RE2R Leon Kennedy x Reader
A glimpse into the date night of an eager Leon and a nervous Reader.
Getting ready for a date shouldn't be hard…right?
That's what you told yourself the evening of your date with Leon.
Before your shift at work ended, you asked Leon where exactly he had made reservations. All the blonde did was say, "Oh, wear whatever. You look beautiful in anything anyway."
That would have been sweeter if you weren’t currently panicking about being underdressed.
Jill went shopping with you after work to help you. It took almost two hours for you to settle on a red dress that flowed down to your calves. Nothing too fancy, but pretty. It was either that or have Jill yell at you in front of the mall's poor teenage employees for another hour.
Leon was supposed to arrive in an hour, leaving you just about enough time to style your hair and put on some makeup. It wouldn't have taken you so long if it weren't for your trembling hands.
You tried calming yourself with music, letting Michael Jackson and Beyoncé distract your anxious mind while you styled your hair. As it was the beginning of summer, you chose to go light on the makeup. You didn't want any foundation melting onto your food.
"You rocked my world, you know you did," you sang loudly, looking into your bathroom mirror to put on the last step of your routine, your lip products. "And everything I own I give-"
"Oh hell!" you jump and run out of the bathroom. Quickly putting on your kitten heels, you stop in front of your apartment door. You stop to take a breath and finally open the door.
"Hey Leon-Oh!" Fully expecting to see Leon's face, you were greeted by a giant bouquet of crocheted roses right in your face.
Leon sheepishly peeks from behind the bouquet, "Hi…I got these for you because these can't die like real ones, ya know?"
"Thanks," you blinked before taking the bouquet carefully. "These are actually really cute." You place them on the table near your door before grabbing your purse.
Leon grinned. "They won't die like how my feelings for you-"
"Let's get a move on, Leon." You pat his arm to stop him from saying something ridiculous.
The two of you walk out of your apartment building, a breeze cooling you down in the summer evening.
"You look pretty. I mean, you always do! I…never get to see you in a dress." Leon compliments you eagerly.
"Thanks. You look…" your eyes travel over him briefly. His face and hair were perfect as always. Honestly, Leon looked less like a cop and more like the kind of man you'd see in a department store catalog. His outfit was a dark blue button-down shirt and dress pants.
Leon notices you look down at your dress with embarrassment. "Something wrong?"
"I-I think I underdressed for this…"
Your dress was cute, but Leon's outfit made it painfully obvious he'd chosen somewhere nicer than a casual little restaurant.
"Shit! Oh, I am so sorry," Leon turns to you with a red face. "That's probably why you asked me where we were going. I am such an idiot."
Seeing him react so emotionally to your embarrassment made your stomach feel fuzzy.
He continued, "Um, if you want, you have time to change into another dress?! I mean, I may need to speed a little-"
"No, it's alright," you smiled. His willingness to find a solution to your issue calmed down your worry of looking out of place at the restaurant. "As long as they don't have a strict dress code, I should be fine."
Leon only relaxed after making you promise you were comfortable going inside.
"My lady," Leon rushed over to the passenger side of his Jeep to open the door for you. He holds his hand out, ready to help you climb in.
"Well, aren't you a gentleman?" You take his hand and settle inside. As you buckle in, you catch Leon flexing his hand while he closes your door. You take a look around the car's interior. The inside of the Jeep was spotless, and a eucalyptus-and-bergamot air freshener hung from the rear-view mirror. You didn’t know many men who cared this much about how their car looked — or smelled.
Leon slightly raised the volume on his car's radio, and you can hear the first few notes of your favorite album. He glanced at you as he drove, "I, uh, overheard you talking about this album to Officer Valentine."
Your heart jumped. You talked about this album to her a month ago, and he remembered.
"It's your car. You can play whatever you want to listen to."
He shook his head, "No, it's okay. I like it. I want to focus on you today anyway."
"Oh." Heat creeps into your face immediately.
Leon must have caught it from the way he chuckled. You two made small talk, mostly about work, until you made it to the restaurant. You’d had a feeling the restaurant would be expensive once Leon started driving toward the wealthier side of the city.
He helps you out of the car before opening the restaurant door for you. He goes up to the hostess for the reservations as you observe the restaurant. It smelled delicious in there, and the dim lighting added to the atmosphere. Your stomach twisted a little when you noticed how much more formally dressed the other women were.
"Don't worry," Leon gently takes your arm. With a reassuring smile, he motions for you to follow him and the hostess. The woman guides you two upstairs and into a private dining room.
"Leon…" He sits you down at the table as the woman leaves you alone, "This must have cost you a lot. We could have sat down with everyone else downstairs or gone somewhere else. That would have been perfectly fine with me."
He shakes his head, "No, I know you deserve the best. If I can provide the best for you, then I will. I just…" Leon looked away briefly, a faint blush dusting his face. "I want to take care of you. I'm a provider."
Silence filled the dim room until your cackle broke it. "Oh, Leon," you dab a tear from your eye, "you are so cute!"
Calling him cute out loud should’ve embarrassed you more, but Leon’s laughter softens the sting instantly.
"Alright, alright,” Leon muttered through a grin. “It wasn’t that funny.” He finally calmed down as the waiter walked in to take their orders.
You watched as Leon spoke to the waiter. Sure, you’d always known Leon was attractive, but you were only now noticing the smaller details that made him beautiful to you. Faint acne scars dusted his face, and small moles spotted his neck in places you’d never paid attention to before.
"So," Leon turns back to you once the waiter left, "You never did tell me why you agreed to go on a date with me. Did I finally wear you down?”
You sigh, bringing your glass of wine to your lips, "No…Well sort of. You were a tad bit annoying. Jill made me realize that you could be worse." Leon watched as you set down your drink. "She also told me to stop restricting myself from things that could make me happy just because I am scared."
"Huh…" Leon hummed with a smile on his face. "It still sounds like I was a bit annoying, wasn't I?"
A smirk formed on your face, "Very much so. It isn't so bad though. At least it was the RPD's pretty boy being a nuisance and not someone else."
He laughed quietly, shaking his head. "So I really was bothering you that whole time, huh?"
You tease back, "Oh, absolutely. You made work oh so dreadful." Giggling at your own sarcasm, your hand gently smacked the table.
You glance down in surprise when Leon carefully intertwines your fingers.
"Is this alright?" The blonde asked, looking at you with a soft tone to his voice.
Was this the happiness that Jill told you not to be afraid of? Was a small moment like this worth a possible heartbreak? What if she was right, and no heartache occurred, but a lifetime of happiness took its place? After a moment of collecting yourself, you nod, "Yes. Yes, this is perfectly alright."
Suddenly, The waiter returned moments later with your food, forcing Leon to let go — though not before his thumb brushed once against your knuckles.
So much for not falling for your co-worker.
