Stop Hating On Frodo 2018

After the curtain for intermission fell, Valeriu was quick to excuse himself from the group he was with. His cousin, Gabriel, was his usual companion when going to opera. Tonight, however, he had been roped into going with several young ladies whom he had met at a gala last weekend. It was painfully obvious that they were interested in him, no doubt for his money.
Valeriu gave a sigh of relief once he was outside the opera house. The cold air of the night was refreshing. He stepped off to the side near an alleyway to smoke.
As her body ran hotter than most, every hand she touched felt cold in comparison, but his definitely felt colder than even she was used to. A slight frown came to her lips at the feelings, but she quickly switched it with a smile as he brought her hand to his lips. “Likewise.” she smiled, taking her hand back. After another drag from the cigarette she dropped it and stepped on it to put it out. “I should head back in there before it starts again.” she explained as she walked toward the door. “It was a pleasure to meet you, and thanks for the cigarette.”
Valeriu kept a smile on his face as he watched her. Every action she made intrigued him. His cousin would frown if he were here. Dear cousin Gabriel would warn him against getting involved with yet another mysterious woman.
"The pleasure was all mine." Valeriu replied, giving her a slight bow. He watched her leave, waiting a few moments to gather his thoughts before returning to his seat. His eyes searched for her, and once he found where she sat, Valeriu opted to watch her instead of the opera for the rest of the night.
Chance Encounter
Anastasia nods, “of course, I promise. I won’t try to do anything, won’t let it get far enough for that,” she promises. She would always come to him, he was the only one she trusted, and she didn’t trust herself to take care of her thirst herself, maybe she never would. “I can wait, I want to try and hold off until dinner as much as I can,” she murmurs.
Val stood with a smile. "Come with me for a walk in the gardens." He said, offering his hand to her. "Perhaps that will distract you from your hunger until it is time for dinner."

Valeriu gave a sigh of relief once he was outside the opera house. The cold air of the night was refreshing. He stepped off to the side near an alleyway to smoke.
Eva gave him an odd look. Something about him seemed off, different. His eyes were old and after almost five hundred years, she new what old eyes looked like. “You don’t like the people you came with?” she asked with a chuckle. “See, that’s exactly why I come alone. I’m Eva, by the way.” Smiling, she held out her free hand for him to shake.
Valeriu smiled in return as he accepted her hand. The moment his skin touched hers, he felt a spark, he could tell she was more then human. Instead of a handshake, Val brought her hand to his lips. He gave a chaste kiss to the back of her hand before he let go.
“Valeriu,” He responded. “I am delighted to make you make your acquaintance.”
Chance Encounter
“Magic, that’s incredible, I can’t believe you all keep so well hidden. Thank you, you could have left me, or killed me, or done any number of things to me but you didn’t Val and…I’m grateful,” Ana murmurs softly, smiling at him still as she takes the pendant and puts it around her neck.
“You are my responsibility now,” he told her. Val helped her fasten the pendant. His lingered behind her for a moment before he took hold of one of her hands. “I aim to teach you all that I know. It’s my fault you’re like this…” Val kissed the back of her hand. “I’m going to look after you.”
Ana smiles shyly at the soft kiss, her skin still tingling from his lips, “You say responsibility, but i do not wish to be a burden to you, I wish to be helpful here, or perhaps in your bookshop, somewhere, I..” she trails off, lost in just gazing at him as she takes his other hand in hers to hold, she was not scared, she found she liked it here with him, talking with him and being close.
“I doubt you’ll be a burden.” Val spoke softly. He offered her a smile. “And I wouldn’t mind some help around the shop, if you really want to.”
“I would love to, I’ll stay out of Gabriel’s way too, I promise,” she murmurs, squeezing his hands and smiling sheepishly as she realizes how she’s staring at him, “I love to read, I didn’t have much time as a nurse but it’ll be nice to be around books again,” she murmurs, looking down instead at their hands joined together. “Do you ever get lonely here? I know it’s not only you here but I haven’t seen anyone else in the house, do you spend a lot of time here or do you stay in the city more often?” she asks curiously.
“I split my time between here and the city, mostly i stay at the shop. I suppose sometimes I do get lonely,” Val replied. “But not for very long. The others do come out and socialize. They’re just shy of new people, that’s why you haven’t seen them.”
Anastasia nods and looks up at him again. Her eyes say what she cannot get her lips to confess, that as long as she was here, he would not have to be as lonely. She squeezes his hands before moving to let go in case he wanted to pull away, “tell me more about this world, the types of beings that are a part of it,” she says softly, he seemed to have endless knowledge.
Val took one of her hands again, leading her to a widow seat. “There are many creatures, I’ve studied them over the centuries. Vampires, obviously. There are several types of werebeasts, including werewolves and kitsunes. There are witches, warlocks. The fae, elves, pixies, sprites, and fairies.” Val paused for a breath. “My personal favorite, the spriggans. They’re a type of mix between witches and tree sprites, but older then both. I have books on all of them if you’re interested. I can even share our creation myth with you.”
“I would love to hear anything you wish to tell me, you mentioned that..there was a being, a woman who is the one who turns all vampires?” Anastasia remembers, sitting with him and smiling faintly at the list of creatures he named off. She turns towards him, their knees touching but she does not pull away, biting her lip without thinking and just absorbing it all, “why are they your favorite? Are they more unique than the rest? Interesting?”
“It’s a matter of opinion, but I believe that spriggans are the most beautiful. They are the supernatural representation of nature and balance.” Val told her. He looked down at her. “As for the one I mentioned, she is our creator. She is the darkness that has existed since before this world formed. A celestial being of raw power, and the mother of all monsters.”
Val gave her a soft smile before he continued. “Vampires like you and me, who turned by her magic instead of the bite, are special. We cannot turn others unless she is involved. We are her elite, her chosen ones to fight her enemies.”“
Anastasia smiles at seeing him smile, they were special, that was a different way to look at it, “Her enemies, we are an army for her?” she asks softly, turning and looking out the window, her whole leg pressing to his thigh as she watches the landscape, “I’m not..a very good fighter,” she admits.
“No, we’re not her army.” He responded swiftly. Val frowned. “I made the decision long ago that I would never bow to her whims. She wants to turn our world into a frozen wasteland and rule it with only her creations as her subjects.”
“You will need to learn how to fight.” Val told her. “If only to defend yourself. I can teach you.”
“That sounds good, like a good idea at least, I would like if you could teach me. I’m a good student, it’s how I got to be a nurse so young,” Ana chuckles, resting a hand over his as she rests her head against the windowsill and simply watches him. “I’m glad I was the one to find you yesterday,” she mumbles.
Val hummed thoughtfully. He rested his head back against the window glass. “We will have to find a fighting style that suits you. And perhaps I’ll introduce you to some of the others tomorrow.”
Anastasia finds herself studying him, taking in every expression and smiling warmly, she just couldn’t stop smiling now. She nods and clears her throat, “I don’t mean to be rude but I..is it dinner time? I..I’m so thirsty,” she confesses softly.
Valeriu checked his pocket watch. It was a bit early, but she was still a new vampire. He stood and offered his hand to her. "It is a little early." He informed her. "Just promise that you'll always come to me when you start to feel the thirst."

Eva had decided to take a trip to the opera for the night. She went alone, as she often was so when intermission came, she felt the need to step outside for some fresh air. As she looked up at the stars, she caught the subtle scent of cigarette smoke and turned toward the smell. She’d smoked during the twenties and thirties when everyone was doing, but in an effort to blend had quit when people decided it was a disgusting habit. Moving toward the man, she smiled. “Mind if I steal one of those? The smell is just too tempting.” she chuckled softly.
Val looked up when she spoke. He looked her over as he fished a pack out of his pocket. “I don’t mind at all.” He responded, handing her a cigarette. Valeriu also offered his lighter to her. “I am surprised that a beautiful woman like you smokes. Then again, looks are deceiving, aren’t they?”
Eva chuckled and leaned forward to let him light the cigarette for her. After taking a drag and releasing the puff of smoke, she chuckled. “You don’t even know.” she chuckled. “And I try not to, but… sometimes you just can’t resist temptation.” She took another drag off the cigarette before letting it out again. “Are you enjoying the opera?”
“Well, I know all about temptation.” Val told her. An amused smile graced his lips as he looked her over once more. She was quite beautiful in that dress. He wondered briefly if men fought over her the same way women fought over him. “I am enjoying it, aside from the company I came with. This is one of my favorite shows.”
