I love the kind of tired that comes from a lot of fresh air and a little too much sun
2019.
Rest.
That’s a word I thought a lot about in 2018.
One of the most profound things I read about it was a tweet from @jaysondbradley that points out how God created humans on the sixth day, followed immediately by an entire day of rest. That means our first day with God was a day of rest. In principle, we as humans work out of our rest, not the other way around.
so this morning I’m resting. I’m not going to feel guilty for sleeping in and letting my body restore itself. This new year, I want that principle to be defining- I want to rest well so that I can work well. I don’t want to work myself to exhaustion, only resting out of sheer necessity. Rest is holy, rest is trusting God and relinquishing control.
So this morning I’m resting, and I’m celebrating:
“The Life-Light was the real thing: Every person entering Life he brings into Light. He was in the world, the world was there through him, and yet the world didn’t even notice. He came to his own people, but they didn’t want him. But whoever did want him, who believed he was who he claimed and would do what he said, He made to be their true selves, their child-of-God selves….The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.”
John 1:9-14
Happy 2019!
do you know that feeling when you’re reading something and all of a sudden it becomes absolutely and undeniably clear that you’re reading one of the most beautiful books you’ll ever read in a lifetime?
