New dolphin discovered in the Amazon surprises scientists

Researchers have discovered a new species of river dolphin from the Amazon. Writing in the journal Plos One, scientists led by Tomas Hrbek of Brazil’s Federal University of Amazonas formally describe Inia araguaiaensis, a freshwater dolphin that inhabits the Araguaia River Basin. It is the first true river dolphin discovered since 1918.

YouTube star raises $130,000 for LGBTI rights organization in two days

YouTube gamer Markiplier, aka Mark Fischbach, asked his 16million+ followers to donate to Human Rights Campaign (HRC) in the US

“A California-based YouTube star has raised a staggering $130,000 (€122,000) for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) after appealing to his followers to donate.

Markiplier, real name Mark Fischbach, launched his GoFundMe page on Monday. In less than a day, he smashed the $100,000 (€93,700) target.

Announcing its launch at the start of the week, the 27-year-old said in a statement, ‘Today we stand by our LGBTQ+ friends to ensure equality for EVERYONE! Please help us raise $100,000 for the Human Rights Campaign to ensure the future stays bright and open for all!’

It’s not the first time he has turned to his following to help do good. He previously raised over $275,000 (€257,600) for Depression and Bipolar Support, among other charities.”
