Independent Roleplay Blog for Spinel from Pokemon Horizons. There are some details in my version of Spinel which is different from canon. Please read my About and Rules before interacting.

Blog currently focusing on the aftermath of the Kalos arc plotline. A situation where Spinel is temporarily free from Malamar's hold on him. Tagged as: #strings severed by bonds [Kalos arc aftermath] other main verse threads are currently set before this occurred. See verse page.

Freedom came at a surprising small cost for Malamar. It had already planned revenge on all of those who dare separate it from its' property, and humiliate it so thoroughly. First, it wanted to reclaim its' puppet.

WHERE ARE YOU.

The psychic power it emitted traveled far for one purpose alone... Spinel recoiled at his desk, his focus on his work faltering as he was overwhelmed by a headache strong enough to almost cause a loss of consciousness.

[ Attempting Synonozation. → 5% → 10% → 0% ]

What did they do? It can't find him.

A gasp as the attempt was revoked, suffering fading as Spinel took a few gasping breaths. Thankfully he was seated when that occurred. Umbreon nudged him gently, helping him return to reality.

"What happened?"

Was he working too much?

Beep. Beep.

His phone lit up. A welcome distraction as he read the message Thea sent him.

"... It doesn't sound as if I have a choice," he chuckled to himself as he rubbed his face, his eyes falling to his laptop.

Spinel is pleased he'll be able to bring it, as he still doesn't plan on putting a pause on his project.

"Umbreon, we have some preparations to do."

[velvet-voiced]

I might write something later/tomorrow now Malamar is free, I feel like Spinel would have some sort of reaction to it

Spinel placed a hand on his chest, just to be clear he thinks himself the talented one. His faked annoyance is soon lost, and the smirk he was holding back showed itself.

"Perhaps then you'll be able to accomplish something. Wouldn't want to let everyone around you down again, I am certain."

[velvet-voiced]

Lugia has learned of the director's weakness. Intent on using it once again, the voice that fills Spinel's head is laden with hostility; oppressively heavy and painful as the oceanic guardian looms above him with a hiss.

You tempt fate too much. I will not tolerate it any longer. [ @thedaarkestgale ]

Does she do this to everyone? He had to wonder. Spine is unaware of his own weakness, and so assumed this was the result of a powerful legend speaking directly into his mind a little too harshly.

That scream was painful, and he still isn't fully recovered.

"I don't believe in fate. I believe in the truth that science provides us."

"There is nothing wrong with wanting to learn more about you. Hiding within the ocean will gain you nothing. Do you not also want to know more about yourself? About Shadow Pokemon?"

He sighed.

"I care little for what you tolerate."

His link to Malamar comes with 'benefits'

Deep focus, and able to work without breaks and little sleep while productivity is not lost. This none stop ability makes him able to move very quickly during his research, and experiments

Sleep need in general reduced greatly. Around 3 hours would be enough

Watching multiple screens/different sources of data at once and not missing any details not matter how small despite the attention split

Reading vast amounts swiftly, and remembering every word

Detachment from emotions, but more importantly for Malamar, the removal of fear which in itself is a double edged sword

Protection from other influences because he is Malamar's puppet; >:V other Psychic Types stay away. Unless you're more powerful than it is, in which case it will hide

100% not worth the cost of corruption, and being linked to a being which has its' psychic influence take hold over your mind, and body. While also able to control your thoughts, suppressing/altering memories.

During this blog arc where the two are apart for a time, he can still tap into this if he gives into the remaining influence lingering if needed. Though he'll have Umbreon on standby to use Bite as pain will wake him up. As he recovers, he'll lose the ability. The malice is aimed towards getting back at Exceed while it remains, and benefiting his work as he tries to make amends. It's very much a "I'm using what they did to me against them while I can."

Which could be painful later on when Malamar is released, as it won't come to him right away, it'll need the right moment. Meanwhile, he's wondering why he's started slipping into that again as he thought he'd healed enough to move past it.

How to show loneliness in a character rather than tell it:

lots of internal monologue and even dialogue with oneself

social awkwardness

despite longing for connection, avoiding it because they are not used to it

or: seeking connection anywhere they can, even in the tiny interactions with employees and strangers

making their home a very comforting space since they spend so much time in it

not feeling invited to activities unless explicitly told they are, and even then doubting it

not even considering the possibility of talking to someone

feeling warmth in their chest after a good talk with someone, only for it to twist into dread and doubt later on
