With the recent events going on I'd like to give people some pointers on Black Bloc. I see a lot of pictures of people covering their faces at protests in their regular everyday clothing, and as you could see from the picture that's probably not worth it if you're using clothing with identifying marks. First disclaimer is if no one is in black bloc don't be the only one, because you'll be seen as a instigator and make yourself a target. 1) Wear oversized black clothing that could layer your actual clothing. If things get sketchy and you have to disappear in a crowd it's better to have bright clothes under so you can ditch your Bloc and blend in. (I like a oversized sweatshirt, work pants, and wear common shoes like chucks or vans) 2) Don't wear any logos on your clothes or backpack, because you will be easier to spot. Also if you have visible tattoos you may want to wear gloves or a scarf. 3) Cover your whole head, but do so in a comfortable way for the weather you are in. Wearing a thick ski mask on a warm summer day is going to make you exhausted. You will also want to make sure that the eye holds are big enough to put on googles if tear gas is shot. (I like a beanie, bandana or scarf , and a hood in cold areas and a t-shirt wrapped around the head in warmer times) 4) Wearing bloc is supposed to conceal your identity, race, and gender. If you are going through all that trouble to hide who you are then don't post pictures of yourself on social media and definitely don't tag your friends! 5) The most important thing is to know your rights! Don't let the police bully you! In loving memory of Keyonna Blakeney, trans woman murdered in D.C.

Blakeney becomes the 9th trans person reported murdered this year, meaning that if this pace keeps up, 2016 will break the horrible record that last year set of most trans murders reported in the United States in one year.

Keyonna Blakeney, a 22-year-old Black transgender woman in the Washington, D.C. area, was found murdered in a hotel this weekend. She is the ninth trans person reported to have been murdered in 2016. 

Reports first came in on Facebook via a post by Foxx Jazell, who said that Blakeney “was celebrating her birthday” just a few days ago. Jazell also pointed out that her murder was likely due to the sex work that she was engaged in, which is often one of the few places trans women and especially trans women of color can turn to for solid employment, but is also a huge source of violence for them. While many men are much more than willing to sleep with trans women and pay us to sleep with them, many of them also associate sleeping with trans women with shame and guilt, and often turn that into rage. Whether it’s shame at what they’ve done or fear that others will find out that they slept with a trans woman, those negative feelings often manifest as real violence toward trans women, and again, usually trans women of color.

Over 5,000 people attended the mass memorial meeting called by the Anti-Militarist League for Berg, Hanson, and Caron, the three anarchists killed in the Lexington Avenue explosion.
