when the comment about the lion’s cage was made, jude couldn’t help but chuckle lowly–– not because she disagreed, but because even knowing so wasn’t enough to stop her from possibly making the worst decision of her life. bad decisions were pretty much a recurring theme in her life after all, especially when it came to romance. “ oh i know, ” she confirmed easily, “ but maybe i enjoy the danger. ” her heart was still pounding, adrenaline flooding her veins at the redhead’s proximity. jude felt a shudder pass through her body at the woman’s proclamation. love, i’m far worse. the words echoed in her mind, and truth be told it was making her feel a little dizzy, but in the best way.
“ verbal agreements are binding, beautiful. all you have to do is say yes. ” and then she was being pulled ever closer, which hardly seemed possible considering how close they’d been standing in the first place, but suddenly there was barely a hair’s breadth of distance between them and jude all but forgot how to breathe. the irony of the situation wasn’t missed –– usually she was the one in this stranger’s place, dangling the promise of a kiss in front of whoever it was she had her sights on but never delivering. leave them wanting more and they’ll fall right into the palm of your hand. it was a trick she was familiar with, but she had never been on the receiving end of it. and fuck, it was working. despite fully knowing that she was not going to kiss her, it took considerable effort to swallow the disappointment that rushed into her lungs with her next breath as the redhead pulled away.
willing her heart to still, jude nodded. she took the first step towards the living quarters, her body moving with grace and confidence that had been hastily pulled together after the almost-kiss. just as they approached the wing where all the bedrooms were, jude pulled to a sudden stop, swivelling around to face her as-of-yet nameless companion.
“ listen, as thrilling as that earlier… exchange was, i just want you to know that if that’s how all our future interactions are going to play out then i will literally die of cardiac arrest. ” there was a twist to her lips as she spoke, something akin to a smile but not quite. “ maybe we should slow down a little. hi, i’m jude, ” she introduced as she held out a hand, blinking when she noticed that the lollipop was still in her grip. “ i believe that’s yours. you can have it back if you want, i’m not really fond of artificial cherry. ” except maybe if it’s on your lips. the thought came unbidden, and jude almost groaned out loud. well this was going to be one hell of a ride.
HEARING THE RATHER AUDACIOUS proclamation, i enjoy danger, impressed verona -- and that was not an emotion she felt on a normal basis. she could feel a certain sense of allure; the woman was endearing, that much ro knew. regardless, these feelings came as an inconvenience to her. was she enthralled by the woman? her heart would say yes but it would take a fifteen minute beating from her brain if it continued to feel such explicit emotions. ro would admit the brunette was captivating but she wouldn’t let herself be wrapped around the woman’s fingers.
ro’s eyes carefully analyzed the brunette’s back, watching the way her body moved elegantly up the stairs. verona couldn’t help but feel rather disappointed that the woman was able to contain such composure despite their proximity earlier on. she wanted to make her CRACK. it took an effort not to take the stranger’s hand and pull it down to let their lips lock. she wasn’t sure if she wanted the action because of the amusement which would follow or because of the electricity she felt earlier on still tingling her skin. in any case, her brain kept her in check.
a laugh escaped through ro’s lips, despite her efforts for it not to. it was most likely the first genuine smile verona showed since she got here. she’s fucking cute. she admitted, finding that ro did indeed crack some part of the girl she would come to know as jude. there are very few people in the world who’d admit that their hearts were beating rapidly due to encounters, and verona couldn’t help but find that BEGUILING. “ slow? babe, you haven’t even seen FAST yet.”
ro took the lollipop from her hands and gave the sugary sweet a slight peck, eyes locked onto jude. a symbolic meaning, perhaps. “it’s in my utmost pleasure to meet you. verona, ro, or the bitch in apartment twenty-three. choose your fighter,” she informed, her fingers pushing jude’s hair back behind her ears.
before waiting for her companion to reply, she scanned the bedroom numbers which were embossed on gold plating. finding the number which marked her stay, the staccato beat of high heel shoes echoed off of marble floors. she opened up the door, it creaking underneath its screws. the realization that verona would be stuck here for a grand amount of time hit her fast. AND SHE DID NOT LIKE IT. “i prefer hell over this but hey, at least i got YOU.”
