Saw a cute little post abt hypnos sharing the sage wisdom that she need not earn love (as in, she deserves to be loved without some sort of prerequisite degree of usefulness being met) and for as nice as it is— that is entirely antithetical to his upbringing 😂

Like, of the whole cast— of both games— if there is any character who does on a base level believe affection is something to be earned and you do in fact need to ‘deserve’ love for it be be granted, it is the disgraced child of the notoriously cold, distant and ‘not loving’ Nyx: Hypnos . His entire relationship with Mel is sweet, but shallow (imo) as it fails to really delve into what a character raised as he was would do with a situation such as this one. With a person such as Mel.

For as much as I adore “Mel and hypnos family who love each other and nothing can hurt them!!” It feels distinctly ooc for hypnos to tell her affection is not something one must work tirelessly for. Surely, Hypnos must think the onus of receiving love, acceptance and comfort is on YOU— not the people withholding it from it lmao.

I love that Hypnos and Melinoe have very sweet queer-platonic relationships, and it is really awesome that supergiant did this!!!! ... but as a Hypnos devotee since the first game, hearing "I love you" from him knowing full well he isn't romancable feel like scratching the wound I had for all this time :( And - c'mon. Even if you have a vision and not letting us romance him, not being able to gift him anything at all is kind of a dick move.

I haven’t played the update and truthfully I won’t get around to it for a few hours, but I assure you nothing they’ve added for Hypnos makes up for the fact they slapped the ‘done’ sticker on a fundementally unfinished and unsatisfying ending. I can appreciate what’s being done now, kinda, and begrudgingly respect the insistence of continuing to improve the game beyond what is ‘expected’ of you as a development team— but my love for the game was lost pretty considerably with how they handled things the first time (and broadly how they’ve handled their characters across the cast, not just sleepy).

If you’ve never played hades 2, you may pick it up now and get a competent story arc. It’s hard to say, I can’t understand the pov of someone who wasn’t following the whole thing from conception. But regardless of following it or not, how the writing ‘team’ has handled the game is incredibly disappointing. I may or may not continue to make content for the game (I am deeply in love with it on a conceptual level, if nothing else) but idk I just felt like ranting a bit. It sucks seeing them only now (and only half heartedly imo) put work into Hypnos. Like they could’ve BEEN doing this. But didn’t. Why?
