Chris Brown - Look At Me Now ft. Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Breezy
NOT a Chris Brown fan by ANY buuut there's no denying that song is absolutely ill and super catchy. Rolling with Wayne and Busta definitely makes the song!
radio loves it, clubs are bumping it and everyone's trying to get in on the remixes- a serious #win for Chris Brown

XoXo CCPR gang and Barry
I honestly can’t believe how fast our CCPR journey came to an end.... this was my shortest educational venture yet the one that made me grow the most.
My whole college experience really reminded me of high school... which was amazing because I loved high school.. well the social aspect of it anyway. My bff Elina K joined me in attending Centennial for the Book + Magazine Publishing Program, so we got to carpool 1st semester (deja vu a la grade 9)and be locker buddies for 8 months :). The caf chills,Toronto's "Degrassi High" old building, 8:30 mornings and spares, 5 days a week schedule with the same class all really brought me back to grade 12 lol. I remember graduating CHAT and thinking about how I couldn't wait to get to York U and the freedom of structuring my own schedule and meeting new people in every class and being completely independent. Then after 5 years of that, coming to Centennial felt like one last taste of being a kid!
Going to college was my first real grown up choice (ironically). After spending 5 years of my life at York U studying theory, theory and some more theory along with the glorified opinions of my professors, most of you can understand why I chose a much more practical/fun program at Centennial.
To me PR was the optimal choice because I figured one can never go wrong with having a post-graduate diploma in communications. In fact my mindset was: if I don’t become a PR starlet like Samantha Jones (SATC duh), I’ll at least come out a better professional writer, speaker and will have a few business promotion tricks up my sleeve. I also figured that this was the only profession where I could really thrive by making connections- networking, which most of you know is my hobby anyway (besides V-date which will come eventually to all of those patiently waiting).
It was supposed to be a backup plan to law school but instead it pushed law school to a backseat.
I chose Centennial over Humber and Seneca, because of feeling I had when I met Barry. At first it seemed sketchy; old "Degrassi”, out of this world staff who turned out to be so sweet especially Mary and Marilyn (except for the evil office lady), and a crappy one hour commute to the Danforth of all places twice a day but I had a feeling that this man would really make a difference in my life and the school turned out to be somewhat of a diamond in the rough.
To this day, that was the best decision I ever made for my professional future and myself as a person.
Today, 8 months later after having hosted an official fundraiser, done a press conference, attending tons of networking events, hammering out endless communication plans and working with an array of people, and even getting a taste of working at LG Fashion Week I can confidently say that CCPR really schooled me.
It definitely improved my writing and enabled me to communicate in a clear, concise manner; press releases, communication plans, social media campaigns, pitches, advertorials…bring them on.
I’ve always been social media savvy, but CCPR definitely forced me to explore platforms like Twitter and blogging, which I never fully understood, but now am proud to say I am obsessed with. I am also getting better and better at search engine optimization so let's get your websites found on Google :)
I’ve been planning events my whole adolescent life; but CCPR taught me how to do it right. Sponsorship, event roll outs, the little clutch details and event promotions are all significant aspects of event management, that I am now confident to say I know inside out.
I am no media-relations expert yet, but now I know how to approach the media, pitch to them effectively and build relationships with them…and I am no longer scared to do it!
I learned a thing or two about managing my career, group work, critical paths, being professional, hyper-linking (lol) and even managing my own client and a grand opening extravaganza.
I've always been social but very shy about approaching people professionally...thanks to all of the networking tips, I've attended a bunch of networking events and have met some really awesome people all over Toroot's PR spectrum.
Indeed CCPR provided me with a rather impressive portfolio for a student who hasn’t even started their internship in the PR field: My Portfolio.
But most importantly I learned the power of dedicated educators and truly inspirational people. Let’s face it; at university you are lucky if you find one professor who can match your name to your face. At Centennial, we had the pleasure of being taught by caring individuals like Bruce, Jessie-May, Sheldon, Paul and of course Barry who all knew us by names, common excuses and some of our most brilliant work.
To those who have not been fortunate enough to be inspired by their educators, I truly feel for you. These people taught us, related us, helped us to succeed and were attentive to our needs and concerns. They are not just teachers, but full-time communications professionals, who have taken time out of their busy lives to actually talk to us, attend our events, celebrate with us and guide us.
Most of you have heard me talk in awe about our program coordinator Barry. Barry is not just an individual who goes above and beyond for his students; over the past 8 months he has literally taken on the roles of; mentor, teacher, friend and has become all of ours adoptive father.
Barry IS CCPR plain and simple; he is building this program one assignment, guest speaker, course and student at a time. He has taught us endless media relations, corp com and online PR wisdom. He has also slaved away for the past 3 months ensuring that each of us (36 peeps) secures the field placement of our choice. Including helping me secure the internship I’ve been dreaming about since November.
What I respect about him most is the fact that this man has achieved tremendous success in the PR industry and is a local PR celebrity (see his LinkedIn connections if you don’t believe me) yet he has always treated us with ultimate respect (no scolding, trivializing, condescending comments EVER), understanding and support. So thank you Barry for every single opportunity you emailed us about, every lesson you taught, every guest speaker you brought in and every connection you’ve help us built. ‘An apple for a timeless teacher’ can fully capture my gratitude to you, but I have a feeling that as a true “parent”, the only way we can REALLY thank you is by attributing our future success to you and making you proud of having been our teacher. Thank you for the inspirations and the motivation.
Our class was a true cast of characters and our experience was definitely anything but boring or mundane. I've never had the pleasure of graduating with a class in which I know and adore 99% of the people before, nor have I been able to truly say that I have learned so much useful practical stuff that I am actually ready to start a career.
So CCPR gang, thank you for the music and the past 8 months. We bonded, stressed, and got everything done together. We optimized our individual talents to make dynamite projects and events, and definitely learned a lot from each other. We bitched, we drank, and even karaoked "Graduation". Our friendships, social media connections and BBM group are forever; we are a solid network of amazing, talented people so let’s kick ass and make Barry proud.

A little on-line PR goes a long way for your brand!
I'm very excited for many of my friends and acquaintances who are currently in the process of starting their own businesses. Many of you have been asking me for tips on how to do your own PR.
Although, I myself am not an entrepreneur, I've been fortunate to have been raised by one; my father. My dad's is an adventurous business spirit who has ventured in to many industries throughout his entrepreneurial journey.
The one lesson I've learned about starting out an entrepreneurial adventure is: your project/business becomes your baby. You conceive it, bring in to this world and hope to raise it well because its your biggest investment. But as with any child, loving and talking about it is not enough. To maximize its' potential, and get the best ROI (return on investment) your business/child need tools and resources to grow and develop.
Effective PR is the best tool you can employ for their business.
Every business is a brand. Every brand has a reputation and needs effective maintenance, promotion and at times crisis management. PR helps a business to live, be known and to survive the rocky times as we've seen with Maple Leaf Farms, Toyota and many celebrities.
I'm not insisting that you need to go out and sign a contract with a PR agency immediately, but here are a few tools you can use on your own to maximize the ROI of your business:
Online presence is key for any brand. Let's face it EVERYBODY Googles everything and when your brand is Googled, its best if the search results are optimized to show a strong presence.
Every business needs a website. It doesn't need to be fancy, out of this world just simple (creativity is a plus but not a requirement) and informative about your brand. This will help you track your visits, communicate with your clients and showcase your company.
The beauty of online tools is that most of them overlap and link up so its always easy to direct your audience to your brand.
If you are renting a page on a domain, make sure it s Google-friendly so it comes up high in Google searches. Which domain you choose is very important, so select carefully.
Search Engine Optimization is not as difficult as it sounds:
Once you have a website all you need to do is use Google Adwords (free tool) to figure out the most prominent keywords entered in to searches related to your business to attract the most traffic.. i.e "florist vs flower store" flowers vs roses".
Then use the keywords you choose for your website title tags. if you have a website designer you can consult for help it'd, be awesome to optimize your Meta Description (the blurb that shows up under the title) and H1 tags too for optimal search results and traffic to your website.
On to the social media stuff...
A blog is a great tool for a brand to engage with its target audience, but a blog needs to be a consistent effort in order to effectively keep an audience interested. If you don't plan on updating it, there's simply no point in writing it...(the best place for a company's blog is on the company's website)
A Google Places Listing for a business is worth a million words. Not only does it provide the searcher with the comfort of knowing that your business is legit and verified, but it also provides them with a map and directions on how to find you. Obviously businesses registered on Google Places come up first in general searches for specific industries and services... i.e. "florists Toronto".
Yellowpages.ca is also a popular resource to create a listing for free. Whenever businesses are searched on the website yours will come up as well. Free advertising? Take it..
LinkedIn is as important for your business as it is for the development of your professional network. It helps industry experts connect, track companies employment patterns, and to give you insight in to your competitors.
E-Newsletters are great for bringing constant brand awareness to your business. You may think that once you have a few customers word of mouth will be enough, but a seasonal newsletter can really help you stay on the grid.
Special deal sites like Groupon and Dealfind are also amazing ways to put your business on the grid. Both sites have over thousands followers and are an amazing way to gain exposure.
E-coupons are an amazing way to attract customers. Whether attached to e-mails or featured on coupon hunting sites like Simply Best Coupons and Fruggal Shopper , they're great exposure and a brilliant way to attract new customers.
Twitter is also essential to every business. Not only is 140 characters perfect for providing your followers with business updates, special events and relevant industry news, but Twitter allows you to connect with many prominent individuals ranging from celebrities to bloggers to key industry figures! Engaging these individuals can translate to great benefits for your business and an update knowledge of relevant developments for you.Adding a Twitter button to your website (by pasting an html code) would optimize traffic to your website.
Before writing off Facebook consider that over 5 million people are actively using it everyday and the mere action of creating a business page, group or event can not only create impeccable brand awareness, but it can literally multiply the attendance of your events and use of your services. All of these Facebook tactics enable you to engage your audience directly, display photos and videos and they allow people to like and share your business as well as to recommend it by posting a "Like" button to your website. Everybody believes in 'word of mouth' advertising, well Facebook is the 'word of mouth' of the 21st century
None of these tool are complicated to use, each comes with an extensive help section and they are all free.
Ones you've acquainted yourself and your company with these, feel free to broaden your horizon and explore other more advanced tools like Google and Facebook Ads-both are paid and very effective in gaining your brand recognition.
Creativity and consistency are key when starting and promoting your business.
Hope this helps :)

Putin on the Ritz
PR is all about a brand's public image.. and this definitely capture's the public's image of Bush's and Putin's personal brands.

What a fun time working with Vermont Floral Design, my first grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony. Mayor of Vaughan, Maurizio Bevilacqua came out for the occasion, funny man!
Snap Vaughan was there too and a few Russian media!
Kanye West - All Of The Lights ft. Rihanna, Kid Cudi (by KanyeWestVEVO)
They really meant: "turn off the lights in here baby, and see me shine extra bright in the dark" :)
I'm a simple girl and to me Earth Hour simply makes sense from an environmental, human and relationship-building perspective.
Many people look at the concept of turning lights off for an hour with skepticism and insist that its just not enough for the planet. I agree. But as our favourite presentations teacher taught us (#ccpr), always ask people to make a small change rather than a big one to ensure results and their compliance.
This year marks my 4th anniversary of trading in technology and electricity for some candles and great company. My confession: I love the planet, I really do, but I love the opportunity to go back to candle light and conversation as entertainment so much more.
As PR students, we are taught the value of networking and relationship-building. I couldn't picture a better opportunity to build (or improve) relationships than this hour of the year, when the world turns off their TVs, computers, radios and lights and takes a breathe of primitive, intimate reality without distractions.
You may not save the planet through your own sole efforts, nor will you meet anybody influential that will skyrocket your career in your dark living room, but you can definitely use this opportunity to catch up with you loved ones and really communicate with no distractions and interruptions.
At the end of the day, if you're willing to go beyond the hour for Earth Hour, you might as well take it one step further and go beyond the norm of your daily interactions with your loved ones.
Remember that relationships and the planet have one thing in common; both need to be proactively nurtured (even if that means just setting aside an hour ) in order to survive and grow.
RIP Elizabeth Taylor
Queen of cinema (Sabrina, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Giant, etc.) fashion and jewels; one of the strongest females of this century and definitely a symbol of beauty, intellect, strength and dignity .
Epic love stories (including her notorious marriage to the love of her life Richard Burton in Montreal), unmatched talent and her love of jewels captivated women all over the world. She was well known for her cheeky sense of humour, sharp wit, immense strength and always speaking her mind. Its a shame her journey is over, but she definitely completed it in style, surrounded by admiration and respect.
She always balanced the image of a powerful woman and a hopeless romantic ever so gracefully. For example; 'What I want in love is the virile approach of the real man, willing arms that will hold me tightly to him and make me bend to him. I want to be loved with passion as if life itself depended on it'
Some of Elizabeth Taylor's wisest quotes:
"I've been through it all, baby, I'm mother courage."
"I am a very committed wife. And I should be committed too - for being married so many times. My mother says I didn't open my eyes for eight days after I was born, but when I did, the first thing I saw was an engagement ring. I was hooked."
"Big girls need big diamonds." "I fell off my pink cloud with a thud." (me too Liz, me too) "It is strange that the years teach us patience; that the shorter our time, the greater our capacity for waiting." oh touche Liz! "I've always admitted that I'm ruled by my passions." "I don't think President Bush is doing anything at all about Aids. In fact, I'm not sure he even knows how to spell Aids." (Taylor dedicated her life's work to support the fight against Aids) and a significant PR-esque message: "You find out who your real friends are when you're involved in a scandal." (Which Taylor was no stranger to.) Cheers to you Elizabeth Taylor, thanks for the wisdom, inspiration and of course all of the glam :)

Timati R&B (Rap and Branding)
Let me begin by saying that I am personally not a big fan of Russian rap like Detsl and such, but I am extremely impressed with Timati's flow and path of self-branding.
For those who have not been exposed to Timati, this guy is a rapper, business man, bomb lyricist, and my dad's neighbour lol. He has made songs with some of the biggest names in Russian and American HipHop - Snoop Dogg, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, Eve, Fat Joe, Mario Winans, Ksenia Sobchak, and Nastya and the list keeps going.
He comes from an interesting mixed Tatar/Jewish background (both of which aren't typically known for producing rappers) and a wealthy family, and plays the violin, lived in LA, raps in English, Russian and mixed (which is my kind of language lol)
Timati was on Star Factory 4 (the equivalent of American Idol in Russia), and owns his own record label "Black Star Inc", an exclusive club called 'VIP 77', 'Black October' bar, and the stores Ё-Life.
Timati is also one of the very few artists in the Russian market practicing amazing PR. He is on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Wikipedia, MySpace and is always Vkontakte (in contact). Always out and about, mingling with Russian/ European/American socialites, and impressively MTV's top played video lists.
He became famous in Russian and Europe after he brilliantly moved to LA, collaborated with Snoop Dogg and other artists, learned a thing or two about making serious profit from West Coast's finest and came back to Moscow with a fresh Americanized perspective on making music, growing your own brand and endorsing products with the music (which wasn't as common in Russia).
His beats are fresh, his raps are all about glorifying partying, Moscow and the good high rolling life, and his social media is all in order.
Timati's is putting the 'hip' in to Russian Hip Hop and I'm becoming a fan.
Timati & Dj Smash - "Moscow Never Sleeps" (by TimatiOfficial)
