Since being back Vanya had been trying to do as many little things as she could to remind Adelina she was here to stay. Settling back into the manor that was just as much a home to her as it was to her other half. Spending more time there than she did out and about now that she was back. That morning she’d been up early and made breakfast for the two of them. Neither of them really needed actual food it so it wasn’t anything special. Some coffee with a bit of blood and some fruit with whipped cream just for something sweet. Everything was settled in Adelina’s room when she wandered into the large bathroom where Adelina was clearly midway through her morning routine. “Morning, beautiful.” @immcrtalsx​

Coming off the dance floor, Sybil made her way to the bar. Although she was probably a better dancer after taking lessons with Vanya, her confidence still wasn’t quite there yet. Alcohol helped with that part though. “Oh hey,” she smiled at the familiar face joining her. “Happy New Year’s Eve. What are you drinking?”

Having greeted a few others first Vanya hadn’t caught Sybil on the dance floor but rather just as she was stepping off. It was no matter though either way she adored the other girl and wanted to say hello since it had been some time since she’d seen her. “Hello, darling! Happy New Years Eve, indeed. I hadn’t actually picked a drink this time around. I had my eyes on you. I wanted to see how you were since I’ve been away a couple months and I’ve missed your company.”

“Mi vida!” Adeline yelled in delight as she spotted the familiar blonde. Even in the heels and the dress, she ran over to Vanya and threw her arms around her. They had been apart before. Always close at heart but not always physically in the same place and always in contact. In recent months though, it had been harder without her there. She lived in their large mansion without her and she had never felt so lonely. That was why she was so overwhelmed with happiness to see her again. While in the woman’s arms, she pressed her lips against hers in a sweet kiss, “I missed you, Vanya,” she murmured for only her to hear.

As soon as she saw Adelina coming Vanya quickened her speed to meet her in the middle. The worst part of being away had been missing her. It felt like they had been getting even closer still before she’d left, as if it was possible for the two of them after all these years. She greedily accepted the kiss and held her as close as she could. “I missed you too. I’m never ever leaving again. I promise,” Vanya answered back her voice soft as she gazed into Adelina’s eyes. “I am so glad to see you safe and sound. I worried every day I was gone. I know your strength but I knew theirs too. It’s the only reason I could even find it in myself to go at all was the hope to find a way to take theirs away. Then I realized I couldn’t just start a new year without you so I had to come back.”

“You sure you wanna dance with me, Vanya?” Erik asked, raising an eyebrow, “Either you’re inebriated, don’t care about my life choices or Nova hasn’t spoken to you yet. Or maybe you thought I was someone else,” If he felt any emotions at all, he would have been surprised.

“I’m sure I want to dance regardless of what you do,” Vanya answered breezily as she continued to move. “Since when does my mother keep me in the loop about anything? I’m afraid if there’s something you want me to know you’ll have to tell me all by yourself.”

“Oh well I love the sound of that. Just don’t tell any of the others cause you might crush their egos,” Vanya mused in response her tone matching the playfulness in his. “You are friends with my Aunt Lyssa aren’t you? I know I’ve seen your face before.”

mark arched a brow at the blonde’s declaration. “have fun i suppose - no one can stop you from dancing, but i’d be careful of the attention you attract vanya.” 

Her own brow raised in response upon hearing the words. “And what kind of attention do you think I’ll attract if I stick with what I’m doing now,” Vanya prompted a challenging tone to her voice. “I mean my last name does the attracting all on it’s own so I’d love to know what I should be watching out for in your opinion.”

“I’m sorry Vanya. I’m not in a very dance-y mood,” she explained, trying to give the girl a small smile. She didn’t want to intrude on her happiness either with what else was going on.

“All the more reason to do it anyways in my opinion but I’m not going to force you,” Vanya replied easily not really sure why Natalie didn’t want to dance but also not caring much. This was the person that acted like her Uncle Lucien was a scary monster and she didn’t hold her in high regard for that. “Maybe you need to get yourself a drink or two and then get back to me with a new answer.”

“Listen, I know why they’ve got security but they were just a little too handsy for me,” Adelina said, checking her makeup in her pocket mirror before turning to her date with a wicked smile, “I almost had to tell them that I was spoken for tonight. I only want one person getting handsy with me.”

“Well that’s not the usual security from what I recall which is probably the problem,” Vanya offered in answer as she watched Adelina checking her makeup. She already looked perfect to her but Vanya would allow her to keep checking just so she could watch Adelina while she wasn’t looking. “Although if it was that bad perhaps I should go get handsy with them? In a very unfriendly way,” she replied with a spark of mischief to her gaze. “Unfortunately then I would be all bloody and we’d probably be kicked out of the party so it may not be worth it. The choice is yours, my darling.”

That made Noah’s eyebrows hit his hairline. It wasn’t that he didn’t think Vanya was friendly, far from it in fact but the fact she was going out of her way to make time for him was pretty touching. When he realised that he had been staring dumbly for a bit too long, Noah seemed to start suddenly, stepping out of the way of the entrance so that the woman could come in. “S-sorry… I didn’t mean to be rude. I just… wasn’t expecting visitors.” He apologised, motioning for Vanya to enter. “I was just baking but you might not want to help… I’m not very good at keeping things in the bowl. I’ll probably just cover you in it too.” 

Attributing the pause to his mind running as wild as hers had been Vanya had no problem waiting. It was a bit surprising to see how he jolted back to awareness but she said nothing and merely stepped into the house. “You were nothing of the sort I assure you,” Vanya replied with a smile upon hearing his apology. “Honestly the way you’re doing it looks much more fun but if you prefer to work alone I can watch from a safe distance and we can just talk. I’m fine with anything.”

Upon being invited in, Azlee made her way towards the chair Vanya offered for her to sit in. “I’m here on behalf of your mother,” she stated as she moved the chair slightly closer to her niece before sitting down across from her. “I wouldn’t say good news. Emilia and Erik are stable; we haven’t had the opportunity to speak to either of them just yet,” she explained. “I know the mayor made a statement but you deserve more than what he told the townspeople.” It was the first time they’ve really spoken since her return to Northknot. “Although I would’ve rather spent this time catching up, I’m here with answers to your questions.”

Glad for the closeness of any family member at this point Vanya leaned towards Azlee as she spoke. It irked her that her mother couldn’t come on her own but at this point any family was better than none at all. Nodding along she had to pause to think if she had any questions seeing as her Aunt hadn’t even spoken to Erik yet. “Well,” Vanya began as she leaned back into her seat. “I suppose I just want to ask that you let me know anything else should you get any updates. I can’t really think of what else you know that I would need to know based on what you’ve said,” she continued as she furrowed her brow. “Do you have any idea what could have hurt Erik?”

“Mi vida,” Adelina said in relief, finally finding her best friend and pulling her into a tight hug. She wasn’t as close with Erik as Vanya was but the originals had become like her family. Their pain was her pain, especially Vanya’s. She held her tightly for a long time, comforting her as best she could, “Talk to me,” She whispered a she pulled away. She didn’t move far, holding her face in her hands so she could examine her face.

It didn’t surprise her that the first true comfort she felt after what happened to Erik was in the form of a mere hug from Adelina. It was exactly what she needed and Vanya melted into her arms. She could stay that way forever without even speaking a word. She also didn’t mind that Adelina did want to speak and her own hand rested atop one of the hands holding her face. “Someone has the means of seriously harming an Original Vampire. He’ll be okay this time but this is more than just murders now. They will go after anyone. Whoever they are. You have to promise me you’ll be careful, my love. Promise me I won’t ever hear that it’s you in the hospital or worse,” Vanya exclaimed the last bit spoken so softly as if she felt saying it aloud would cause that very thing. “I need you. Always.”

It was early in the evening yet Theo was in the coffee shop. He was reading a medical textbook, brushing up on the lessons he’d teach in his upcoming summer courses. The door dinged open and he briefly looked up from his reading. He sipped his coffee, eyes drifting back to his text. Someone sitting down across from him at his table caught him by surprise. He looked up, eyes narrowing on the person in front of him. “May I help you?”

After Vanya had slid into the chair across from him she was surprised to hear the formal question and she tilted her head to the side curiously. “I swore I warned you that I would find you outside of the University some day,” Vanya answered her tone playful despite her confusion at his question. “Also I saw you seemed to be still working and seeing as I was doing a bit of the same I figured we could work at the same time in the same place if you don’t mind the company.”
