving it a small pat.
โAnd theโฆ chances of it working?โ
Everyone stayed silent and you hummed, nodding your head.
Will stood up and started pacing.
โI wonโt just sit here and watch you die! What about dad?! Jay?!โ He yelled.
โDr Halstead.โ Charles warned.
โNo! No! Iโm not going to sit here and watch my sister die! Sheโs not in the right state of mind!โ
โIโm sorry, but sheโs fully in the right mind. If she doesnโt want the surgery thereโs nothing you can do.โ
Will kicked his chair and stormed out of the room.
Manning ran after him while April took her place.
โWhy wonโt you have it?โ
โI wantโฆ to die with dignityโฆ I donโt want to live.. on a machine if it fails..โ
โWhat about a DNR?โ Rhodes asked.
โWhat?โ April snapped.
โA DNR, if you flatline we wonโt bring you back. No machines or anything of the sort.โ
You frowned slightly and turned to the window.
You heard some whispering and everyone left aside from your doctor.
He sat on the end of your bed.
โWe donโt have to tell your brother about it.โ
Turning to face him, you took a shaky breath.
โI promise (Y/N). Just consent to the surgery and thatโs all Iโll tell him.โ
You nodded your head and he quickly got up, a huge smile on his face as he came over to the bed.
Pulling your blanket up, he tucked you in slightly and placed a hand on the side of your face.
โEverything will be fineโฆโ
You nodded and he left and you carried on staring out the window.
Eventuality you fell asleep but what woke you up was the intense pain in your chest.
You tried to cry out but it wasnโt working, you tried to reach for your panicked button but your hands werenโt working.
Will dropped his drink and cried out for help as he ran over to you.
Hands on the side of your face, he tried speaking to you but you couldnโt hear anything, you couldnโt breath and the last thing you remembered seeing was the tears falling down his face.
โConnor!โ Will screamed.
Rhodes came running around the corner and you were quickly rushed away a few seconds later.
Will grabbed Rhodes by the sleeve and made him stop.
โPleaseโฆ you need to save herโฆโ he begged.
โIโll do everything I can. Call your brother and dad.โ
He nodded and let his fellow doctor run away after you.
Heading to the waiting room, he called Jay and his dad.
Pacing the floor, it was Jay that turned up first.
โWhere is she?โ He rushed out.
โYou finally convinced her to get it?โ
โShe just suddenly changed her mind.โ
Jay frowned, he knew that wasnโt like you but he never said anything about it.
Soon enough your dad turned up as well.
โSheโs getting the transplant?โ Your dad asked.
โI.. I think soโฆโ Will whispered.
Will shook his head and started to pace once more.
Everyone came to visit when they had the chance, and soon enough they were all standing around to show their support.
It had been hours, and no one had heard anything.
โSheโll be okay Halstead.โ Goodwin said.
โItโs been way too longโฆโ Jay whispered.
โA transplant is a difficult situation, and it can take a long time.โ Choi said explained.
โNo, heโs right. Itโs been way too long.โ Will said.
He started making his way towards the door.
โYou canโt go in there Will! You know this!โ
Manning ran over and held him back.
โI need to check up on her! Sheโs my sister!โ He yelled.
โSheโs okay! Just wait!โ Maggie called.
Will fell to the floor in tears once again.
He was so close to you, you supported him and helped him get through college and med school.
You did everything you could for him, and if he lost you now he lost everything.
Another hour slipped by and finally Rhodes came out.
Immediately your dad and brothers shot up.
โHow is she?โ Your dad asked.
โThe surgery went well, but the next few days are extremely important. She canโt have visitors just yet but I can take you to her room.โ
They nodded and everyone followed the doctor to your room, looking through the window where some nurses were tending to you.
You were still so pale, but some colour had finally returned to your skin making you look a lot healthier than you did that morning.
Will let his shoulders slump and he turned to Rhodes.
โThank youโฆโ he whispered
