Wind Waker Magic
The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker makes use of music much like other installments in the series. In the game, Link utilizes the mystical Wind Waker, a conducting baton handed down in the royal family and used to conduct the Sages in songs to the Goddesses. He uses it to control the wind, which allows him to sail the Great Sea with ease.
Using the Songs
Each song in the Wind Waker serves to control the wind or affect objects in some way. They can also be used by the mudoran witch to achieve similar results. All you need is your voice and your finger.
The Wind’s Requiem is the first song Link learns. Taught to him by the Wind God Zephos, it can change the direction of the wind. By whistling or humming the song, you can alter the wind’s direction as well.
Using your index finger, make the conducting motions for the Wind’s Requiem while whistling (or humming) the song itself. As you do so, imagine the wind blowing in the direction you wish it to go. The wind may stop before changing direction. This can take practice to master, so pick a windy day when you first start out.
The Ballad of Gales is taught to Link by the Wind God Cyclos after striking him with an arrow. It calls a cyclone that can teleport Link anywhere on the Great Sea. While we can’t call cyclones, we can use it to call up a strong wind! You may even be able to call a storm if the conditions are right.
Similar to Wind’s Requiem, whistle or hum the song while conducting with your finger. Imagine a strong gusty breeze blowing past you, or a series of gusts.
The Earth God’s Lyric and the Wind God’s Aria serve similar purposes. Link uses them to awaken the Earth Sage (Medli) and the Wind Sage (Makar), and by conducting for them as they play the songs, restore power to the Master Sword. The songs can be used together to charge objects or to provide a temporary energy boost.
In the same manner as before, whistle or hum the song while performing the conducting motions. To provide an energy boost. Use one song for a small boost, or both songs in succession for a bigger one. To charge an object, hold it in your hand and imagine it filling with energy and light, shining brighter with each note.
