there’s a lingering of schoolbell’s past ringing in her ears, ringing as the tale of beacon’s fall is told by word of mouth ‘round the kingdoms through those that have survived: their names, their semblances, their headstones, all written on the walls with the blood that was shed. there’s a lingering of childish desire’s past swirling in her field of vision & it’s blinding, as they stand in spot where it all began, asphalt beneath their feet, the remnants of the dust spilled into the cracks just months before upon their meeting, a memory made and never broken, lost in time but never forgotten.

                       they’d won the battle, but the war had just begun.

the bell had almost rung.  they'd spent enough time doting over their weapons, cleaning and repairing them in preparation for the vytal festival they’d all been training for. she couldn’t blame ruby for spending a little extra time on her weapon, it was one of the more impressive ones, but they were going to be late, and lateness was not taken lightly in glynda’s class.
