Talking about culture in dog breeding with fellow norwegians lately and figuring I don't mind 4 being a maximum litter number on a bitch, granted she's an easy birther of reasonably sized (not too big) litters and bounces back well. And that is a highly individual thing. And obvs I come from a breed where the litter average is 3.5 and complications are relatively rare.
What I've come to be a little more bothered about is having litters on bitches that are 2yo (and younger - but thats a full dealbreaker for me) - I don't feel like either of our dogs have seemed like full adults until ~3? Troj is 3 now and shes really come into herself in the past year, I can't imagine her with puppies at 2.
I'm putting this in a reblog incase you want the stats to see from here as well.

Hello, we've been away for a very long time. I want this to be a happy place. Dogs are doing mostly well. Human not so much, but there is hope in the future.
Hi, we have a white-tuxedoed, red dappled, longhaired boy ourselves. All 4 paws are white, also. Wagner is registered, but I was wondering if the white paws and chest indicate an English Cream lineage?
I am not quite sure on the exact genetics of the American and British colors, but cream is a base color like red or chocolate. Being a base color i do not think it usually would influence the white paws/boots and that it probably caused by another gene. It sounds like your boy is a red dachshund which would be his base color and he has a pattern (dapple) which is also modified by this tuxedo? (I assume a piebald gene) that would cover his base. The white paws are probably related to that gene.
Small update, Otto is 2 today and the boys all celebrated with some wrestling.
(puts dachshunds in the terrier group when you're not looking)
(dog breed divided into 3 size categories based on their chest circumference determining which animal's burrows they're best suited for going into)
oh of course it's a hound 😉😉
KC and AKC putting Dachses in Hound:
I’m coming after you, hounds can be short. XD
Dachshunds are weird, so weird that yes they work underground, but they also scent and drive prey like a normal hound. This is why the FCI still classifies them in their own group even though they display the traits of both hounds and terriers. They are still closer related to hounds than to terriers, wirehairs may be the exception on the theory that smooths were possibly crossed to schnauzers or terrier types to create the hair variety. Long hairs were believed to be crossed with spaniels(something probably Kooikerhondje like)
Alpine Dachsbracke an ancestor of the modern dachshund, is in well group 6 the HOUND group.
Drevers are also in group 6.
Slovakian hounds are also short
Westphalian Dachsbracke
Is this a thing now in flyball? Is this dog a malinois x whippet cross? It has every bit of energy and drive you would expect. Holy heck.
If your dog had a voice of a character, who would they be? Otto is Homestar from Homestar runner.
I'm sorry, the Spart is ALMOST 9????? That's illegal. She looks really young!!

I have been posting pics of my dogs on my main for a while but wanted to branch out and officially join dogblr so... Hi 👋 I own officially one dachshund but have been taking care of two, and my mom breeds them so you'll see even more.
Pictured are Jo (left) and Sugar Rush (right).
welcome to dogblr and the dachshund club ;)
We went to Helsinki for the Helsinki Winner show, was a long nice day and came home with an EXC. (He was pooped for our 4 hour train ride home)
Show me working line vs show line dogs
or any other lines a breed may have
This isn’t exactly an exact comparison. We have Tristan, from a long line of American cocker spaniel conformation grand champions.
And we have Guinevere, from a long line of working English cocker spaniel field trial champions.
I clip Tristan except for his ears, tail, and white head stripe, otherwise he would grow out a voluminous American cocker skirt and that weird head poof that makes American cocker muzzles look so much smaller than they really are, and the stops more exaggerated.
Guinevere has all her feathers.
Tristan is rounder in the barrel, wider in the skull, and shorter/wider in the muzzle. His earflaps are longer and wider. He has more excess loose lip.
Show line:
Working line:
Both dogs pictured at approx 11 months old. Note the differences in body structure, the working line is built much lighter, and has more ground clearance.
Gravity - The show line dog’s center of gravity is very low and forward into his chest. The working line’s center of gravity is more central in the back.
Movement - The show line bares its weight drive in its front assembly, this allows deep weighted acceleration and better digging. The working line bares its weight drive in its back assembly, this allows for extremely tight cornering.
Hair type - show line has excessively dense hair including a deep undercoat with silky top layers, working line has silky top layer with almost non existent undercoat.
I have honestly not tested them yet to see who is faster but should make for an interesting spring. Weight at photos approx 5.6kg working, 5,8kg show.
neck working 21cm
neck show 27cm
back length working 37 cm
back length show 40/41 cm
