LUMINE
"no- fuck!" i screamed, annoyed. my bus had just left, leaving me at the school with barely anyone around. my house wasn't even that far of a walk, but i didn't feel like walking twenty minutes. especially with it still being humid and hot in the middle of september. "guess your bus left you." scaramouche's voice came from behind me, irritating me even further.
i turned around aggressively, my actions letting him know i wasn't in the best mood. "shut up." i didn't have enough energy to scream at him, so i just started walking out of the schools campus. he followed after me, a stupid grin on his face. "i still have the baby... and you have to take it tonight." he pointed at his backpack, letting me hear the muffled cries of the dumb toy. "i don't want to. and i don't care about your stupid party." i crossed my arms, stopping in my tracks.
"too bad, you're taking the baby." scaramouche already started to unzip his backpack, reaching into it for the baby. i slapped his hands away from the zipper of his bag, making him flinch a little. "i'm not taking the fucking baby." my voice got louder, my body aching to just be in my bed.
his grin turned into a smirk as he held his hands up. stupid boy. "someone's mad." his comment just made me want to blow up even more, but i really had no more energy in me. taking a deep breath, i pinched the bridge of my nose, trying to collect myself. "maybe because my bus just left me, my house is a twenty minute walk away from here, oh, and you're annoying me about the stupid baby."
his smirk didn't falter, it in fact, stayed on his face. it was like he enjoyed seeing me irritated. he took my wrist, just gently holding it. "the fuck?" he didn't say anything to my exclamation, he just silently led me to his car. "i'll drive you home."
"oh, is scaramouche feeling kind?" i walked over to the passengers side, cocking my eyebrow at him. he shrugged, opening the car door for me. "eh." his gesture surprised me, i've never seen him be somewhat a gentleman.
i got into his car, just a little surprised about how it looked. i thought it would be messy, unkept. but to my surprise, it was actually quite neat. he got into the drivers seat, starting the car. "i'm surprised your car's clean." i commented, putting my seatbelt on. he scoffed, looking at me. "i might be messy about a few things, but i don't play about my car." i rolled my eyes at his response. of course he was one of those guys that were obsessed with their car.
"where do you live?" he tapped his fingers on the screen in the middle, pulling up waze. "xx xxxx xx" he typed the address into the keyboard, starting to drive out of the parking lot.
the car ride was silent for the first two minutes, but once he got comfortable, he started being annoying again. he would bring up how boring my life was as usual. seriously, it was getting old. "it's a friday night, you should be doing something fun." he made a sharp turn, startling me. "staying home is fun."
at my statement, scaramouche let out a loud laugh, like he couldn't believe me. "you should learn how to party, be outside." i rolled my eyes again. partying was really all he ever talked about.
when we made it to my house, he also got out of the car, walking me to the door. "you're so gentlemanly." i teased, not even unlocking the front door yet. scaramouche chuckled, reaching for his backpack. "eh... you're not going to be saying that when i do this." he took the baby out quickly, shoving it into my hands and running back to his car.
"what the fuck?!" i ran after him, but my reaction skills were so horrible, he had already drove off. the baby cried in my hands, making me throw my head back. "oh my gosh... he's actually a bitch bro." i walked back to the front door, my feet dragging against the ground. the baby's cries grew louder, and so did the thoughts of finding scaramouche's address and dropping the baby off at his house.

i threw my phone on my bed, frustrated. the baby was still screaming and i needed some moral support for tonight. picking up my phone again, i clicked onto hu tao's contact, ready to vent my frustrations out.

"oh my gosh." i stared at the screaming, toy baby. it was so accurate, technology really is advanced. "you're keeping it tonight." scaramouche pushed the baby towards me, a disgusted look on his face. "no i'm not! you're the one who has it first! did you not look at the schedule?" i paused after asking that, i already knew the answer.
"no?" he looked at me like he didn't even know what schedule i was talking about. "what schedule?" the rage that filled my body was just... too much. "what? i gave it to you yesterday!" i was waiting for him to say something, maybe even change his expression.
he rolled his eyes, groaning. "it doesn't even matter. i can't take it tonight. i'm going to a party." of course he was partying. when is he not? i took a deep breath, taking the baby and shoving it into his hands. scaramouche dropped it immediately, letting it drop to the floor. "scaramouche, lumine, not looking good for your grade." mr. thoma walked past us, making a brief comment.
i took a handful of his hair, pulling his head towards mine. "i will not be getting a bad grade on this dumbass project just because of you." the words that were in my head couldn't leave my mouth when he looked up at me, staring into my eyes. "... so get your shit together." i finished, letting go of his hair and wiping my hands on my sweatpants. "you messed up my fucking hair." scaramouche put emphasis on the curse word as he ran his fingers through his hair, grumbling.
"i don't fucking care." i copied the way he emphasized the word, it was funny. he looked at me, opened his mouth like he was going to say something, then turned back to his laptop, continuing his game of snake. "so we agree that you're taking the baby tonight?" i picked the baby up from the floor, throwing it in his lap. he sighed, tsking. "i told you that i can't. i have a party." he looked down at the baby in his lap, laughing at how ugly it looked.
"i don't care that you have a party. you're taking the baby." scaramouche laughed at me, closing the snake tab. "fuck no. you probably have no plans tonight. just take the baby." he closed his laptop before continuing, "now that i think about it, you never have plans. i've never seen you at any party since freshman year. do you even have friends?"
"parties aren't my thing. and yes...? of course i have friends. i have... hu tao and xiao." xiao was my best friend since we were in pre-school. he was the first person to talk to me and become my friend in pre-school. hu tao came along in freshman year, we formed a close bond when we were in all the same classes together in sophomore year. "you're still friends with xiao? i remember you two were always sitting in a corner together in pre-school."
i looked at the clock, it was two minutes until the period ended. "yes, he's my best friend." i took my folder and my laptop, putting them into my backpack. "how come i see him at parties and not you?"
"i told you, parties have never been my thing." i shrugged, putting my backpack into my lap. "maybe you just don't get invited to them." he smirked, crossing his arms. the baby was still in his lap, still looking ugly. "even if i did, i wouldn't go."
scaramouche took the baby, stuffing it into his backpack. "i'm not taking the baby tonight." he reminded me. "hm, we'll see." i flipped my hair, standing up and pushing my chair in. "your life is actually so miserable. i looked through your posts on instagram, you don't do shit bro." he crossed his arms again, leaning against the table. i gave him a weird look, cocking my eyebrow. "why are you looking through my instagram?"
he shrugged, tilting his head. "just curious." i sighed, "you're always curious."

LUMINE
home economics was always the most boring class. that was my opinion. my teacher adored me, a majority of my teachers do, so i felt bad whenever i talked about home economics in a bad way. it wasn't my fault though, i just wasn't interested into the class.
glancing at the clock, i get disappointed again. we were only ten minutes into the period and i found myself wanting to leave already. "this project will be worth twenty percent of your grade. think of it as a midterm in the beginning of the year." i finally zoned back into what mr. thoma was saying, trying to focus. "it's the project you've all been waiting for..." he pauses, motioning for us to do a drumroll. once he was satisfied with what he heard, he continued again, "it's the baby project!"
a groan was let out by every student in that classroom. no one wanted to do the baby project. who wanted to have an annoying, crying, accurate toy baby with them at all times?
"no offense, mr. thoma, but no one wants to do that project." scaramouche, the bitch i hated the most, spoke up. i agreed with him, but i hated that i did. it was annoying knowing that the most insufferable person i know has the same opinion as me. "well you might not want to do it, but you have to. especially since this could raise your grade, and you especially need that right now." mr. thoma clasped his hands together, glaring at scaramouche jokingly.
"of course he's failing." i mumbled under my breath, not even surprised. "i already made your partners, so don't even think about partnering up with your friends." as he spoke, the pairs that he made popped up on the smartboard.
some people groaned seeing their partners, some were happy. i was apart of the majority that wasn't happy with their partner. it was like the world was against me lately. "seriously?" i heard scaramouche complain from the back of the classroom. "i am very serious, scaramouche. you two will either work together or you will both fail. and we know lumine won't let herself ever have a failing grade." mr. thoma looked at me and pressed his lips into a thin smile.
he always acknowledged that i was a determined student. even when i hated the assignment, i always got it done. i'd never let myself have anything under a ninety. "you will get your baby tomorrow. for now, i want you all to sit with your partners everyday until the project has ended."
"how long is the project?" lohen, scaramouches best friend, raised his hand. "about six weeks, i want you all to really earn a sense of responsibility." mr. thoma looked around the room, checking for anyone else who had questions. when he saw that no one else raised their hands, he gave the whole class a nod to sit with our partners.
i stayed in my seat, not wanting to sit with scaramouche. "can you come and sit?" scaramouche's voice ran through my ears, along with the sound of paper being crumpled up. i turned around, only to be met with a paper ball in my face. "oops, shouldn't have turned around." a chuckle left his mouth, irritating me even further. "you're a bitch." i grumbled, standing up.
"and you're another b word, boring." he kicked the seat next to him towards me, crumpling up another piece of paper. "don't throw that at me again." i pointed an accusing finger at him, sitting down. "relax, lumine. i got another target." his eyes narrowed at mr. thoma, smirking. i took the paper ball from scaramouche, earning myself an annoyed sigh from him. "y'know, i'm surprised you're smart. aren't blondes supposed to be dumb?"
i looked at him with an annoyed expression. "you're so annoying." i took two pieces of paper out, including a pen. i wrote 'home ec project' at the top, making sure my handwriting was a little bigger than usual so that it could be legible.
"these dates are when i have the baby, and when you have the baby." i paused for a second before looking at him. "can you take your laptop out and look at what he posted so that we know how the project even works?" based on his facial expression. it was like my request was the hardest thing to do. "can't. don't feel like it."
i took a deep breath, taking my laptop out instead. "then you can just tell me what he posted." i logged onto my laptop, shoving it to his side of the table. he scoffed, slouching in his chair. "bossy." he skimmed through the reading, quickly scrolling through the document. "we just have to take turns with the baby... uh... mr. thoma can see if we're taking care of it... i dunno... something about him having a thing connected to the baby and his laptop..." hearing him read the instructions, i decided that i'll waste my time later and read it at home. at least that way i'll know i won't miss anything that i have to do.
i finished writing the dates on both papers, handing him one of them. "don't lose this." i warned, making him roll his eyes. "uh-huh. i won't." he shoved the paper in his backpack, not even caring to put it in a folder. "oh and if you can't take care of the baby on a specific day, tell me at least two days in advance."
"we also need a meeting place." i was too busy planning out how this project was going to work between us that i didn't even notice scaramouche had taken his phone out, placing it on the desk. "uh-huh... put your instagram on my phone so that we can talk about the project or something." he wasn't even looking at me as he spoke, he was making weird faces to lohen, who was on the other side of the classroom.
this is going to be a long six weeks.
