(Spoiler Warning)
The characters of Otherworld Barbara are searching for at least one of two things – a cure to aging (aka immortality) and a cure to loneliness (which Aoba proposes is all of humanity merging into one living organism or at least something like a shared subconscious). The interesting thing about the ending is that while on the surface, it seems to be hinting towards a future where both those “cures” will be found and manifested, it can also be interpreted as refuting them, and instead, putting forward the beliefs that aging is natural and that the true cure to loneliness is conversation.
