As someone who has plummeted headfirst into the bloodmary/project hail mary fandoms and loves starset a bit too much… I cannot stop thinking about them when it comes to otherworldly. If I had animatic skills I would but I do not so I shall rant instead.
One of the first lines is literally “You’re like an angel’s song”. Enough said lol.
But the overall use of astronomy words with a hint of religion (assuming you associate the presence of unfamiliar light with that of angels/heaven) just screams Simon to me. The way the whole song is about someone declaring their love, dedication, and wonder towards the speaker reminds me so much of the characterization I see of Simon when it comes to Grace. Especially with how the song uses the word “otherworldly” to both describe and unknown feeling and an unknown place which is *literally what happens when one makes up science to get Simon and Grace to meet in the first place*.
I feel like the bridge really touches on how I imagine them getting to know each other, even beyond Simon’s perspective. “But you didn't need to hear me/‘Cause you were supraliminal/Knew me without an uttered word”, it’s almost like Simon views Grace as holy or godlike with his abilities (like his knowledge of science and space) and finds comfort in how Grace adjusts to Simon’s needs so quickly.
Anyways this is just silly interpretations of both the source materials and the song and I could probably do a line by line dissection but I already know this is like mega niche lol
