They're both infected by the virus, they're stuck, literally and figuratively and they have neither any strength to fight, nor any inkling of how they are going to tackle this.

What gives you strength when you think you can't go anymore?

What gives you hope when you think the road ends here?

What gives you determination to stand up once again after you've been beaten countless times?

Love.

Love is strength. Love is hope. Love is determination.

What he's really saying here is, Fight, beloved, fight, because I believe in you, in us, we're going to get up and get out of here. I won't let you give up here, I won't let you be defeated to anything because you have shown me what strength is, and I hope I can give it back to you when you need it the most.

... I'll never forgive you.

Why does he bring up forgiveness?

Two people who have been fighting their entire lives to find forgiveness. One, who almost nearly gave his life several times to save others— in order to find forgiveness. One, who's taken countless lives— in order to find forgiveness.

Forgiveness, is love.

Who knows better than Akutagawa, that people, who so desperately want to be loved, actually want to be forgiven?

And Atsushi does fight, Atsushi does give him an answer.

Yeah, this is love alright.
