What Kind of Lube?
Lubricant is a wonderful thing, it reduces friction and adds another sensation to your play - with certain types of sexual activity, it is often even a necessity.
Before you pick up any lubricant off of the shelf, consider a few things first:
Ingredients - know which to avoid if you are sensitive/allergic to some
Preferences - do you prefer creams, gels or liquids?
What kind of activity you will be using it for
If you're planning on enjoying anal play
*Thicker lubricants are generally better for anal play because they provide some extra comfort; silicone lubricants are also a popular choice because they don't dry out.
Water-based Lubricants with Glycerine
Glycerine (aka glycerol) is a "sugar alcohol."
They rinse out of the body easily and are equally easy to clean up
They are also compatible with condoms, and virtually any sex toy (even silicone)
Because they stay "slick" longer, water-based gel lubricants work well for anal sex (and fisting) - however they don't last as long as silicone.
It's sweeter tasting - but it can also feel a little sticky on the skin when they dry out.
Cannot use them in the shower, bath, etc.
They may stain your linens and towels
Water-based lubricants are not recommended for women who are sensitive or prone to chronic yeast infections.
Water-based Lubricants without Glycerine
Rinse off/out of the body easily and are easy to clean up
Condom compatible and can be used with virtually any sex toy
Are not effective in the bath, shower, etc.
Are safe to use for those prone to yeast infections
They are prone to drying up faster than other types of lubricants and can feel sticky on the skin.
They tend to taste more bitter
Silicone-based Lubricants
They last longer than water-based lube
They feel more like oil than a water-based lube and they never get sticky to the touch
It's a cost-effective lubricant choice because a "little bit goes a long way" - however they usually cost more then their water-based counterparts
Use them for massages or in the water
They are more difficult to rinse off and out of the body
Silicone-based lubricants can compromise the integrity of silicone, soft-skin or cyberskin toys
