#WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THAT MORE #he constantly told people he was fine until he couldn’t anymore #and still then went out of his way to convince them he could go to mt silver on his own.#which he COULD but that’s crazy #anyway. he only ever admitted to his joints being numb he never really mentioned pain even in his narration #internal dialogue. whatever #but when green grabs his wrist here he’s obviously in pain this was insane #god fuck miracle cures btw #Sabrina was up there every day for a YEAR and it was just her one wrist and it took her that long to heal #what do you MEAN red was up there for max 2 weeks (this is INCLUDING his trip with gold —#—not including it he was only in the hot springs for what a few hours?)#and it magically made him perfectly fine? absolutely not #I wish we could’ve seen them post-emerald arc #love emerald but personally I do think red threw their battle so emerald could win BUT mostly bc after the adrenaline crashed from the big #fight at the battle frontier that he realized the whole petrification thing triggered the pain/numbness to come back lol #but anyway I digress #maybe I’ll write that fic one day who knows #(probably not)

pokespe swsh but we find out leon is red’s friend from a far away region who gave him the charizard poster years ago when they were just kids winning pokemon leagues at stupidly young ages (red has been trying to convince leon that chairman rose doesn’t have his best interest at heart for years but leon thinks red is just biased because like half of the authority figures in the kanto pokemon league have tried to murder him. unfortunately they’re both right)

why is champion leon wandering around kanto’s route one? dunno, he must’ve gotten lost. got on the wrong flight. took the wrong bus. what do you mean, he’s with champion red being chased by beedrill through viridian forest? don’t worry about it, even if they can’t handle themselves—which they can—red knows somebody in the forest who will calm the beedrill down. red also knows a guy in viridian with a porygon who likes to hack things and a girl that could talk him into it who doesn’t always care about laws, so i’d advise you don’t go posting that video on your social media. no, you didn’t see champion leon and the new viridian gym leader gushing over how cool charizard is; why would leon even be in kanto in the first place when he’s supposed to be protecting galar’s future? cmon, man, think about it.

#rose rigs the battles btw. but red & leon know this which is why red’s friends are in charge of fixing that #unfortunately they’re dexholders so naturally it ends with thousands of dollars in stadium repair and therapy bills #but like leon can’t afford to lose and red doesn’t feel the need to get an answer if he or leon are #better battlers—so they don’t really care if their stupid rigged battles get interrupted #anyway in this au nemona is also their age bc also a kid champion and they go on ‘training trips’ together #aka ‘get leon out of the spotlight for a bit’ trips #gold gets mad when those two crash training sessions on mt silver with him and red #but he’s learning a lot for a kid who isn’t into competitive battle lol #and no one is allowed up there without express permission from a league champion so rose can’t track them down #so mt silver is often where they end up lol #so like ok I’m throwing nemona in just for fun bc I haven’t touched the SV manga & probably won’t and also I think she’s a fun third to thi #apparent trio but genuinely being a kid champion must suck. just look at X #he’d be in the group if he wasn’t canonically like ten years younger than red #but I think he and leon could have quite a bit in common if you tried hard enough #the games!red & leon & manga!x venn diagram my beloved

something something yellow and gold being the only two of the original ten dexholders who can’t potentially mega evolve their starters but were able to bring out more power from a member of the pikachu line than even red seemingly could. and he’s the pikachu guy. so maybe it doesn’t matter but it doesn’t quite seem fair does it?

So. I have a lot of feelings about red and his role of "the fighter" and how he percieves and perpetuates violence. The Thing He Is Best At has always been something that seemingly conflicts with his personality and views. Like ok. the most important trait that red has, to me, is kindness. That is above all else his Defining trait. like yes he's extremely talented at pokemon battling and is extremely creative with his solutions in those situations but he does not fight out of malice or contempt or to exert power. He primarily does it for the sake of 1. finding his own purpose 2. for the sake of other people. Hear me out. When we first see Red he is gloating to some kids in pallet town about how hes the best catcher/battler around. He's clearly interested in their attention and adoration of him in stark contrast to when he was bullied in his youth. His strength is one of the only things people actively admire about him. He is a reflection of how other people percieve him and project their ideals onto him. He wants a place to Belong, and so he continues fighting and fighting, constantly looking for both validation from his peers and authority figures. But once he atains the champion spot. The one pinnacle of success in his area? It. becomes less real. He's valued more by his power and strength than as an actual human being. People assume (yellow arc for instance) that nothing can keep him down for long. That he's essentially invincible. And to learn that he isnt, that he is as breakable and malleable as the rest of humanity, is an inconceivable notion. And I think around FRLG he starts to question how much his worth relies on other people's perception of his power.

He is a kind kind person, but the world doesn't let him express that in any other way except for violence.

#idk if I’ve reblogged this yet #but god #I have so many feelings about this as well #they put a sixth grader on a pedestal and said your personality is battler #is FIGHTER (in some translations)#and he is eleven years old. of course he’s going to think that’s all he’s worth.#so when he can’t—when FRLG happens and he loses and everyone blames him—of course he will not recover from that in a healthy way #and I could go on. in GSC when he’s unable to battle because of his injuries—from an unfair loss which I’m sure is grating on him anyway for #so many reasons—causes him to be unable to follow up on a promise (which his OTHER whole thing is keeping his word) of course it would eat #him alive #anyway. tldr I think red has a MASSIVE crashout offscreen post-emerald arc #and even by the time of ORAS he’s still trying to claw his way back into whatever he thinks he can do to help #but honestly. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again when I talk about red #what do you do after you peak?#how do you answer what you want to be when you grow up if you reached that dream at eleven years old?#where does red go from here if the only options are down?#(and suddenly it becomes clear why games!red climbed that mountain all the way to the summit)#anyway tldr been thinking about putting red and leon in a venn diagram lol
