so use to losing in this playing field, it took her a moment to realise it had worked. she kept her megawatt grin from blinding alex on the spot and stifled it by pursing her lips. she spoke in small bursts, whispered now with the queasy crawl of desire in her stomach. ❛  oh yeah, i’m sure you did.  ❜  would it kill them to admit they might have come for her? possibly. their half-lidded portrait of inexpressive amusement was still a barrier to read through. that was coming from a siren, who had to survive celebrity city by reading people as part of business. a laugh fumbles out of her. she hadn’t been expecting it, but it brings her private life stuttering into view; books that were becoming decor during busy tour months, hot & cheesy romance novels that kept her company when the room got too lonely. she felt her face flare more, a hand swatting the merc’s shoulder. not like that, she was saying, but in truth: it was quite like that.

she also wasn’t going to explain or defend the controversial discourse around some of the fantasies she had been entertaining, courtesy of one equally controversial merc in her sphere...

         ❛  shut up. ❜ another swat, though they had a tendency to wind up closer with each attempt to push apart. she was against them now, arms around their neck & their hand, not to stealthily sneaking up her skirt. ❛  they’ve got plot, okay— and you have no idea what they even mean, do you. hot books. come on, alex.  ❜ she noticed it keenly, felt it keenly, saw the awareness of it reflected in her eyes by what she saw in theirs. her breath spent itself slowly, knee bending to caress the line of their pant leg. things were progressing faster than she could quip back at them, but it doesn’t stop her lidded stare from weighing so heavily on each little flick of change in their face.

she feels flustered being read back, the flare in her stomach reaching her throat, but she doesn’t buck away. ❛  mhmm. maybe. after all this... aren’t you?  ❜ there’s also not enough time to overthink it. tripped for less? soft, or easy? she wavers briefly but it’s rectified by the warm press of a mouth on hers. a tongue slides against her own and she meets it with the gradual rise of her chest, breath expelling sweetly and a soft noise courtesy of the hand grabbing a lot more of her than just her skirt. she feels herself smirk against the kiss, dangling like dew in more ways than one, & sighs happily when their lips part. ❛  oh, that’s real chivalrous. come here.  ❜ her head is slow to nod, licking at her own bottom lip for the taste of them; then she pulls close again, hair tucked away by their fingers, and kisses them fleetingly while pulling on the collar of alex’s shirt.

          ❛  shh. this way, gorgeous.  ❜ with bounce to her step, she reluctantly steps out of alex’s grip and half-drags them to the comfort of her dressing room. make up sprawled over the vanity, mirrors glittering with lights, outfits strewn about because she’d changed her mind about the mesh top a hundred times. & just past the storage there was a small bathroom with a shower affixed, easily someplace to lock them both behind. her manager could deal with the rest. a giggle gets out of her by the time she’s pressed alex back against the door. she hangs there a moment, breathing hard, thinking about kissing them before she entwines fingers with them instead. then, pulling away, she tosses back her hair and ignores the tangle of butterfly hair clips and glitter splotches to peel her top off instead. discarding it to the floor, she reaches for their shirt next and knocks noses with them. ❛  can i take this off? pretty please?  ❜

     lonely by choice,   that was the profession.  maybe it was simply an occupational hazard for the girl with the angel voice.   this city wasn't lacking chasers,   desperate folks waiting for the opportunity to pounce on anything scintillating and shining.   if it could be of worth than the attempt to take it would be made.   alex is no better than those desperate washouts,   maybe she is the worst of them all.   every step here led to the burning of their past;   a backwater apartment brimming with death.   they hadn't wanted any of that to touch her,   everything in their vicinity was built to crumble it was only a matter of time.   so why risk it?   (   because maybe she was tired of living like a ghost when her heart hadn't given out yet   )   there had been some doubts but there it went,   rapid,   steadfast the closer the singer dared to get,   until there was nowhere to retreat to.   in this light,   with the cool tone of stage lights obliterating the blush tones in her hair she is a blonde.   helly and her dimming halo,   helly and her smell of dreams left to rot at the bottom of an ashtray.   

        maybe their mouth is more foul than usual because they have to keep the past from catching up         with their tongue.   saved by the operator when the houselights come up dispelling all the remaining phantoms with stark white.   ❛ you sayin' i'm illiterate? way harsh,   sugar plum.   i think i got a good gist of the subject matter.   ❜ slipping back into easily,   it helps that their hands are already on her.   she is nothing like helly in this regard,   soft where the former athlete had been lean muscle and then bone once she started using.   this is better,   this was better.   she needed this or she would go home a drink herself stupid   (   or do something worse,   way worse   )   kissing her isn't a choice it is the only conclusion for this night,   to make her real,   some fucked up kind of proof of life for alex's sake.   chalking it up to selfishness is the only way to dance around the truth.   

        ❛ oh,   i'm a real prince charming just you wait.   ❜ and there it was the incalculable rightness of her hand in her own as she is dragged down the stairs into the quieter interior of the venue.   ducking into the only lit room down the corridor.   a unicorn seemed to have thrown up all over the premises,;  sequined tank tops and rainbow studded belts hung off of every free surface.   that's about as far as their investigation gets once the door is closed and they are subsequently cornered against it.   an entrapment she hardly stays in for long once the skin starts showing,   not that there had been much left to imagination to begin with but she is too near now to ignore.   ❛ i don't know,   can you? ❜ they never find out,   they never give her the chance to try before dragging her up by the thighs and hoisting her onto the vanity.   

        scattering the makeup,   several compacts clatter to the floor as she makes space for the cyber siren.   wedging herself between her legs,   pulling off her black t-shirt in one fluid motion,   somehow her hands were steadier than she felt.   more ink to feast on without a bra in sight as they weren't particularly well-endowed in that department.   phira was the opposite,   breasts held snug together in lace-lined push up,   not that she needed it.   an arm sneaks around behind her,   finding the clasp and the band snaps in release.   a mean trail of kisses begins down the curve of her neck,   teeth and tongue in entanglement.   while their fingertips crawled up her skirt,   hooking on the string of her thong,   giving the fabric a pleasant tug upward.   another hand grabs the girl by the chin,   turning her towards her reflection.   ❛ look how pretty you are when you're desperate… ❜  the mirror begins to fog with each puff of breath.   over her shoulder alex is nearly pure shadow,   only the split of her smile the single shred of brightness in her silhouette.   ❛ how was i supposed to say no to that face? ❜

the blow surprises him.  lifts him off one foot with the force of her upswing and sends him crashing hard to his side against sun - scorched earth.  at the same time,  it feels as though the left plane of his face explodes.  he takes a moment for the world to stop spinning,  the noise in his ears to settle to its usual thrum,  before he raises himself up on trembling arm.  the appendage that does not bear his weight surveys the skin where it’s aching,  assures himself that flesh remains intact (  six indentations from the underside of his jaw to mid - cheek,  thin and marked through his glove’s warm leather  —  did she hit him with her motherfucking guitar?  ),  and he probes the site with the end of his tongue.  counts his teeth amidst the blood that’s begun to pool his mouth and finds nothing to be missing,  hocking a wad of viscous red into the sand.  oh,  yeah  —  he’d felt that one. 

“  sonofabitch,  ”  he huffs as he staggers to full height,  turning on his assailant and finding her prepared to strike a second time,  old blue - black guitar indeed raised like she were some pre - war brat at her first tee - ball game.  the men that accompany her have taken a more traditional defense,  guns at the draw and aimed down their sightlines. the ghoul retrieves his own pistol from its holster,  and aims it at the space 'tween lucy gray’s eyes gone dark with anger,  disdain.  the girl does not flinch.  last fuckin’ time he takes a job running down a bar tab for some hole - in - the - wall establishment with shit whiskey,  vices be damned.  “   i’d go ahead and think real hard ‘bout what you and those little anklebiters of yours are gonna pull next,  darlin’,  ‘cause i ain’t a man in the business of repeatin' himself a third time.  hand over the caps,  and we can all go about our merry fuckin’ ways.  understood?  ”

     people get used to grabbing before asking out here.   even when your pockets were empty there was always something else worth taking   (   especially for a girl with a rattler for a tongue   )   this situation was a strike first ask question later sort of an encounter,   so she moved swift while she still had time to do so.   as soon as the guitar met the ghoul's side its wooden body came apart upon impact but not before it knocked the wind out of big,   tall,   and ugly first.   maude ivory and tam amber crowd behind her,   chaotic color and curls bound together as they brandish their own instruments.   overall, not much of a showing once they were staring down the narrow mouth of a barrel of a gun.   they wouldn't get another swing at him but the barkeep might, with a pistol in tow and a ragtag army of patrons not too far behind him.   their little songbird didn't run the join but weaseling her way into the good graces with a voice that could lift one out of the wasteland   (   even if it was only until the ballad ended   )         men like him and an errand boy were miles apart,   they weren't close to much of anything out in the sands.   ❛ comin' in here,   runnin' your mouth,   swingin' round that gun 'a yours like we're measurin' inches or somethin… all for a few caps?  ❜ keeping the ruined wood trained at his throat all the while.   a brow raises,   think and dark like the rest of hair which tossed turned in the passing gale.   ❛ i ain't believin' that for a second,   vaquero.   i may be young as a spring chicken compared to you but none of this is new to me.   ❜ the business of being in the wilds.   while her folk have been everywhere you could be   (   even left of nowhere   )   people were the same no matter where you went topside but music performed a strange sort of alchemy that no audience,   rowdy or docile could deny.   even the nastiest of snakes would show their bellies… one in particular already had.   ❛ if you're lookin' for snow he ain't here no more and that's all you're gettin' outta us.   ❜

( 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐓 ) ; one muse shows up at the other’s doorstep in tears [ em & tim cause i miss them......... :') ]

     a waltz down the aisle to the tune of her own shame.   believing their interludes in the narrow span between life and death to beyond the all-seeing eye of the crowned faerie mother.   clíodhna by all accounts was champion of love,   a ruling aspect and virtue amongst the court of bean sídhe.   what was improper was the act of gallivanting around with mortal ( divine-blooded or otherwise  )   when she was amongst the folk gentry.   many had been exiled for less,   while her station may provide a veil of security from the threat of being discarded so readily it did not make her invulnerable to scrutiny.   as the youngest and most tender of heart of a dozen long-limbed and willow beauties sisters she was used to a certain degree of mockery.   ALL IN GOOD FUN!   IT IS BUT JEST,   LITTLE ONE.   OUR MOST SENSITIVE SWALLOW.   this jeering was mere child's play when words reached the border nether realm.   constant eyes,   the ever-present humming wings a hum that began fervent exchange of whispers.   

      fleeing was all she could think to do.   confirming every damning shred of gossip as she painted herself dutifully with glamour to walk amongst the living.   an armor of a kind in its own right,   he had never seen her true face   ━   wearing the ever-green features of maiden at the height of youth as he laid across her lap dithering upon the brink.   under a cloak of thick mist she meets the rising tower of the lighthouse,   the golden flicker of lamplight from within confirms his presence.   once inside the stairs rise before her in a spiral,   the wide space forming a cavern.   ❛ timothy…   are you here?  ❜ even with half her breath the call carries upward to the makeshift workshop above.   dragging her leaden feet up each stair at a time,   all sense of purpose having abandoned her limbs.   she could fly,   simply transmute herself to him in a mere instant but her vision is too crowded with tears.   acidic,   oddly verdant translucency the truth of her beginning to spill out of every crevice.   

      mercifully he falls upon her,   descending in a storm of unkempt clothes and wild dark hair.   meeting her on the floor where she lay in a heap of muddied skirts and salt water logged cheeks.   ❛ it's all gone to ruin,   it's ruined,   mo cuishle.  ❜ babbling her worries through the constricting sobs that made a quake of her entire body.   arms come around her to still some of the turmoil and she is grateful for a place to perch her chin.   burying her frigid nose into the inviting curve of @riteofrobin's neck,   breathing in his presence as a tether to this world.   warm skin,   mingling with the hint of amber in his cologne washed over the oracle like a balm.   ❛ i don't know what to do.   i don't think i can go home anymore   ━   they know,   they all know.   ❜ folding into him as she has crawled into his lap searching for purchase in any manner it presented itself to her.

she’s gotten better at handling the jabs. she thinks she needs the bit of practice to get better at having tough skin. the first time alex had made a face at the string of synth pop melodies she had wanted to show them, she’d cried after alex had gone & thrown her glitter pink keychain across the room. she’d regretted that immediately too; a fan had given it to her and she felt like a piece of shit for doing it. so really, she needs it, if she’s willing to try again and again to keep this dark cloud whirlwind in her orbit— because much to her huffing dismay, a pair of glossed up lips and naked hips weren’t entirely enough to make it happen. alex was making her work for it, and she found that for a night city mermaid, she was often under the spell of chasing them.

phira’s head turns to where she sees her watching. no text back over the ticket, not even a single emoji, yet here she was. she’d hidden her disappointment and assumed it was a no-show, but the effect landed on her now like a punch of soda. it was in her voice & radiating off her skin between glitter and sweat and silky lights. she’s suddenly too happy; her grin is twenty capsules of healthy vitamins inside a glass of her favourite gin when the show closes down.

it’s more tempered once she’s off the stage. it’s like the lights and the crowd and the low cortisol take the unfettered confidence with them. still, she holds her ground; what’s she got to lose here on her own turf? she’s still riding the high, still spasming in heart and soul and legs that alex stern came to see her. by the time she skips over to her, her grin is back & her cheeks flushed. hair sticks to the back of her neck— gross, but she’ll shower soon. right now all she cares about is catching her breath before she speaks.

MOMENT OF TRUTH, THE NEON SIGN READS: HERE COME THE JABS!!!

         ❛  ha! so funny! you know, blitz kraken was playing only two doors down. so cool, soooo heavy metal.  ❜ her arms move, ribboning around alex stern’s neck. they grip her hips, tug her close, short skirt ruffling & bracelets chirping. ❛  but i think, i’m more your type. and tell me something i don’t know! you should see the subthreads that go on and on about it. but oh, my god, it’s like the plot of a hot book. thank youuu for your vested interest in my career, but that’s for my manager to worry about.  ❜

she steps closer now, arms tightening. she’s in a far louder state of undress than alex, but there’s nowhere she’s felt more comfortable in her skin than right here. she draws a hand back momentarily, brushes her fingertips lightly to their cheek and smiles. her neck is flushed from singing but her eyes are softening in colour, two pearls on a beach.

their noses brush together and her mouth waters. she lets herself get a good look at them now; dressed in black, hair silky, tattoos crawling up their collarbone, serpents in their eyes. it makes her swallow, she runs her fingers through that dark. slowly, she lets her chest press close too, hip to hip & getting cosy. ❛  mhmmmm. if i pull it again, real hard, will it make you stumble? right into my dressing room? i like that, baby, sounds nice when you say it.  ❜ moment of truth part two: she makes the first move, let’s her mouth hover just against alex’s. half-lidded eyes watch them, her bottom lip peachy where it tempts a kiss and whispers. ❛  so, how about a piece of this?  ❜

     the whole brooding loner routine wouldn't have been her first choice. all their doom and gloom warnings weren't for nothing,   they owed favors to all the wrong people.   the kinda bastards that were not strangers to finding ways to obtain leverage.   phira wasn't top of the food chain by any means,   a small fish in a big pond,   but she had enough celebrity that whatever it was they were doing here wouldn't go unnoticed eitan and his lackeys.   linking the two together wasn’t exactly the everyday sort of pr crisis,   it could very well be a deathwish so they had thought of bailing.   by all means it was the safest option but they didn't do well with neat boundaries and restrictions;   it only made them want to tear at their confines more.   so she showed up,   consequences nipping at her heels but it was worth it for the look on her face right now;   eyes brighter than this whole neon hellscape they called home.   

        eager wasn't good,   eager meant there wasn't going to be a way out of this.   leave it to alex to still be looking for a backdoor escape after putting herself right in the path of siren.   no,   her song went to the bone and it wasn't dislodged without leaving its teeth in you.   ❛ yeah,   well i didn’t come for the music,   i came for the view – nice setup you have up here.   ❜ not that she hadn't enjoyed the show,   just maybe not for the right reasons.   not a hint of nerves on stage but the persona cracks ever-so slightly when the merc pulls into her orbit.   

        ❛ you read a lot of those?   hot books,   i mean,   i had a feeling you were a little freak.   it’s always the sweet-lookin’ ones,   isn’t it...   ❜ no way she hadn't realized that she walked right into that one,   alex was only ever an opportunist.   the image it conjured wasn't displeasing either;   text playing across the back of her eyelids,   hair splayed over her pillow,   a burgeoning flower as her breathe grew more staggered...   that's where their train of thought crashes and they're forced to recalibrate  —  to find some reason, at least for the next few minutes or so.   ❛ plus,   you attract some real weirdos so can you blame me for keeping tabs?   i think you got enough of that attention already.   ❜  she is ready to add to this consideration,   thumb pressing into the slope of her hip on one side with her fingers grazing just below the skirt's meager length.

he doesn't expect anyone to be there when he comes back from his sojourn in Star City, the concept of coming home to someone foreign to the archer since Lian had grown from a little child tethered to his side to a sure-footed adolescent who had inherited his penchant for straying. so when he unlocks the front door of his Brooklyn brownstone, dufflebag weighing down his sore, muscular shoulders, he nearly misses the lump with silver tresses poking out from beneath his intricately woven Diné cheif's blanket along the couch — intent on trudging along to bed for some well-deserved rest. it's when he sees it move from the corner of his eagle eyes that he swivels in place at the entrance to his livingroom, watching the outline with pointed suspicion that quickly gave way to awestruck fondness once he clocked it was her.

Roy could count on one hand the people he'd told that he would be back, Felicia being one of them. while her presence could very well be due to crashing at his place to save herself the trek back uptown from a party that ended closer to this borough, he can't help but hope she had slept over just to see him once he got home. ( though she'd probably refuse to admit it if asked ) standing fixed in place as she begins to rouse, sights trained to the graceful stretch of her body as she sits up and speaks, his form shakes slightly from both surprise and the inherent pleasure that hearing her voice again wrought.

immediately, Roy drops his dufflebag, heavy footfall carrying him in swift strides to sink down before her. he swallows back some lame retort ready on the tip of his tongue, something along the lines of 'forget about me already ?' in favor of tracing the outline of her face with longing eyes that gleamed like gems against sunlight just to look at her. “ hey ... ” he settles for instead, the rasp of his voice soft and warm in the special way it always was when he addressed Felicia. “ wild night ? ”

      hardly ever mattered where she roamed,   the city always called her back. despite every bridge she burned   (   even lit the damn match herself sometimes   )   it remained home.   she always had a sense of new york as a companion instead of a place,   someone who held her,   not quite a soft place to land but a familiar floor to lie on all the same.   for a while that was enough,   she told herself as much.   that an empty penthouse was never truly vacant if it was always filled with brimming champagne and the laughter of strangers.   he has ruined this for her,   she used to go out into the night looking for herself now she leaves simply because it gives him a chance to follow.   when the party was over she nearly called him if only to purr over the open line and see if she could sweet talk her way into a ride home despite the ungodly hour.   stopping herself once she realized he wasn’t in town this week.   

       so she wallows in the solitude,   before doing the next best thing,   which was slipping soundlessly into the brooklyn brownstone.   all finesse leaving her bones the moment she is securely inside the apartment.   abandoning her heels by the door,   she only managed to drag herself to the couch before passing out in a heap of dior and diamonds.   while her ears may perk up at the clicking of the door she can’t even begin to muster the energy of lifting her head to check.   the whole place was rock solid,   the only person that could even hope to put a dent in all his failsafes and security measures was currently indisposed in the living room.   at first,   it seem to be the haze of a dream the whole room feathering at the edges as she tried to blink away her fatigue.   windows leaking dawn into the disheveled space and it catches the burnished copper of his hair,   shining like a brand new coin just how she liked it.   ❛ without you? never,   it was actually pretty tame.  ❜ another bundle of slurring words she was surprised he had even parsed her initial request.   

       pure impulse has her reaching out towards him,   impatient for contact and the steadying force of his presence.   pulling him down by the neck over her the distinctly feline gesture of rubbing her own smooth cheek against the stubble of his own.   ❛ not hungover at all,   the room definitely isn’t spinning or anything right now.   ❜ the sound and smell of menthols are there in her breath still but she is less concerned with the club still being all over her and more interested in having him paint over it with his skim.   ❛ missed you… ❜ it was too casual,   it came too easily and she thinks she may still be drunk but she doesn’t amend herself even if she should.   barely a whisper,   but he was too close to have overlooked it.

must not be understated how good of an actress felicia can be. there is obviously the constant artifice of her 'party girl' persona that she must keep up but that's not a full departure from who she truly is ! she is absolutely the person who kills the vibe the second you ask if she can cry on cue and the next thing you know she is full on sobbing in the club causing a scene, just a for a laugh! ironically enough playing the wilting flower is the most fun for her since it's such the antithesis of who she actually is. obviously she hams it up a bit too much when the situation isn't THAT serious but she is committed that's for sure. on a more serious not she has sometimes taken on gigs that require her to be under deep cover for years at a time and she fully embodies whatever role she is given. we should all be concerned about the amount of times she has been in a fake marriage for the sake of a payout lol.

     off the wind from the pier her silver hair is a white flag waving behind her.   already bracing her for surrender,   she makes a good show of it too;   feigning intoxication,   adding an extra wobble in her too-tall heels.   a woman alone at night was the stuff of daydreams,   perfect in a city that was always ready to swallow a poor soul whole.   all it took was one wrong turn but this was a right turn actually,   she finds him in the mist only because she knows where to look.   the rest of their audience,   on the other hand,   was entirely unaware of the ambush.   yes,   the rumors were true! felicia hardy was playing the role of bait for one night only;   live and on stage for gotham's viewing pleasure.   the gaggle of characters on her tail were none other than the gauche thugs who started frequenting what was once the iceberg lounge.   this town didn't tolerate a power vacuum;   they especially didn't tolerate the appearance of a young man attached to the wayne name who deigned to fill it.   tough luck,   wasn't that?   

       even tougher was being the arm candy.   a calculated effort but it wasn't the worst gig in the world putting herself in front of the cameras and slipping into the skin of a lovestruck socialite   (   perhaps because it wasn't too far from the truth   )   love was mouthful but she couldn't leave @yharnum here to go back to new york.   the city itself was some sort of pathogen;   it altered his every movement,   even the cadence of his voice.   she wasn't foolish enough to think she could cure the sickness but she wasn't going to cut and run either.   oh,   she was kidding herself then she threw herself into the performance.   the men cornering her in a loose circle of bodies,   she begins to shiver,   willing her shoulders into an uneven tremor.   ❛ s-stay back! ❜ making a point of scrounging through her purse to reach for some sort of makeshift weapon,   this gets their pistols up and she shows her palms.   

       there it was,   the agreed upon signal and the red hood arrives not as knight but as another challenger.   capturing her from behind,   keeping both her arms pinned down with just one his own.   metal pressed into the side of her head,   the barrel just above her ear,   perfectly placed for a quick dispatch.   way to keep it convincing,   the thief had to bite down on her tongue to keep herself from grinning.   ❛ please,   please don't hurt me.   my boyfriend has money.   i swear i'll get you whatever you need,   just let me go   ━   ❜ here it was,   the pièce de résistance;   waterworks.   hot tears pool in her eyes mingling with her mascara until they fall in dark streams of melodrama down her cheeks.   a perfect damsel and the perfect crime,   it is instantaneous.   shifting the trajectory of his gun towards their party-crashers,   too slow to react to the sudden danger.   they go down executioner's style,   not given the dignity of any kind of panache as the bullets enter through their skulls and come clean on the other end.   

       all the while his bracing grip around her slackens,   she pats his hand to call for further release.   a lazy sort of disentanglement as she rights the hem of her dress.   ❛ so convincing,   you almost had me scared for a second,   red.   practically quaking in my boots right now.   ❜ allowing her knees a slight shake for his benefit before beginning the thumb away at the aftermath of her sobbing exhibition.   kneeling before one of the bodies she is quick to free a wallet off the corpse as her fingertips were no stranger to death.   ❛ this name mean anything to you?  ❜  sliding a state id out of its plastic holdings and flicking it in jason's direction.   whatever cash she could find she pockets,   old habits she wasn't about to try to teach herself new tricks now.
