Apparently there’s a “kids shouldn’t be allowed in grocery stores” thing being spread on TikTok because they might scream or run around and look yeah that’s annoying but at a certain point you’ve gotta just put up with kids being a little annoying in public. Sure the kid pouring milk in the isles is the fault of a shitty parent and should be asked to leave, but a single mom with an otherwise controlled by crying toddler isn’t doing anything wrong. Also, is a lot of the Internet just, unclear on the thing where you learn how to do stuff by doing it? You know what you get if you don't let toddlers into the grocery store? School age kids who don't know how to behave in the grocery store, which is worse. Don't let them in either? Teenagers who don't know how to behave in the grocery store, which is much worse. Just ban all minors from the grocery store? Now you have adults who don't know how to behave in the grocery store, and at that point we may as well not bother with society.

How to greet a cashier and complete your transaction nicely

How to pay for things in a store

Most of this they are learning just by following and watching their adult(s). They're also, and this is especially important for families who don't take much public transit, getting to see a broader cross section of people than most other age appropriate activities will readily show them. The only other public place of this sort that a toddler might routinely go is the library, which is different in ways that are potentially instructive if you have only existed for 30 months.

After her water broke early, doctors told Fatima Goines to prepare for her newborn’s death.

Goines was 22 weeks into her pregnancy, just past the halfway mark. Doctors at Methodist Hospital in suburban Minneapolis said they couldn’t save such a premature baby and that no hospital could. They told her that once the baby girl was born, Goines could hold her until the infant died.

Goines didn’t want to give up. She checked herself out of Methodist Hospital and, on the recommendation of a fellow mom on Facebook, went to a birthing center connected to Children’s Minnesota hospital, 7 miles away from Methodist. After Goines gave birth, doctors there immediately intubated the baby to help her breathe and placed her in an incubator.

Me’Lonii is now a healthy 4-year-old, and has surpassed all the developmental milestones for her age. “She’s doing wonderfully well,” said Dr. Thomas George, who directs the Children’s Minnesota neonatal intensive care unit.

Should she be allowed to kill him?"

This may seem like an absurd question, but that is precisely the point. If unborn children are as human as toddlers, then it should be just as absurd to ask the question, "Imagine I have a poor pregnant woman who feels as though she cannot care for another child; should she be allowed to have an abortion?" The only difference is the age of the child who is being killed. So here's the pattern:

Pro-choicer: Abortion should be legal for [insert off-topic reason].

Pro-lifer: Imagine I have a two-year-old, and his mother [insert same off-topic reason]. Should she be allowed to kill him?

Most people say it would be wrong to kill a two-year-old in this situation. It's important to resist the temptation to say this in response: "Obviously, if it's wrong for a woman to kill her two-year-old for this reason, then she shouldn't be allowed to kill her unborn child for this reason." We want the other person to come to that realization for himself. That's why, no matter how absurd it sounds, just ask the person if the reason women need legal abortion (poverty, choice, women's rights, etc.) would also be a good reason to kill a two-year-old.

Then be quiet.

Just let the question hang in the air until the person responds.”

And if the baby was allowed to die in this case the precedent would be awful because now every woman in the nation would have to worry that if something happened to them while pregnant their baby would be refused medical care.

The issue with the "my right to bodily autonomy" argument is that bodily autonomy doesn't exist in the US.

Men are forced to risk their lives and go through harsh training if they're drafted into war

Companies and businesses require you to get a vaccine for things

Many drugs are illegal to put into your body

Alcohol is illegal for those under 21

The argument fails to hold up for this reason. You dont HAVE bodily autonomy. Sometimes that's a good thing because sometimes we are humans who make idiotic and dangerous decisions about our bodies. It's very circumstantial.

Also the baby's body isn't your body, but thats a separate argument I suppose.

Geez... I was just doing some reading on the internet and got a punch in the gut.

This started because I saw a post in a womb twin survivor support group where someone had posted and was describing how they were born with a pin hole in their spine, which sounded very similar to my own diagnosis of Spina Bifida Occulta.

Anyway, certain health problems are more common in Vanishing Twin Survivors, and I thought I remembered that Spina Bifida was one of them, so I was looking it up to see if I was remembering correctly.

As I'm scrolling, one link said, "Spina Bifida a vanishing nightmare." So I clicked on it, and it was a quick thing about how numbers were going down, and they weren't sure why, but part was attributed to terminating affected pregnancies. The conclusion was that if they continued "preventative measures" i.e. termination, Spina Bifida could disappear. Of course! The solution to this health problem isn't to work on an *actual* cure or improve treatments... it's to just kill the people who have it. That will solve everything.

I'm just... I don't even know why I'm surprised. They wanted to kill me then. Of course, they would want to kill me if I was born today. I don't know why I would expect anything else... but it made me so... sad.

You know... I had an older cousin who had a much more severe case of Spina Bifida than I do. And when I say older, I mean he was like my parents' age. He was worse off than me, but he was always smiling. He was always joking with people. He volunteered his time to his local church, he stood by his principals, he helped out people in need without ever asking anything in return... and when he died, the funeral home was packed. There was a line around the building of people waiting to say their goodbyes, and it kept up the entire visitation. People were parked way down the road and had to walk to get there. My cousin was a light in people's lives.

But if he had been born right now, people would just weigh his life based on his disability and determine that he should be killed before his light could reach anyone. But sure... we can eliminate this disorder by killing the people who have it. It's disgusting that people think that way. There's no other word for it.

Abortion dehumanizes people for reasons that don't make any sense and reduces a person to a product where if it is defective, it must be binned. And it always goes back to my own argument that I know so many people who are as healthy as horses yet do nothing with their lives except mooch off of others. Moreover, what about people who become handicapped later in life due to disease or accidents? Are we going to take up euthanizing them just because their life is going to get more challenging?

Suffering is a part of life, but it only has as much power as you give it and it is the individual's call to make, not any one else's. Who are we to judge who should live and who is better off dead?

“Can you define woman without excluding any woman?” Yes, I can, actually.

A woman is a person born with at least one X chromosome and with the absence of a Y chromosome.

It’s fairly simple. People with Turner’s syndrome (XO) are ALWAYS female, and people with Klinefelter’s syndrome (XXY) are ALWAYS male, because the presence of the Y chromosome makes them male. And this isn’t my opinion by the way, this is medical literature. We’re also talking about sex here, not gender. This includes any variation of chromosomes - for example, the extremely rare genetic disorder, XXXYY, people with this disorder are ALWAYS MALE, even though they have more than one (and two!) X chromosomes, because the presence of the Y chromosome makes you male.

I give any radfems and/or TERFs the right to use this explanation whenever some TRA trues to pull the “but what about (extremely rare genetic disorder) or (someone with no ovaries, a hysterectomy, etc). Because you don’t really need to define “woman” by external genitalia or even anatomy, because there’s one thing that all women have, no matter what. And it’s at least one X chromosome, and no Y chromosome.
