I can easily make it a promise, love. Or a threat. Whichever mood you are feeling tonight.
And we haven’t been here in quite a while. There may be some people who don’t know your reputation.
Jackson better like that verse. I gave him me, greasy, sweaty, and dirty, in space.

“Woah you’re looking rather outdated.”
“What kind of costume party are you coming from?”
“What year is it?”
“Is there _ in the future?”
“So what are you doing in this century.”
“Dude, dont you dare go back in time to make sure your parents don’t meet; therefore, erasing your existence! Bad idea!”
“I’m here to stop something from happening!”
“Last time you went back in time, you changed everything by accidentally starting a war so we had to go back and fix everything!”
“So do you have anything to do with the Mandela effect?”
“Take me with you! I want to go to the future with you!”
“I want to stay with you, in the past.”
“I’ve never meant someone like you in my time.”
“You seem to stick out.”
“What are you wearing? I’ve never seen anything like that!”
“You probably haven’t seen anything like it because it hasn’t been invented yet.”
“What do you mean you can’t float this car over traffic? I thought you guys at least had flying cars!”
“Shit, I ended up in the wrong year!”
“If this time traveling device ends up in the wrong hands everyone will be in trouble.”
“No! You weren’t supposed to come with me to the future!”
“I’m sorry but I wanted to come with you! I love you!”
“Hey! What are you doing!? Let go of me! If you don’t we’re both going to travel back!”
“Quick! Grab on to me now!”
“I can’t believe you brought me to your time!”
“I want to go back!”
“So the reason why I’m traveling back in time is to prevent.. your existence. As you can tell, I ended up in the wrong year.”
“I’m gonna cause what, in the future?!”
“Wanna change the future now? How about you kiss me.”
“Please tell me people stopped fucking up the planet in your time.”
“I can assure you, everyone is still stupid as fuck in the future.”
“How did you end up here! There was no traveling device in your time!”
“Here. Take this. So you can visit me in the future anytime.”

He had long ago given up on blending in perfectly.
Anymore, John Harrison settled on passing. He was always going to have mannerisms that struck others as old fashioned, no matter what the year on the calendar said. He had come to terms with that a long time ago. It didn’t seem to matter who you were, people were always looking for something off.
So if his accent was slightly different, his turns of phrase just a little archaic, it no longer bothered him. There was no fear of ostracism, no worry that he would be found out. The same skepticism that made anyone take note of such things would never allow anyone to believe the truth about him. It was a perfect Catch-22. He remembered reading that novel for the first time, blown away by how perfect the concept was, now with a name.
There were many ways that he and Jackson funded themselves. An easy one, he had found, was as a museum consultant. He was able to provide analysis that was much more accurate than many acclaimed experts, and getting an accreditation on the sly with a few major corporations had been easy. They also invested, of course, and those dividends paid the majority of anything needed. Time was money, they said.
That was why he stood now, looking at an object in this new-to-him museum that had been labeled as a ritual object, and chuckling. If only they knew. Perhaps he would tell them?
Ashildr liked museums. There was so much of her past that she couldn’t remember, things she’d let herself forget that seemed better forgotten at the time that now she wished she still remembered. Museums made it much harder to forget.
They were also a very convenient place for her to offload random keepsakes that no longer mattered, but that could get her a decent enough payday to keep her in the lifestyle she preferred.
Being trapped on the slow path was frustrating enough without running the risk of also being broke.
She was starting to regret that she hadn’t collected more modern art. That was certainly selling better these days.
“Excuse me?” She looked from one of the objects to the man looking at the object. “Do you work here? I have a meeting with the head of Collections. My family are rather…large donors.” Well, her family was just her. But she’d cycled through names enough times for it to seem like it was her family.
John mused for a few moments longer on if he should correct the museums identification. He decided in the meantime to pull out his phone - something he was still getting used to having, in modern times - and snap a picture to send to his partner. Jackson would be amused at that. He was trying to figure out just how to send the text, something that still took him a minute despite his affinity with technology, when he noticed he wasn’t alone in the room. A moment later he was addressed, and he put the phone away, looking up with a polite smile.
“Oh, alas, no, that’s not me.” He said with a bow of his head, a hand on his chest. “Though I was wondering myself if I should set up a meeting. I’m a consultant from time to time.” He glanced the young woman over, his smile staying in place. “That’s wonderful that you and your family donate. I find the most interesting items always come from private collections.”
His own private collection was small, as he insisted on not taking as much as they could. Jackson, though, couldn’t help himself from time to time, much to John’s chagrin. They still had quite a few small souvenirs, as his partner put it.
