Hi! You mentioned a while ago that another chapter of TF would come out, and I was wondering if that was still a thing? I know it’s been a long time but TF and Desperato are so good and it would be really great to hear more about it. If not, that’s cool too. :)
Hey!! :) Yep, it’s coming! The chapter is abouuuut 75% complete - sorry it’s taken so long!! I pick it back up and then life takes a huge dump on me and then I pick it up again and then life takes a huge---
You get the picture ;) I’m working from home part-time atm but I’m trying to make the most of the current situation and use the remaining time to save money be creative. Writers block has been slamming me as much as life lately but I’m determined to get it out in May!
Thanks so much for still being interested and supporting me!! I don’t deserve you guys honestly
Any idea what happened to bluu the author who wrote trial by fire 🔥 she hasn’t posted in like 11 months and I hope she’s okay!!!
HAHAHA can you tell i haven’t checked my asks in a while??
since i got this ask, trial by fire has obviously been updated and everyone (INCLUDING ME) was shoooooook! what a lovely surprise!
but dw, she’s good. being going through some stuff irl, mostly VERY busy with school and preparing for being a badass career woman in an industry that requires her to work this hard. we’ve spoken since the update and she’s determined to finish the fic so hopefully we’ll see more soon :)
so I’ve had a few messages/asks about the 90s drift au i originally mentioned a helluva while back, now. i tossed out the idea of maybe posting an excerpt of what i had already and people seemed into it, so here you go! no iwa-chan yet, i’m afraid!
Tooru can’t help but feel a little resentful. ‘A few months ago’, he’d been heading back to Tokyo to start his second year at Keio University. He was the one getting out of Miyagi, he was supposed to be the one embarking an exciting life, and yet Takahiro was here apparently attending clandestine meetups with illegal street racers. It’s so typical of Hanamaki to stumble upon the most exciting (and dangerous) brand of fun going.
“It’s kind of a boom across the country, I guess,” Takahiro explains, oblivious to Oikawa’s thoughts. Unusually, it’s enough to bring Oikawa out of his gloomy mood - it is an interesting topic, after all. “It’s been going on for years from what I hear. There’s people in Tokyo, o’course, and a lot of people travel to Gunma or Nagano Prefecture for the roads. Miyagi’s scene is smaller, but apparently there’s some pretty good spots here for local guys.”
They’re out of the city now, and for a Saturday night there’s surprisingly few cars on the roads. Maybe he’d just gotten used to Tokyo and it’s never-ending activity.
“So what is it, exactly?” He asks, caving in to his own curiosity. Takahiro knows him too well for him to try and put up a disinterested front.
“Bunch o’ guys who’ve modified their cars to go crazy fast, drift around corners, all that stuff.”
“...Drift?”
Hanamaki’s toothy grin gleams in the street lights that flit in through the car windows as they whizz past.
“You’ll see.”
Out in the mountains, there aren’t many streetlights. There’s little point - the roads are quiet at the best of times, since the majority of people live in the city. Even the locals don’t have much need to drive at night, making the cost of installation hardly worth it. That’s why Tooru is so surprised when after driving in darkness for twenty minutes up an incline, they clear a bend and there’s a wash of light. He never would have guessed that around the side of the hill there was a parking area full of cars with beaming headlights if he hadn’t been taken right to it. Turning that corner feels a little like entering another world.
Hanamaki pulls the Toyota into a space left between two other vehicles, and even if Tooru knew anything about cars, the headlights would still be too bright to determine their models. Hanamaki’s teeth once again flash in the darkness as he kills the car’s engine and sends a grin Oikawa’s way.
“Welcome to the secret world of car delinquents,” he croons, opening his door and swinging his legs out, the rest of his body rocking up and out of the car in a single motion. Oikawa swallows and follows him out, heart rate increasing.
It’s more than a little warm out; typical for a mid-August evening. The air feels heavy with the lingering humidity of the day as Tooru walks to Hanamaki’s side, who’s already nodding at a couple of people as his sharp eyes search the space.
There’s more than a few cars, maybe fifteen or so if Oikawa had to guess. Someone’s playing a radio somewhere, and the grainy music filters through the gaps in the hushed but lively conversations going on in the lot, which Oikawa thinks is probably a rest spot or a space for hikers to park their vehicles in the daytime. The sky is an inky blanket above them all, the quiet but humid summer night muffling the meeting and hiding it from view.
Gravel crunches beneath their beat-up sneakers as they cross the area, cutting through headlights as they do, until Hanamaki reaches a dark red car. Its lights are on, bugs dancing in their beams. The doors are flung open, but there’s no one there when Hanamaki ducks his head to look in.
“Hm,” Hanamaki hums, planting his hands on his hips. “Not like him,” he says to himself, craning his neck to look around them before turning to Oikawa with a grin. Without taking his hands from his hips or otherwise changing his stance, he raises one leg up and bends it at the knee, his foot hanging suspended in the air. “Wanna see a magic trick?” he asks.
Oikawa frowns in confusion, but Hanamaki’s grin just widens before he stretches his leg out, foot about to land on the car’s hood when they hear the skittering of pebbles behind them.
Oikawa blinks, and when his eyes focus again there’s a large hand gripping Hanamaki’s calf, stopping his leg with just an inch until the sole of his shoe lands on the car’s paint job.
The owner of the hand is crouched down to accommodate the hold, and he doesn’t straighten up until he’s pushed Hanamaki away and sent him stumbling back a few steps said man cackles.
“How many times?” the person asks in a deep baritone, and Oikawa is surprised by the height of him when he finally straightens up, almost seeming to loom in the darkness.
Hanamaki’s still snickering as he sidles back up to Oikawa, throwing a long arm around his shoulders.
“Matsukawa,” he greets in a lecherous drawl, and Oikawa rolls his eyes because he knows that tone of voice. Hanamaki is flirting. “How are you?”
“Fine now that my wax job hasn’t been compromised,” the man replies, turning and shoving his hands in his pockets so Oikawa can finally see his face. “Thought you weren’t coming tonight.”
Short, curly black hair, thick eyebrows and heavy-lidded eyes. He could have been intimidating, especially with the amateur lighting throwing dramatic shadows onto his features, but the way he’d just dramatically protected his car from Hanamaki’s antics stops Oikawa from being all that cautious of him.
“Yeah, because of this guy,” Hanamaki explains, tilting his head to the side to knock his temple with Oikawa’s. With an impatient roll of his eyes Oikawa squirms away, tutting as he runs his fingers through his hair. “But I figured I’d just bring him. This is an old kouhai of mine, Oi-- well, just call him Tooru. Tooru, this is Matsukawa.”
*spoilers* Looks like Oikawa is making an appearance in the latest haikyuu chapter!!! So excited ^_^
Ahhhh I really need to catch up with haikyuu!! I got super burnt out with keeping up during the matches (coincidentally with daiya too) but I see stuff all the time on twitter so I guess I need to catch up now!!
To be honest I didn’t even know fictober was a thing until this ask! 😂 so thanks for bringing it to my attention!
I haven’t checked out the inktober prompts this year (if they’re different.... lmao) but I’ll check out the lists and see if anything catches my eye!! I have a lot on my plate WIP-wise at the moment though so I’m not sure!!
Hey ver ! Sometime back you mentioned something about writing a 90’s drift au. I was waiting for you to write about it but it looks like it never took off ? Do you plan on writing that or is it like dropped ?
hey, howzit!
good question! i actually wrote quite a bit of that au and i really loved the vibe i had going but i realised that the draft of the drift au that exists now is... quite similar to teenage fever 😂 😓 as i continue to write TF i’m like... huh, well damn! i guess i just like certain tropes and plot devices haha!!
hopefully i’ll be able to continue with it/rework it sometime soon! but admittedly continuing teenage fever and working on the fics people have very kindly commissioned from me (😍) are my current priorities! if people are interested i can post a preview though 😈
Do you think a haikyuu gossip girl au would work ?
me, whispering: i haven’t watched gossip girl
but I’d say it’s very likely!! As long as the fic/characters weren’t super americanised (my number one pet peeve in fandom, especially with social media aus on twitter) I think it could work!
I’d certainly be interested in reading something like that!
I recently did a rec list of some of my faves here but it’s by no means exclusive!!
Generally what I love are fics with great characterisations, and/or with embellished/developed worlds that I can really imagine the characters living in. For shorter things I like a well-crafted atmosphere!!
my favorite iwaoi tropes are definitely focused around their strong bond with each other bc let’s face it, that’s what makes iwaoi a god-tier otp
so like: friends to lovers (ESPECIALLY if the transition is so slow they don’t realise it or they’re teetering the line between platonic/non platonic, being very physically affectionate/intimate with each other), or post-breakup fics where they realise they belong together (this surprises absolutely no one i’m sure), or partners who are so devoted to each other they’d literally die for each other (but no one dies because ouchie)
another trope that i’m sure will be of no surprise to you is that i love oikawa being absolutely head over heels for iwaizumi. that warms my heart!
Teenage Fever (desperado sequel) - newest chapter going through editing. Very exciting 👀
A daimika (hq) commission for a very dear friend, about Daishou’s first time 🤯🙈 this is about 60% complete and is very cute! fun fact: this person’s daishou muse from rp is what inspired my daishou in desperado!
A Daiya commission for another dear friend! Involving kemonomimi (animal ears/features.... like cat boys etc)! It’s a pairing/trope I haven’t tackled before so it’s a bit intimidating but also quite fun!!
A Daiya collab with one of my fave fandom writers who is now a very good friend! This is currently one fic/pairing but we have lots of ideas so who knows how many we’ll churn out!!
Some discord prompts from friends. Most are on the back burner right now but one that I’m continuing to work on is a very fun KenHina ABO au with alpha!kenma! He’s so hot n strong 👀
Honestly I have a bunch of other wipes/ideas I started when I was trying to get out of my writing funk, and a load more new ones I’m excited to try working on, but these are the Big Projects I’m currently working on and determined to finish in the next month or so!
If the commissions are fics would you post them on ao3 or will it be just private ?
That would be entirely up to the person to decide! At the end of the day, the fic is for you and if you want to keep it private then that is something I’d respect, though obviously if the fic is something I’ve written and finished then I’d be proud of it and would want to share! Most fic commissions from what I’ve seen are still posted by the author on ao3 .
People are more than free to message me anytime on here, twitter, or email (verwrites[at]gmail[dot]com) to discuss! I’ll never share private contact info with anyone else.
I’ll have to write up a set of guidelines/a standard practice I guess!
