“There’s a first time for everything.” Aesir pointed out, smiling as Claudia’s forehead came to rest against his own. At her word, a wide and excited smile stretched its way over his face and he squeezed her gently, kissing her again in turn. “I love you too.” His hands moved from their position, unravelling from around the woman and settling on her hips, his palms moving up and down her body gracefully. “I cannot wait.”

“Not with you.” She wouldn’t back down when it came to him. They were partners, equal halves of a whole. Claudia kissed him again, her hands holding him and tugging him as close as she could because any distance between them was too much. “I can’t wait.” She emphasized. Her heavy eyes drooped, and though she was happy she was too filled with sleep to be excited for any longer.

“Yeah being a prince is so boring you know?” He asked as he closed the book his own smile giving him away. “I’m hoping with having four parents and a world full of aunts and uncles they’ll have a good head on their shoulders.”

Claudia laughed. “Oh, I’m sure.” She shifts in her seat. “Believe me, Aesir and I have already started spoiling the little thing. Have you thought of any names?”

His arms naturally wrapped around her, holding her tightly to his chest, his head resting against the pillow underneath him. Having her at such a close proximity was a luxury he was still growing used to. Aesir thought about her words, not wanting to rush ahead in what was obviously a large decision in their life. 

“I think I’ve said what I want to say. I’m not sure if you have made your decision entirely, but I think we should discuss what happens next. Whether we go to sleep and carry on as if this discussion never happened. Or make, changes.” By changes he was suggesting that both of them cease to continue using birth control, but that was something that he knew neither one of them could do without the full support of the other.

She caressed his face, bringing him closer so that their foreheads rested together. “When have I ever been the person to back down and forget?” The taunt in her voice caught as she was thinking about the possibilities. “Yes.” She said finally, looking at him before she kissed him. “If we’re doing this, then we’re doing it right. I love you so much.” Claudia settled down in the covers, smiling at the man she’d be willing to risk everything for.

Aesir nodded, watching as Claudia rose from her position next to him, his eyes following her body, entranced. “I’ll be there in five.” He replied softly, turning his attention to the cooling water. He washed his hair quickly before exiting it, wrapping a towel loosely around his hips. His bedroom was their sanctuary, a collection of fur blankets they held their secrets. And wrapped amongst them was the love of his life. 

Using the towel, Aesir dried himself off before he slipped into bed next to Claudia. Somewhere between leaving the bathtub and reaching the bed, his body had awoken and even though sleep had been previously calling to him, now so the darkness outside. 

“Did you want to continue this topic tomorrow my darling?”

Claudia nodded and slipped into the room. She discarded her robe over the edge of a chair in his room, then climbing into his bed and under the various blankets and sheets that adorned it. She watched him carefully from her place in their bed, her eyes following the edges of his skin.

When her crawled in next to her she wasted no time in wrapping her body around his. She’d never get use to having him always at her fingertips. “No, what more do you want to say?” The sooner it was all out the sooner they could figure out a plan to move forward.

They were both dancing on the edge of sleep and he could tell, but they were also both so absorbed in the depth of the conversation that they were having, that he also knew he couldn’t let them go to sleep until they’d come to a conclusion.

“Then I want to do it for us.” He smiled, his eyes closing as she ran her fingers through his hair, sighing happily. “I want- I want both of us to be happy making a decision of our own accord. There are only a few things we’ll get to do that will be influenced by only our decisions. Having a baby will be one of them.” 

“I know,” Claudia pulled her hands away, using the edge of the bath to bring herself to stand. She was tired, and in that she was finding herself pulled to the comfort of fur blankets she had almost entirely forced Aesir to bring along. “We’ll do it for us. No one can control our bodies.” She leaned down to kiss his head. “No one can control how much I desire you,” another kiss. “and no one will keep me from having your children the second I get a chance to jump you.”

With that she kissed his temple once more. “I’m heading to bed. Your blankets are calling my name and who am I to deny them?” She teased, her hand slipping from his face before she turned on her heel to leave.

Claudia’s grin translated itself into Aesir’s own happiness and he returned it happily, readying himself to make a joke in return, but then she continued speaking. She was confessing to something that deep in Aesir’s heart, he already knew. He knew that Claudia had been engaged to marry someone else as he had and after hearing how insistent her parents had been at her marrying him after the fact, he had gathered his suspicions from the evidence available to him. 

And he’d been proud of her. 

“I had a feeling you’d done something like that.” He smiled, lifting his chin to kiss the tip of her nose. “I’m proud of you for it.”

He was silent for a moment longer, letting her words resonate within him before he finally spoke again. “So you get it. You get this feeling of needing to do something because I need you. I need you in my life and no one can take you from me. And I need to do this for you.“

Claudia removes her hand from his, wet fingers running through his soaked hair while her eyes scan the look on his face. She wasn’t proud of what she had done and didn’t tell him before for the simple fact that she was afraid. If he had been someone else he might have thought she was insane for what she had done for him.

Proud.

It was a word she hadn’t expected to hear over that. “You don’t have to though, Aesir you don’t have to do anything like that for me. You already do so much for me and this--it should be for you too.” Her fingers trail the angles of his face. “It’s us from now on.”

“Of course.” At first he stayed staring at their hands, focusing on the way their fingers interlocked before he turned to face Claudia. He lay his head back against the smooth porcelain of the tub, meeting her eyes in a relaxed, though serious, state. 

“We have both wanted children for a very long time. Nearly as long as we’ve wanted to be married to each other.” There wasn’t really a point in reminding her of their opinions towards children, especially a future with children, but it was a valid starting point. “So we both knew it was always going to be in our future. But personally, and you may disagree with me on this, I’m tired of having everything planned out for me.” 

He shifted in the water, pressing his left shoulder deeper under the surface into the warmth. “Everything from tomorrow to the day we die, and even a week after we die is planned out for us. And maybe it’s because I jumped on a plane and flew here, completely defying orders from my parents to propose to you. But I’m feeling rebellious and I’m over following the structure of our lives that everyone else has decided for us.”

She had figured he would have thought her statement a joke, but as he began to talk it out she felt her face grow warm. If her heart could have done somersaults she was certain it would have. She understood his frustration. She had done everything in her power to change the course of her life plans, and that was exactly how she had gotten here.

Even with sleep clouding her eyes she still managed a grin, her younger more light-hearted self showing through. “Rebellion through pregnancy? Is that what the future king of Canada is doing?” She teased, but even still became serious once more. “I know what you’re saying. I understand how you’re feeling. I--” She’d been holding back information, keeping him in the dark. “I was nearly married off to the highest bidder, and only bought time for myself through...circumstances I am not proud of.”

Claudia leans forward to kiss his face. “You’re my world, and I did what I had to do to have you. I need you. I couldn’t let them take you away.”

“Oh no I’m going to be a doctor,” He teased looking up at the woman knowing who she was. “It’s interesting how they develop over time. Their brains are just fascinating and it shows how important it is to start the day you know about them.”

“A doctor? How ambitious.” She took a seat near him, tilting her head to look at the book. “Babies are quite amazing. With the right nurturing and guidance they become lovely little beings.”

Andras was never a book person but the farther in the pregnancy that Astrid became the more he knew he needed to read. “Did you know it takes months until the baby is going to be able to see more than a few feet ahead of them?”

“Really?” Claudia had tried spending more time away from all the baby-talk, but when she saw Andras reading alone she couldn’t help her curiosity in wanting to finally meet him. “That’s really interesting. Studying to become a nurse?” She joked.

guglielmo: i was being serious.

guglielmo: soppy and sad? or comedy? i can stand the latter.

claudia: I think I'm annoying them, is that better?

claudia: I have a range of comedy. I also have popcorn.

guglielmo: over you or under you?

guglielmo: but what movies are we talking about?

claudia: ha ha ha, how funny

claudia: most of what I own is romance but I'm open to suggestions.

claudia: I think my fiancee and my future sister in law are over me

“I could really use some sister time if I’m being completely honest with you, Claudia,” She admitted to her knowing that she could always use the time it was just a matter of them both having the time. “I honestly think that I’m going to end up falling in love with him. I never thought that I would get to have an epic love story and for the first time I think that maybe I can. It’s scary and amazing and everything else,” she truly never did believe that she would feel love for more than her family and yet he snuck into her heart. “I know that you and Aesir believe I deserve the entire world and for some reason so does Emmanuel. He brings me flowers and chocolates just because he’s coming to see me. But he is really handsome and I think he’ll be a great kisser.”

“Good, because I can too.” Claudia pays close attention to the way the girl looks when she’s talking about her fiancee and the way her voice sounds. She’s happy that her girl is happy. “I can’t wait to see how beautiful you’ll look when you get married.” From the sound of it Claudia had little to worry about when it came to Emmanuel, and she was glad for that because Aesir had practically chained her down to get her to stay away from scary the poor guy off. “You think? No kissing yet?”

“People already are jealous. Do you know how beautiful my wife is?” He laughed, squeezing her hand through the water, but his mind stayed on her words. 

One day.

Why not today? Surely bringing a baby into his life wouldn’t mend the cracks forming with Scarlet, those would have to be fixed by him and him alone, but it was something that he knew they both greatly desired. Every part of Aesir’s life had been planned to a T, the only improvised lines in his script were the day he was shot, and when he refused orders and proposed to Claudia. Both instances lead him to this moment. 

“Why did we decide to wait?” He asked softly, his mind reaching back to find a legitimate answer. He found it before she could speak and answered his own question. “Because it would look bad to have a baby before the wedding.”

Aesir was quiet for a moment longer, staring at their fingers interlocking in the water, half in, half out. At a turning point between the air and the water.

“What if I told you that I don’t want to wait anymore?”

“As they should be.” Claudia had always been raised to see herself above others, royals especially. Her mother had raised her with more confidence than any other part of a human being.

Her head rested against the tub, eyes falling shut as she allowed the silence to sink through her bones. The only thing dragging her back being his words. “Hm?” Her eyes stayed shut. “Rhetorical questions again?” Claudia yawned through the words. She couldn’t think of any other reason aside from their marital state to have kept themselves from starting a family, but media and press would have ran with the story to the hills.

“What?” Claudia turned her head to look at him, just barely peeking at him through her thick lashes. “Then we should talk about it. Like the adult couple that we are.” She was reasonable, wanted children more than most women her age, but she wouldn’t rush into things. Not when they were both so clearly influenced by the amount of children around them.
