I want to be heard (doesnât speak) I want to be understood (doesnât explain) I want to be seen (acts like if a missing person was right in front of everybody)

Wilder and Diamond were precise writers. But when it came time to Some Like It Hotâs punch line, they were absolutely indecisive. They got as far as Lemmon ripping off his wig and saying he canât marry Osgood Fielding III because, âIâm a man.â What comes next? Diamond suggested âNobodyâs perfect,â and Wilder said to keep it in so they could send the script to the mimeographer. But then they were really going to settle it. âWe have a whole week to think about it,â Wilder said. âWe thought about it all week. Neither of us could come up with anything better, so we shot that line, still not entirely satisfied.â Viewers felt entirely differently. âThe audience just exploded,â Wilder said. âThat line got one of the biggest laughs Iâve ever heard in the theater. But we just hadnât trusted it when we wrote it; we just didnât see it. âNobodyâs perfect.â The line had come too easily, just popped out.â
