One of the funniest consequences of Essek running out on the Dynasty immidatly after his and Caleb's Aeor wizard date, is that to the vast majority of the Dynasty people, Essek's scandal wouldn't be stealing the beacons (mainly because I believe they would keep that shit under wraps). But instead he would be known as the former Shadowhand, the prodigal son to the Umavi of den Thelyss, who ran away with his Empire human lover never to be seen again. And I'm not saying there are definitely books in the Dynasty based off of him years later, but I'm not not saying there arnt.

Honestly, if I were the Bright Queen I might encourage this interpretation. "My Shadowhand abandoned his post to run off with his Empire human lover" rumors would be embarrassing, but not nearly as damaging as "my Shadowhand committed the worst betrayal of our religion possible right under our noses and now we can't even find the bastard" would be.
