Solas IS going to the ball, but he's going incognito and disguised. He's wearing his Orlesian Bard outfit from Tevinter Nights, which includes a mask made to look like a dragon and a blonde wig. He's also putting on a french accent. Reference image is here.

People can find him mostly hanging around with the musicians. He'll play if asked, but he's mostly there to listen in on gossip and see what's going on. (And to wonder if any of the other Thedosians in Isola will figure him out.)

That being said, like this for a starter at the party? I'm capping at 2 like I usually do, but castmates are exempt. I DO want him to meet some new people though!

He didn't use his phone very often, but he did keep it. He had little use for such devices, but Solas was not the sort of person to throw something away if it may, in fact, be useful.

There was a long time after he read the words on the screen. A long time, and a lot of thoughts. Perhaps the time alone hadn't done his good sense any favors, because after a time, and somewhere far off, another phone would buzz with an answer—of a sort.

A wanderer in humble guises, with much knowledge of the elves and their spirits, whispering poison into the ears of travelers. He remembers the old propaganda plastered with images of slavering wolves being held at bay by the 'heroic' elven kings, and the way that it twisted through the ages, until he had become the trickster god of ancient legend.

Maybe he fit the image they had painted of him a little too well.

He stepped out of the mist, masked, next to the traveler on the path. He was masked, and his footsteps were silent, not giving him away until he spoke.

Solas had known something was wrong when the demon that had been trailing him shot off in another direction, like an animal bored of stalking one prey, suddenly running off to pursue something more interesting. With something like Regret, that could never mean anything good.

It skitters through the streets on multiple long, dark legs, bits and piece of the world breaking off into floating chunks or cracking apart as it goes. The wolf-like head of the demon looks, seeking something, and then seems to hone in on it. As it turns a corner, Solas follows it, running, now, more than walking.

It turns, many eyes focused on a single point. It draws up its wolf-like head to look down the way that a high dragon might (it is not much smaller than a high dragon, either.)

Solas waves to the man in front of the demon, hoping to get his attention before the creature notices him. Not a man Solas knows, though he has some guesses at once.

❝ this way! ❞ He gestures, ❝ it is a regret demon—do not get caught up in it. run! ❞

It is the Dread Wolf that finds Cullen, and he's glad that he manages it before most of the demons do, or at least the ones that had been following him around. He'd had the good sense to clear them away before going searching for any of his old allies.

He knew to look for either Kirkwall or Kinloch Hold, that's probably what helped the most. The grey-brown stone streets of an old city crack and splinter around him, chunks of stone lifting up to float into the air in an uncomfortable reminder of another place that had fallen apart around him, to a chorus of shrieks, accusing the Dread Wolf of killing them all.

Solas may be an enemy now, in some capacity, but he isn't going to let his old allies fall to dark dreams. He still cares about them, those who stood once with the Inquisition. It hurts to admit that much to himself, but he accepted that fact a long time ago. They are people, and they matter.

He can practically feel Regret laughing from wherever it was. Still tailing him. The last two times he'd killed it, it had simply reappeared. That was how he'd convinced himself it wasn't a real spirit. A reflection of one, perhaps, but not real.

A host of shades and red templars up ahead of him freeze mid-shriek or mid-claw, turning instantly to grey stone. The shadow of something huge, like a massive wolf, seems to be approaching, but when the figure steps out from in between the demon statues, it's just Solas, staff in hand, looking tired and determined, but unharmed.

perhaps it was silly, following the wisps through the forest, but there was something familiar about that. as if she was back in Thedas, searching the area with her companions. just how far and how long she walked was something that hardly crossed elaria's mind but it didn't matter much in the end. not when the spirits led her to a mirror she could recognize in her sleep. perhaps what should trouble her is not the appearance of it, but how willingly she moved towards it, fingertips pressing gently against the glass, as if seeking something.

and when it gives way to something else, a silent breath is released, almost in relief.

the beast is what draws her attention first, as it would anyone, but with it came no chill down her spine. no feeling to draw her weapon, no threat of danger. this is what allows her gaze to move across the interior of the tower, drawn to brilliant paintings she's only ever known one to create. familiar shapes greet her sight. old friends dotted along skyhold, a sight that pulled at her heart.

another breath released. her attention focuses back on what could only be described as a large wolf-like creature, watching her without moving a muscle. it was risky. after all, she could be wrong. there was a sliver of a chance that this could be just another dream of hers but who was she, if not someone who took such risks?

the mage takes one step forwards. then another and another and another, soft and precise, until she is but a few feet from the creature's head. next comes her hand, reaching out slowly, as if to touch but it stops short. her palm is faced upwards, head tilting to the side in an inquisitive manner. and then, she speaks.

" Solas.....Is that you?" soft, curious, she asks and she waits, never moving. it's not as if she expects him to speak if it is. a talking animal was pure fantasy, but given how everything changed......she shouldn't be surprised.

He wonders for a moment if this is something conjured up by the dream, though he knows that it wouldn't be. He has always been fully cognizant of his dreams, and he can tell when something is a part of them, and when it isn't. She isn't a part of this dream, this time. She's real.

That was always the problem, wasn't it?

❝ in some form. ❞ He replies, at last. The voice is familiar, even if the face isn't. It echoes around him, without having to move lips or tongue. ❝ i built this place to... ❞

To what? He has a poor habit of denying himself comforts, but this little treehouse had been crafted specifically to appeal to his desire to relax. He certainly isn't going to get comfortable here, in this strange city. That would be preposterous.

Solas presses his nose up against her hand without thinking about it, and then withdraws, massive tail thumping once on the ground, hitting the table and knocking several jars of paint off of it, which disappear before they can shatter on the floor. No, no. None of that. He turns his head away and to the side instead, so his nose is pointing out the window, and watches her with three eyes.

❝ this is not the fade, i'm sure you have realized. ❞ He says, trying to focus on something that feels like business, instead of anything else, ❝ it would be wise to be cautious. ❞

Solas is sort of in his element in dreams and nightmares, and without powers locked he's fairly strong, so he's mostly going to be running around helping others with their nightmares. That said, there's still a few things he's brought with him:

The friendly spirits that he conjured up mostly turned into demons. Primarily wraiths and shades, but with a few despair, desire and pride demons as well. Those will be loosely following him around, which means he's not staying too long in one place at a time. The biggest and scariest one is that Skyhold's Regret Demon (it looks a bit like this) popped out of his artwork of the castle and is among this number. It's pretty big and scary, looks like a wolf combined with a dragon and both of them jumped out of a painting, and gets bigger and scarier around people with a lot of guilt and regret. It will come out specifically to bully people with trauma and it'll respawn after a while if killed.

The area around him will also be breaking apart and sundering, falling apart into floating chunks of rock and such, like it's being torn up by something. Floating bits of ancient elven ruin might also appear in the areas where he's travelling.

Fade Rifts are going to show up and spit out more demons, but you might also catch glimpses of ominous, vaguely humanoid figures on the other side of them... though nothing terribly distinct.
