Newsomberg Facts - 7th Anniversary Countdown #18:
During an IG Live for 'Palm Springs' Andy proudly showed off his Children's Fairyland T-shirt, to his friend and co-star, Cristin Milioti, and confirmed that he had spent time there with Little Lady Newsomberg (see Newsomberg Fact #122).
What he didn't explain is how this same T-shirt had made its way into earlier promo, for the movie, when he wore it during the cast's Collider interview, at Sundance.
After 15 years of traveling to both create and promote his work, Andy is something of an expert at packing. It's something he can usually do very quickly and efficiently and, now that his Dad instincts have kicked in, he's generally organized enough to ready himself the night before a flight.
However, in the run up to the festival, perhaps owing to an extended hiatus and the aftermath of a nasty winter cold, he was a little off his game and found himself stuffing items into a bag, last minute and seemingly at random, whilst Kiv waited, impatiently, for him to finish up.
Reasonably content that he had almost everything he needed, and even indulging himself with the inclusion of the infamous blue hoodie that he and Joanna had previously agreed probably had no business leaving the house, Andy was down by only one crucial item - the T-shirt that he had bought for himself when he, Joanna and their daughter had visited Fairyland. He'd intended to bring it along because time away from his little girl still doesn't sit well with him and he figured that having something associated with her be (literally) close to his heart might take the edge off how much he was going to miss her.
He searched everywhere for the shirt but to no avail until, dejected but not wanting to further curtail the time he had left to say goodbye to his family, he reluctantly decided that he'd have to leave without it.
That night, Andy, Kiv and Cristin settled into their Park City getaway a little too enthusiastically and, the following morning, after 3 hours sleep and entirely too much alcohol, a very delicate Andy dragged himself out of bed to go sell his movie. Rifling through the bag that he'd failed to empty the previous evening, he caught sight of something he had somehow missed during his packing frenzy. At the very bottom of the bag was his Fairyland T-Shirt and, wrapped inside it, a beautiful piece of Little Lady Newsomberg's 'artwork' (loosely depicting a Daddy/Daughter hug), captioned in Joanna's ornate handwriting with the words 'Good luck, Papa â€'
Andy put on the shirt, placed the folded up picture in his pocket, and - armed with those beautiful vibes from his family - went on to secure the record for highest sale in Sundance history!
Nice. Andy Samberg's Sundance-debuting comedy 'Palm Springs' has broken the festival's all-time sales record by 69 cents.
(Shout out to @vernonfielding for this one đ)
