Many many things here but why is the Kazakh judge glazing the Russian skater instead of their Kazakh skater
Genuine question - why do people not hate on (for example) Sofia as much vs other Russian athletes? Sofia represented Russia up until 2023.
Not saying she deserves hate obv! Just trying to educate myself a bit more since I don’t know enough about women’s singles skating
From what I know, Sofia underwent a huge growth spurt in 2022-23 season. Of you watch her performances from 2021 JGP she looks like a whole different person compared to now. As a result her quads jumps and 3A became more and more unstable and she felt sidelined by her coach as you always have new up and coming little girls in Russia waiting to take your place. She was advised to just retire if she couldn't lose weight and perform as she used to. Sofia didn't want to be done with skating so she started looking into other options. She received offers from German and Israeli skating federations but declined both because her mother is Kazakh and she started the process to obtain Kazakh passport. This was not well-received by Rusfed who initially declined to let her go. Her coach at the time kicked her out because she perceived Sofia as a traitor. On the other hand, Evgeny Plushenko had been quite invested in finding his skaters opportunity to compete internationally aka advocating for those who can to change citizenships so she started part-time training with him and part-time in Kazalhstan under their national team's coach. Rusfed let her go in May 2024 after which Tatiana Tarasova commented that it meant they just didn't find her worthy or useful. Russian media, lead by Tarasova continued to mock her as she made her transition. She would later part ways with Plushenko after some injuries at the initiative of Kazakh fed. Her internship with Raf turned out to be a really good thing and she enjoys skating there now.
Sofia has commented she was worried about the international audience's reaction to her competing, especially because she is still branded as a traitor in Russia. However, that girl escaped the teen star factory, looks healthy and skates healthily, working on improving and having fun. She seems very proud to represent Kazakhstan and genuienly seems to be thrilled to have another chance because in Russia she'd be done by now. She went looking for better oportunity for herself, found it, and has found new love and joy for skating now.
Also, fun fact, her sister is on Kazakhstan's national fencing team!

i wanted to say welcome back mens figure skating but this is crazy even to them
SMALL FED SKATER GOLD YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH THIS MEANS TO ME EVEN IF THE PROGRAM IS BAD AND HIS PCS ARE NOTHING
By complete coincidence I was watching the film "10 Dance" yesterday - one of the leads says at some point that there's no point going to international Latin/ ballroom dance competitions because the judges won't allow Asians to take first place anyway. God, how bitterly this resonates today when I look at judging in figure skating

My favouritest sport fact ever is that in 1990s 2 cardiac surgeons watched an f1 race to save the lives of countless kids. The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) kept losing the lives of patients after successful heart surgeries. Specifically the 10-15 minutes after a bonefide clinically successful surgery patients would die:
And so the two surgeons filmed a handover after heart surgery and sent it to the Ferrari pitcrew who were told to critique and improve handover process
And from this:
we got this:
The error rate during patien handovers dropped from 30% to 10% with the F1 informed protocol.
I literally love this fact so much because being an pitcrew member is such a thankless job because theyre underpaid and overworked mechanics and they literally saved lives in this instance.
