‘O Lord,’ said the disciples, ‘what will be the sign of your coming?
‘I will tell you,’
[a] There will be an increase in errors and false teachers: Many will say, ‘Look, here is Christ,’ and ‘Look, there is Christ.’
[b] There will be falling away from holiness: ‘Lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.
[c] There will be great distress among the nations: ‘Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.’
[d] There will be great persecution: ‘Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake.’
[e] There will be great tokens of God’s wrath from heaven: ‘Signs in the heavens, the sun, moon and stars.’
The Lord Christ wished to inform believers of how they should look for his coming; he told them of all the dangers.
