I originally wrote this song last year while on tour with Jolaina, my then-girlfriend and now-wife. We had gotten annoyed at each other when trying to find a place to park the van for the night at Lake Shasta. We acknowledged that we were feeling annoyed and not at ease, and then we sat out under the night sky and talked through it. Having gone through childhood without really learning how to openly and honestly express my core emotions to those who are closest and most important in my life, I realized that this relationship was actually allowing me to feel safe enough to make those very attempts, to return to myself, to unlearn. What a thrill to feel so free. When she went to sleep that night, I was a sneaky little sneak and I began writing! Now, sonically, this recorded version is a very different than the one I sang to her on her birthday last year under the yellowing birch tree by the lake (I was so nervous to share these feelings and to be vulnerable!), but the inspiration remains the same. I wanted to capture the grandiosity of the emotions, the wide-open space that she gifts me with her acceptance and sensitivity. She is a remarkable communicator, a talented artist (if you’re still napping on her clay jewelry, then QUIT IT 👉@ofsomethingrad), a wonderfully sensitive human, and a bright light in this world- for all, and for me. Not to mention! she has the most MESMERIZING green eyes. Can't help but fall into 'em. She teaches me a lot, and I'm really just trying to help you see that she passes the vibe check with flying colors. Happy birthday, Jojo, I love you mucho. May the light that you shine be reflected even stronger back to you💚For the rest of the crazy world, Green Eyes is available wherever you listen to music. I hope you all enjoy it and I’d love to hear what you think, but even more than that, I hope that you have someone in your life who comforts you when you feel terrified. Special thanks to Ruben for assisting on the recording for this song B.C. (Before Corona). Ok, over ’n’ out, we have some bday celebrating to do!
