Totally Custom Vapes: Ascent by DaVinci Now Customizable
Ascent Vaporizer by Da Vinci can be custom tailored to fit just about anyone's color preferences. The pic above are some examples of custom Ascents. These, and so many more, can be created using the build your own vape application that's embedded in DaVinci's website. This is a fresh idea and I don't see why anyone would buy a stock one when they could build a custom one. The snakeskin in the picture above looks really nice. Wouldn't mind having one of those myself.
But actually, there is one reason to go with a normal one instead of a custom one and that's the price. The standard Ascents are cheaper than the customized ones by about $50 and that's a good chunk of change for anyone on a tight budget. A difference that might not be worth paying if you don't really care that much about how it looks or if you're happy with the standard colors like the wood-grain and the carbon fiber ones.
When I say colors, I should probably say prints because that's what they really are. I mean, you can choose colors with this build-your-own app but you can also choose from tons of patterns and that's where I was seeing some really cool designs.
I don't know why but it doesn't seem like the app loads right on my computer. It's like really small but it still works, just a little hard to see and use. What the app does it render the vaporizer using the patterns and colors selected so you can see just what it's going to look like once it's made. They don't make them before hand so there's probably a bit of a waiting period to receive it because they've got to manufacture them on a per order basis.
It's the glass on glass vaporizer by DaVinci. It's portable. The design is the first of its kind. It doesn't have funky materials in the vapor path, just glass. That's why everyone calls it the glass portable vaporizer.
Can it vape concentrates?
Yep. It sure can. It is designed to work with dry blends, which get loaded straight into the bowl. But it's also designed to work with concentrates like waxes and liquids, which are loaded first into glass oil jars and then into the bowl. The only other one I know of with a system like this is the old Davinci Vaporizer that has those little oil canisters but the new ones are different in shape, size, and material. They're no longer metal, they're now glass. They can be capped to prevent spills but they don't need to be capped/covered. Just an option.
I don't know if I'd say it's better but I'll compare them... Pax is smaller, probably like half the size. Ascent has twice the battery life; 3-4 hours compared to 1-2 hours. Paxes don't vape concentrates, just dry stuff, but the Ascents do. Pax has 3 temps, Ascent has a range of 0-430F. Pax must be docked onto the charging station to recharge and can't be used while recharging, but the Ascents just plug-in and can be used while they're charging.
Compared to the Firefly...
They're about the same size, more or less. Firefly is heavy-duty and thus the heavier of the two. Firefly heats up faster, but it only has one temperature whereas the Ascent has a wide range of temperatures. Firefly vaporizers are only meant for dry tobacco and the bowl doesn't fit much where Ascent can vape it all and has a pretty big bowl for a portable which holds more than the Firefly. The vapor pathway is made out of some kind of metal with the Fireflies which isn't a bad thing if you don't mind a steely-taste, where the Ascent's vapor path is all glass and doesn't noticeably distort the taste of the vapor.
These two, Pax and Firefly, are good comparisons because they were both released in recent times and they're both portables. They all seem to have their pros and cons. I think the Firefly is a good choice for people that just want one that heats up quick and the Pax is good for anyone that's looking for a small one that doesn't take up a lot of pocket space.
I really could use one of these, a "blue snakeskin" one, if anyone is wondering what to get me for Christmas!
