favourite books of 2025
books depicted: we do not part (han kang), no straitght road takes you there (rebecca solnit), the years (annie ernaux), things i don’t want to know & the cost of living (deborah levy)
Hi!:) I saw you mentioned Deborah Levy in your posts. I read only August Blue, wonder if you read it as well - just curious about your impressions. Or what are your impressions of her other books?
Hi! Unfortunately, I haven’t read any of her fiction yet, although Hot Milk and August Blue are definitely on my TBR list.
I am currently halfway through her Living Autobiography, and I only have the last book, Real Estate, left to read.
My opinion is still incomplete, given that I haven’t read enough of her work, but so far I adore how she blends the personal and the political, and how she dissects gender roles, motherhood, and their effects on women writers.
As for her writing style, I think it’s straightforward and fragmentary, which, to me, makes her voice feel honest and testimonial. I’d be glad to hear your opinion on this writer too!

“any ode to beauty is empty if one isn’t committed to protecting it and the people who tend to it; the artists, the aesthetes, or those who don’t consider themselves either, but appreciate an art form”.
