Hi everyone, long time no post. :)
I wanted to take on a fun personal project, as I've been finding it hard to commit to doing personal art in my spare time. I decided to do a 'Historical Disney Princess' series because I love historical fashion, and I want to have some costume design stuff in my portfolio. I picked Disney because many of their films have a historical setting, and adapting an existing design requires less brain power from me LOL. I'm aware that Claire Hummel (and I'm sure a few other artists) did a wonderful 'Historical Disney' series in the past, but I really wanted to have a go as well! Hopefully not stepping on any toes here!
The first one that I've finished is Rapunzel from Tangled. Since her outfit is vaguely medieval, and Aurora is also from the medieval times, I decided I would move Rapunzel to another time period. I chose the 1630's, which was the publication date for an Italian version of 'Rapunzel'. Maybe it's a bit random, but I really like this period of fashion history! I love the huge sleeves, the high waists, the spaniel-y hairstyles! For her hair, I referenced Rubens' paintings of Venus.
Thanks for looking! :)
